yesterday i changed my CFL bulb to E27 LED Scene Switch (9.5w) from Philips. damn... so bright... but had to use adapter cause the previous light was the plug type (g something.

the bulbs come out of the ceiling a bit so not that attractive. but man... nice to have LED. no more wait few moments for the brightness to kick in and also no more flicker~ biggrin.gif maybe later i will change the housing when im rajin enough.

Interesting...wondering how long can it last...what is the cost of the bulb? Have not decided whether to use an e27 or to use recessed type. e27 will be easier to change and also the technology will be there for a long long time. Recessed type pattern keep on changing and you will need to buy some spares to keep or else 2 or 3 yrs down the road, you cant get the same look again.

in the old days, recess light is just a recess housing for bulbs

but nowadays hard to find good quality housing as all OEM has moved on to built in downlight

But problem with all these built in downlight, the pattern keep on changing. I have encountered that before....after two years and you try to get the same and you cant find it anymore. So housing with e27 will last you a lifetime. Just need to change the bulb when it went dead.

i ordered from philips china during 11.11 actually. so was around RM19-20 only. and just bought it along iwth other crap. but i seen a shop in Ikano/curve bridge selling it for RM27 i think. and lelong got it too but i never bought anything off lelong so yeah... i dunno. heres the link. RM25.

i will say the brightness for the warm white is nice. for me its perfect. but for the white my wife likes it (dunno why. i feel like im in my office). im using 6 in my living room and at 9.5W its much brighter than my previous 13W energy saver.

Hi,

Wondering a few things on LED downlights...

1) Is there an alternative to the standard spring-design (whereby any dismantling from ceiling will likely damage the plaster due to having to snap both sides off which are held tight by the spring)

2) What brand should I look out for and where can I buy them cheap? Coz I'm buying many... for an entire house from scratch...

3) Are these really better than your standard screw-in bulb casing types? To me, this old design is the best... any problem, just buy a new bulb and screw in (vs LED, gotta take the whole thing out)

Just overall a bit new to this world of LED lighting... visited Puchong and most shops seem to have stopped stocking up on old casings but are more focused on LED lighting instead...

Any advice (general / specific) with regards to fitting an entire house with LED downlights would be much appreciated... !
EDIT: there is one particular Taiwan? brand I saw -- Feel-Lite, or something like that which comes with a permanent outer ring casing and an inner LED, which can be removed without damaging the plaster ceiling and is much easier to remove or assemble too.

Guess everyone face the same situation like you.

1. You can use the eyeball 2inch eyeball spot light type that is using the gu10/mr16 connection. There's a spring at the face of the casing easier to change the bulb. Otherwise most of the recessed type use a spring. There's another from Ledeon where you can feel open the inner flat LED with a flat screw driver to change the LED panel. The outer ring is spring clip to the plaster as well. Only concern is quality of the light...about 10% cant last longer than 2 years....ie 20 units 2 will spoil within a year. But still easier to change. But am not sure if this design will stay long in the market. You may want to buy spares for it. Another way is to use track lights. Lately looks like a trend.

2. Am contemplating to use Philip and but yet to know how long can it last. Philip want is using the recessed with spring clip.

3. Agreed...this is another method. But the lighting is not as nice as the flat recessed type.

4. Guess the Taiwan brand you see is the same concept as the Ledeon type as I mentioned. Still will the design last....you may need to buy spares.
