Is it possible to install surface mounted downlight on a (metal) pipe instead of literally installing on the ceiling as I intend to have it "hanging" from the ceiling?

QUOTE(ChipZ @ Jan 7 2017, 07:02 PM) I need some help here. I was thinking whether or not to get plaster ceiling for my new condo of 1300 sqft. The cost of plain board for full house including LEDs and LED board is RM6.3k which I think is quite costly. Can someone tell me the pros and cons of plaster ceiling and what options of lights do I have if I do not do? Having similar problem as you. Instead of plaster ceiling, I am going for surface mounted downlights. |

I am planning to install track lights in the living room and bedroom but I am slightly concern with the lifespan of it compare to the normal E27 downlights.
Any feedback on this? |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Jan 26 2017, 10:26 AM) lifespan depends on the bulb that you buy some track lights, the fixture and the bulb is fixed much like downlights (meaning LED bulb, transformer, etc all in one unit). some you can choose and buy your own LED bulbs I chose the latter and I bought Philips MR16 LED - so far 1.5 years no issues. if you get better quality track light fixtures, the build in transformer is also better transformer = drivers QUOTE(ozak @ Jan 26 2017, 10:43 AM) Get the wan without transformer and the bulb recommend by idoblu. Without transformer for easy replacement with wider choice. Since it run on 240v. If that transformer is to convert AC to DC, might be spoil in future. Probably have hard time to find. With the direct bulb, replacement is much more easy. ![]() Is this the type you meant whereby the fixture and the LED bulb can be changed whenever one is faulty? QUOTE(enriquelee @ Jan 26 2017, 10:43 AM) Buy those LED type will last you long. The reason why I would want to place above the TV console to avoid glare / reflections on the TV set... if you know what I mean.Above TV? Cause you plan to light up some deco on top of your TV? In the toilet if you want to make it as main source, just make sure you do not buy those "concentrate" lighting type. I would be getting recessed lights since it has plaster ceiling in it. As for the bedroom, I hope to avoid direct light onto the bed and hence, the track light is to pin point other areas to light up the bedroom. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Jan 26 2017, 12:29 PM) they all look the same so its really hard to tell. you got to ask the shop. Thanks for the samples. The bulbs is the key = if can change the bulbs then it will either use MR16 (aka GU5.3) or GU10 Some proprietary ones cannot change and they got their own looks Example - MR16 aka GU5.3 - this uses 12V and needs a driver » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « GU10 - this uses 240V and dont need driver » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Examples of Tracklights that cannot change bulbs yourself - » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « doesnt matter which type - just get better quality ones lor Will definitely go for those which can change the bulbs. |
