finally, a large scale battle.

one of the things i thought the 1st series lacked was the battles depicted in the book, especially the one where they captured jamie lannister and also lifting the siege at riverrun...

i'm almost done with book 2: clash of kings. i wanted to buy the 3rd book, but sorta confused. there seems to be 2 different versions.

one book is a storm of swords.

then there are another two books called a storm of swords: book 1 and book 2.

anybody know what's the difference? the font size is more or less the same, and page numbers for the storm of swords book is more or less the same with either one of the 2nd set. so it's not a reprint. but since the 2nd set is almost twice thicker (combined), does that mean more chapters not previously printed on the other book?

Just buy Storm of Swords if you find it.
UK and Australia publishers split the massive book of Storm of Sword into 2 books.

is there any difference in terms of content?

LOL, he sank with Alcatraz prison.
3rd book is full of twists and surprises, therefore, many consider it as the best among the series.
But still I think the 4th and the 5th are actually not bad. Not as bad as many people think.
Hope you enjoy them as well.

yup, agree totally on the 3rd book. the last page (of the story) left my chest pounding so hard, i went straight to MPH and bought the 4th book.

QUOTE(greyshadow @ May 7 2012, 12:20 AM)
still reading book one tongue.gif

still wondering who's the real parent of Jon Snow...
with the death of Ned, i guess it only left Ser Howland Reed, the sole survivor who knows what happened in the Tower of Joy when they tried to rescue Lyanna
I guess it's already hinted that Jon could be the child of Lyanna and Rhaegar, Lyanna could have died from child birth.

if Jon is the son from Lyanna and Rhaegar, that explains why Ned was so secretive about Jon's true identity, and why he send him to the wall to join the black.
because he'll be definitely dead the instant Robert knew Rhaegar has an heir.
with Jon joining the Black, hence forfeiting any claims to the throne, and keeping him safe.
*
jon's father is obviously ned stark. but the identity of his mother will be revealed (to the readers) in book three.

Since that whole scene (stealing of the dragons) DID NOT happen in the books, even us that have read the books are in suspense now lol!  tongue.gif Nice of the TV producers to keep everyone on the same level.

saw halfway of season 1 epi 1... like quite boring only... is the action going to get better?
*
action? probably not. the show isnt much about action, but rather drama interlaced with action, intrigue, sex, espionage, mysticism, magic, dragons and... more sex.

lol ok.. I just felt so many characters.. didn't pay attention to their lines as well and in the end didn't feel absorbed in the story.... will restart lol... I like sorcery and.mysticism anyway..

1st episode is a bit cramped as they probably tried to convince the sponsors/fan that this is true to the book. it gets a bit easier later on, before becoming absolutely confusing. then they start killing each other, and suddenly the storyline becomes easier to follow tongue.gif.

so if comparing to book 2, is this halfway already?
*
some events have been rearranged. the book chapters dont always follow proper timeline/timeflow. but on TV, they seem to rearrange some of the events, took out a few, added some others and so on. so in a gist, yeah, it's more or less halfway.

i particularly like how they stretched the whole arya-tywin scenes together, and added tension with littlefinger's presence.

QUOTE(xy2610 @ May 8 2012, 03:37 PM)
Just finished ep 6.

I like the ending. They make changes to Danaerys story to make it more interesting. Seriously, the only interesting part of Danaerys story in Book 2 is just the House of Undying and maybe the appearance of White Beard.

Woohoo, the casting of Ramsay Snow is a must now that Lord Bolton mentioned his bustard. Can't wait.

The chemistry between Jon and Ygritte is spot on. Ygritte is very cute I must say.

I can't wait to find out if 'Talisha' is really 'Talisha'.

I think Littlefinger recognize Arya. How come littlefinger is everywhere. I kinda wonder where is Varys.

The riot is intense too. Hope to see someone making a Joffrey slapping gif.  laugh.gif

It's getting closer to the battle.
Some part of the story is more than halfway, IMO. Like Bran's is toward the ends since it is without the Reeds siblings.

if the reeds wont be making an appearance, i wonder who's rickon gonna go with.

i just love the detailed references to the real-world afflictions, but didnt try to elaborate too far. martin just kept it within the perspective of people in his world.

for example, in S02E06, tywin mentioned jaime had trouble learning how to read. his maester said 'he gets the words backwards'. that's dyslexia. pretty common learning disability, but people always mistook it as stupid. but jaime never had a problem learning the sword.

another example, in the 4th book, myrcella is said to have the 'red spots'. the book explained that red spots are an affliction that wont kill anyone below 10years old, but would be fatal to adults. now that's chicken pox for u.

and there's always the fine details of food/dishes that they eat...

i agree that ygritte played by rose leslie is too pretty looking for a wildling.
*
i believe the book have differentiated wildlings from barbarians. people north of the neck call themselves northmen, but to the wildlings, anything south of the wall are southerners. to the northmen, wildlings are wild people - uncivilized and barbaric. but in fact, they're actually freefolks, which includes people of all origins who prefer to govern themselves.

which should explain the possible origin of ygritte's good look.

about the boys, you think you're surprised?
wait for the next few episodes, you'll get more surprise tongue.gif

anyway... no surprise or shock at the ending scene, haven't read the book until that part, but still spoilt by reading the wikis long time ago doh.gif

anyway... not much of memorable scenes in this episode, in fact... a lot of idle conversations... doh.gif
maybe just to prepare for the ending climax

Also I'm in the first few chapters of Book2, seems like they've change quiet a few details in the TV series unlike Season1, which is pretty faithful to the book
are the producer & GRRM going towards a different direction for the TV series?
an original story like The Walking Dead perhaps? hmm.gif
*
from what i understand, they dont want it to be 100% like the book. they've written in additional characters, while writing out others. this seeks to streamline the story without removing key plots. of course, some details have changed, which i believe adds more depth without compromising the integrity of the story.

i personally like the northern whore character (cant remember her name though). she wasnt in the books at all, but somehow u can see her progress from the very first episode in winterfell, till she ended up in joffrey's bed in king's landing.

I was actually surprised that Varys (Master of Whispers) didn't divulge Tyrion true love to Cersei. I wonder why he didn't tell her, it could have destroyed Tyrion. Maybe the Master of Whispers wants Joffrey dead too?

this one, the queen didnt use varys. she used her own whisperers to find tyrion's woman. but they found the wrong one.
