Can you take a shot of something with lots of details at f11.. the zoom's supposed to be the sharpest at that aperture.

wwhoah.. iso5000? must be anti-shake mode? tongue.gif

do you notice when in mode, the subject is abit blur? (not as sharp).

and, whats really the difference between handheld twilight & anti-shake mode? It seems to be same for me.

haa yup that one i try to use anti-shake mode. the subject a bit blur i think because it took 6 diff images.

regarding the twilight, never used that so dunno what the different huhuh. this is some info on it -->

QUOTE
The key difference between the modes is what kind of movement you're trying to minimize: camera shake or subject movement. Hand-held Twilight mode is designed for taking photos of static scenes and the image processing concentrates on canceling out noise. Anti Motion Blur mode tends to use higher ISOs to keep a high shutter speed high in an attempt to minimize subject movement, and its processing will try to select elements from the frame with the least subject blur if the principal subject has moved too much during the exposures. Hand-held Twilight also chooses darker exposures (often over 2EV below the normal metered value), whereas Anti Motion Blur tries to produce an image of the same brightness as normal metering.

QUOTE
The results we got from Anti Motion Blur weren't brilliant - our hand-held shot in manual shooting mode shows less shake than the Anti Motion Blur version. It also didn't do terribly well at identifying movement in the scene (on one attempt we got semi-transparent half-closed eyelids, which was too unflattering to publish), or reducing motion blur. You might be better off just taking six attempts at shooting the shot - one of them may be sharper than the results the camera will produce.

so the best is use manual mode

nahhh it's ok, not scratchin the lens but at the bottom of the body, coz it hit a rock when i try to sit down.

to protect the lens, you can use any 49mm UV filter or clear filter. i use that to protect the lense from dust and scratches while taking pictures.

sorry for being newb here... what is auto hdr? specifically what is hdr?
*
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range (if im not mistaken). the camera takes 3 shots with different exposure (brightness?) values and combine it to create a single photo. So that the picture will be high in dynamic range (shadow is not deepblack, highlight is not blownout). Auto HDR is, the camera determine itself what exposure value should be chosen and automatically combine the 3 shots taken.

something like that. laugh.gif

maybe some sifus can explain further

Some shoot in Bali, i really should practice more b4 i go doh.gif

Cons i found in Nex :

1. battery totally not sufficient for 1 day usage
2. misfocus occurs in some shoots, and most importantly its unnoticeable by nex's LCD

haha.. A55 focus more on AF Video recording and forumer said he dun want FullHD video dy..

Anyways, I think it's a different competition.. The reason why we wanna get NEX is becoz of the compact size, getting A33/A55 destroys the whole purpose

i've read reviews n one of the problems was the lag during startup and delay trying to take second photo immediately after the 1st
battery life was a problem too hmm.gif

Once u uprev the firmware version from 1 into rev2, Start up time a quit FAST compare to rev1.
Well, Battery life also improved after uprev the firmware.
I just upgraded from Firmware rev1 into rev2. no concern on the startup speed !

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-downl...d=5897&mdl=NEX5

This utility updates the NEX-5/3 Camera Firmware to version 2 and provides the following benefits:

* Adds 3D Sweep Panorama function.
* Improvements to the Sweep Panorama function.
* Resolves an issue where the battery may be drained even if the camera is turned off.
* Reduces start-up time under low light conditions.

Manual Mode focus, well...what u wan to know? Manual focus we can choose what to focus. by just turning the focus ring at the lens.
*
hmm..well, i was talking about the PASM mode
like how often does one changes the ISO, apeture, shutter speed via the soft menu when it was way more easier on conventional DSLR with more buttons/switches on the body itself?

It is easier with a conventional DSLR but you will get used to to the UI after awhile.

hmm...i guess i'm getting poisoned not only by the pictures, but users' opinions too whistling.gif
should i get it from SonyStyle or just get it from either camera shop or forummer with shop since they come with 8GB memory card and bag at much lower price (2400 for nex-5 with 18-55mm lens)

I am not that pro at the end of the day to say it's better.

My requirements for a camera are simple; extremely portable, sexy and able to take photos which quality are above the point and shoot cameras.

So, the NEX fits the bill. biggrin.gif

Switcheasy Ribcage taken in low light condition, pure awesomeness. biggrin.gif

Ur pics are all so awesome, and none of them are edited right?

I was playing with JPEG all the time yesterday, is RAW a lot better in terms of quality? I see there's another option between JPEG/RAW as well, how is that different from others ar?

I attended one of the session once. It was supposed to be an intermediate class but somehow when I showed up, it became a beginner class.
As for the beginner class, it was about some of the basic rules of photography (eg. rule of the 3rd), not NEX related.
Then the focus was shifted to basic post processing with the PMB software that comes with the NEX (eg. adjusting the brightness, contrast, colour), also not NEX related.
And finally ends with photo publishing with picasa or the likes (I can't remember), still not NEX related.

So if you want to learn about your NEX, forget about the beginner class, it's pointless.
If you are absolutely new to photography, it's a helpful session (with lots of SONY plugs).

Damn hope they release a good and nice casing soon.. This is such a popular camera but there's not nice casing for it yet.. The Sony alpha bags are just too big.. Eliminates the purpose of portability... The Sony casing doesn't seem very protective also and can't put the other lens..

for 2k, I better buy A-mount adapter (RM500++), because the new adapter firmware release will support AF for A-mount lenses.

Here's a detailed list of the changes in this firmware update:

    *

Adds a user-selectable option to drop you back into whatever menu item you had last selected, vs. always taking you to the top of the menu system when you hit the Menu button. (A huge improvement in usability; one that frequently had us gnashing our teeth as we fiddled with the cameras many options while testing the prototypes.)
    *

Adds a user-selectable option to make the NEX menus wrap so scrolling off the bottom will take you back to the top entry again. (Not quite as important as the first change above, but this still removes an enormous annoyance.)

    *

Adds customizable buttons: A gigantic improvement for experienced users. The center button and lower-left button on the camera's back (see illustration above) can now have a wide range of camera functions assigned to them. Sony reps at the press event didn't have an exact number for how many functions could be assigned, but said it was "a whole passel" -- potentially 20 or more. Configurable options include things like white balance, ISO, exposure mode, etc. The center button can have up to three functions assigned to it simultaneously, which can be selected by pressing multiple times or pressing and scrolling with the rear control dial. The lower left button supports just one function at once. Bottom line, you'll be able to have up to four camera functions close at hand, rather than having to delve into the menu system.
    *

Aperture control in Movie mode: Probably the biggest single request from video shooters, the new firmware will let you control the aperture used during video shooting in two different ways. In Auto mode, whatever amount of "background defocus" you select in still-image mode will apply to video recording as well. Likewise, if you've selected Aperture Priority mode for still shooting, the same aperture setting will apply when you switch to movie recording.
    *

Support for A-mount Sony lenses with internal motors. Initially, the NEX cameras only supported the older A-mount lenses in manual focusing mode. The update will support autofocus operation with A-mount lenses that have internal focus motors. (We didn't take time to do a full count, but we think that's a total of about 12 lens models.) NOTE, though, that you actually have to upgrade the firmware in the lens adapter, as well as in the camera itself. (We were surprised to learn that the A-mount to E-mount adapter actually has a chip in it, to translate data between the lens and the camera body. As part of the update process, then, you'll need to attach your Sony A-mount adapter to the camera, so the camera can update the adapter's firmware.)

Tried few times, and ya it is around that time, but never get even close to that color... Most of the times looks dull, very light yellow which nearly can say is white color....

Any settings recommended??? cry.gif

Recently visited Sekinchan. Besides the Paddy fields and the seaside, this rustic place as really yummy offerings.

This one was difficult, as there was a strong green color cast which had to be corrected.

#9user posted image
Originally in color, I felt it would be more endearing in Black n White. (Desaturate in GIMP)

* Collins, these are pictures of you. Please let me know if you would like them removed for any reasons at all, and I'll comply with your wishes. Thanks. *

Focus object, slow shutter (example 1/20 sec) and then pan (move your hand follow the vehicle movement) slowly (speed base on vehicle move).

just to ask, which type of lens is suitable for macro shot? 50mm? 30mm?
I'm using 5R with 16-50mm, when i put the camera too close to the subject, the focus not able to work

ychwang Hi there, u may refer to NEX thread.. probably some bro can brief u there..

from my experience, the 1650pz is not an ideal lens for macro.. u can try stand behind a bit and zoom in... hence, u might loss DOF when u zoom in...

30mm macro is great for its price... however, the AF speed is a lil but sluggish and it is not an ideal length to macro bugs or something is moving... (ants still can la, bugs which able to fly might shock u away...)

50mm E-mount is sharp but try to avoid for macro... very hard to focus when u move your camera close up to the object... it is the lense construction that caused it...
