talking about the tammy 1750 f2.8, the unability to focus in low light condition has been overrated.
i am a happy owner of this lens for a year now. i got it when i joined my friend for a shooting themed "drug addicts". as you can imagine, shooting a "drug addict" in an abandoned house in pekeliling with limited light source, our light source was only from the candle. it had no focus hunting at all.
i am very satisfied to say that this lens, with it's price, worth every cent that you spent. during the shooting, the rest of my gang were using 18-105, the result was my tammy, without focus hunting problem + wide aperture @ 2.8, won hands down!!
i know it's unfair to compare 18-105 with this tammy 17-50 because they are totally different class - not apple to apple comparison, but with it's price of slightly more (18-105 RM800 vs 17-50 RM1000), i have never regret getting this lens
another point i'd like highlight is, the "slow" focus speed is also being overrated. the "slower" different is only in split seconds, less than 1 second, not that it's slower by few seconds. Even it's noticeably slower, but for me it's bearable. because i am not a sport photographer or wedding photographer where i need to capture the important moment all the times.
dont be afraid to try out the any lens, because you wont lose much by buying a 2nd hand lens (you can find them in lyn garage sales), then selling it after a while. very likely that you will only lose rm50, or rm100, or even wont lose a single cent if you take good care of the lens.
happy shooting
problm is, the perfect or good copy of Tammy 17-50 is like less than 50% of its production linei am a happy owner of this lens for a year now. i got it when i joined my friend for a shooting themed "drug addicts". as you can imagine, shooting a "drug addict" in an abandoned house in pekeliling with limited light source, our light source was only from the candle. it had no focus hunting at all.
