QUOTE(Hansel @ Nov 3 2010, 09:11 AM)
Guys, been reading these threads on US trading with interest, very informative, thank you.

Was thinking, since the withholding tax on dividend payout is so high for US counters, has anybody here considered Canadian stocks where the withholding tax is lower, and the counters are not so volatile ?

Secondly, if we hold the Canadian Dollar, it is certainly very much stronger and not as volatile as the USD, being a Commodity Currency.

Mod, if these ideas need to be put into a new thread, please alert.

Would appreciate the opinions of the folks here with regards to Canadian Stocks and the TSX.
*
what is the use if there is no votality?

i dun understand the reason why u all are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo scared of tax on dividend. No, its not high. Don't be a cry baby over a fixed business process. Its part and parcel of life. get over it.

http://www.wwwebtax.com/income/dividends.htm

Take LVS for example : u buy at say $45/- in few days it will reach $47. Buy 300 units ($13,500) - on margin possibly then sell it off at $47, u already earned about $580. Why wanna keep until it rot and only earned dividened?

Suggestions :
- if you wanna trade US stocks and only seek for DIV, then I suggest u stick back to KLSE, buy Genting or buy YTL Power. That is sufficient for "low" risk trading.

Dan, thank you. Sure, for trading, nothing like a high beta market, for eg the NYSE. But then, not even the NYSE can beat the RWS too, money on the spot, haha. Thank you, appreciated your opinions.
*
boss - wow, money on the spot? Care to explain a bit in details? thumbup.gif

RWS = Resort World Sentosa.

NYSE is the largest casino in the world. We're all here putting our money on probabilities.
*
ahhhh.. like tat one huh. Thanks
NYSE still d baddest and bestest (??) .

RWS is not worth a visit, I will rather buy SIRI and feel safer than putting a chip on the baccarat table.

spot on man.

So what stocks are on your mind in NYSE? BRK.B is a good choice if you are looking into DIV+ solid stock.

The results are mixed, means they want Obama's team cut down expenses, concentrate to boost domestic business. Big taikor companies which is lobbying for more relax tax reform and other sorts of "assistance" in order for them to grow and generate employment. That the chain re-actions.

p/s : STEC is up and uppppppp and awayyyyyyyy. Target $18/- in few days before the "big" news comes in

Slow growth eh? Google and Apple stocks are in for the long run. There are loads of good dividend stocks out there better than BRK.B that pays up to 10-14% p.a. ie CIM, Annaly.
*
Yes baby. Plus Amazon, Baidu. But if you are seeking into slow and steady and less riskier, BRK.B is like Mini DOW Jones

reating jobs and cutting spending. "That's what they expect," the 10-term Republican said.

And yet Malaysia still don't listen. They SPEND SPEND SPEND, without any concern of country goes bust and becomes next Iceland. WTF. Building mega towers which is useless. Also stupid idea of building more highways (equal to tolls, corruptions, money for cronies).

If that is a reality, time to buy physical GOLD.

No, not futures but take a look the equities exposed to those commodities play.

Right now, everything is surging up because of the Fed money printing. They're going to print 'em for the next 5-6 months.
Crazy huh?

Be very careful here. This market is very vicious and they can pull back anytime.
*
fcking crazy right now in the commodities market. Everything is historic high or near historic high. This only spell one thing - WAR.
GOLD up nearing 1388 again.

yeah, everyday 52 weeks high. Everyday I just look at LVS, scared to enter. 25$ scared, 30$ scared, even with last week announcement that she is making profit, oso scared to enter at $44.
Today $54. Huh?

Its far too high for me. Moving back to others like AMD, MU, EK. Penny stocks below $10 is mainly my market.

Managed to get rid of another sissy stock. Fundamentally strong, good balance sheet but market do not pity them. Recovered only, no profit. Saving bullet for better stocks.
Code KLIC (sounds a bit like KLCC)

In SGX and US Mkts (NYSE & Nasdaq).

Dependable Analysts in SGX : choose from here : http://www.remisiers.org/index.php?option=...&id=6&Itemid=16

Analysts in US Mkts : many of them, can easily come across their write-ups everywhere as we surf around, or as we go into the discount brokerages' sites.

Trading Momentum - don't need analysts, just pull-up Google Finance or Yahoo Finance for the country being observed, put in the stock code you are interested in, look at their charts and observe the vertical barcharts at the bottom of the graph. That's the trading momentum that I use.
*
Err, can you show me on say STEC or SIRI?

I just got my stock on C @ $4.15 and BAC @ $11.35 on Wed. Hope to keep it for few years and see the return. I'm not the speculator but more on investor point of view.
*
I got it when it was 3.88 3 weeks back. dumped all via Trailing STOP. BAC just jumped in. Let's see how that turned out to be.

DMC - I told u to hold to your STEC for $18!!. I sold off all via Trailing STOP (very tight stop) and now happy, coz that one was the first batch bought early this year @ 17+

The bullish momentum for stocks still kinda high.

Will be selling my remaining TCK if we hit $50.  biggrin.gif

Trivial for you guys: Who is the biggest Shark in the world?
*
HL also strong, due to crazy commodities pricing. Gold down a bit to 1388.

Biggest shark = US Federal Reserve, most powerful guy : Uncle Ben
Main Shark supporter : GoldMan S

Right On Bro!  rclxms.gif

Uncle Ben IS the world biggest Shark. With a stroke a pen, he wrote the $600b cheque and direct
Fed to printing money.  World market equities have no choice but to go up.

But, be careful with him. Watch his cards carefully. He can pull money out as fast he can push money out.  nod.gif
*
Indeed he is. The first thing what Goldman did right after the announcement is to agree with him. Fcuk, look at GS Price. I bought at 155, cut loss at 145. Then it bounced to 170 now, up 15 since end of October. I failed to link GS to Uncle Ben..Duh!

C losing steam. BAC is performing better. Bought BAC 500 units only, although I do have cash for upcoming, which is preserved for volatile days as follows :

Unemployment Claims on WED 930pm KL Time
Prelim UoM Consumer Sentiment FRI 1055 KL Time

Nasdaq 2580.05 +1.07 +0.04%
S&P500 1223.25 -2.6 -0.28%

I've sold my remaining 300 shrs of TCK @ 50.25.  Biggest profits for me this year.  biggrin.gif
TCK may continue go higher with the QE2 but I'm happy that it has met my price target, so I'm taking my profits.
From here, I'll scalp and trade by hit and run. I don't like buying into 52 weeks high.

congrats on TCK. U hit the right button on commodities.

SLW, ABX, URRE.

The star of the month is : HL 9.02 +13.5%, all time high.

MGM +7%
BAC +1.92%

yes, rulez like what we used to learn is not longer suits current market, only when economy is good and booming, market is really good. I happened to bumped into an archive posting of an American forum, where they love RIMM, bought 5,000 shares and trade it contra daily and actually earning big bucks.
That is when it is end of 2006. Buy any counter, close your eyes and boom, magic. Just like the recent LVS fairy tale.

LPH was recommended by myself but I failed to buy it, instead bought S. Oh well, that turned out to be an ugly truth.
