Waste of money.

Why foaming is not done by manufacturer? Because steel is stronger than foam.

but, if you want to spend it, go ahead. Foaming is snake oil, like adding oil additives (if you use branded oil and your car has no inherent issues).

I think the foam works, just whether you will like the setup or new feel or not.
If you regret it, can't undo the foam

Foam in crevices only works as sound dampener. It does not assist in structure integrity. You can do a simple test.

Fill a pipe either steel or plastic. Knock the pipe before you foam it up. You can hear the hollow sound.

Foam it up wait to cure. Then knock the pipe again. It sounds rigid & solid.

Try to break the pipe, hammer, hydraulics, etc. They break the same way.

It is perceived structural strength.

I think it does help in reducing flexing (aka stiffness) not structural strength.

Been reading this thread for awhile already. Been on the fence whether to do it or not. Currently on bmw f30 328i M sport with m adaptive suspension on m3 underbrace and ur strut bar.

So, my ride was pretty stiff. And i really do enjoy the firm and stiff ride, and looking for ways to further improve it while keeping the comfort unchanged as much as possible. That planted firm feeling when you take corners at high speed really is addicting. But daily driving it is a different story, given how bad our roads are in the city 😪. Reading how AF does help in reducing some noise and improve the chassis without weight penalty   sounds really great. As you know, sound deadening materials are heavy. While searching for more info regarding chassis foamin, i came across this post in a bimmer forum.

I might drop by Desmond shop one of these days to hear what he would say. I kinda believe it works because bobby also sent his s4 there for chassis foaming hahah

If you want stiffer ride, can opt to change to PU bushings on the whole car.

Whatever joints by default uses rubber to absorb vibrations. Changing it will make handling sharper (especially PU bush on lower arm) but also transfer all imperfections of the road to the car.

Recently changed my brother's nissan XGear crossmember bush to PU. The whole car is very firm at the moment. But when going pass uneven road will make drivers feel dizzy cuz the car oscillates quite a lot. (Cuz it's near to SUV height)

I think your car is stiff enough d since it's M sport.
If you wanna enhance its change your lower arm bush to PU for sharper steering feedback.

Local shops and their workers has nowhere near the expertise described in the article you quoted.

And don't believe everything Bobby says.

I think different car after foaming will get different results.
Some cars are with multi-link suspension, some with torsion beam.
Some cars are made with sporty setup some are just family car setup.
Some car uses 'harder' steel some are not.

So how can the results be the same ?? Or satisfactory to all ??

But one thing is for sure, if they car has too much of too much body roll then definitely need it

the only thing i felt is reduced noise each time the a/c compressor kicks, that's all, in terms of vibration, it should be reduced through use of mountings and bushings, this foam not going to reduce those noises, and yes, i spent rm800 in my alza for this
*
did you felt less body roll when turning ??

Actually you can get almost Rolls levels of sound dampening even on a Kancil. But that would mean welding more metal and installing foam sheets that would make the car heavy as hell. Top end cars are not heavy because of the big capacity engine or those thick and deep seats alone. The amount of sound dampening are insane in those cars. And none of it involve injecting stuff between metal crevices. Expensive tires help too.  laugh.gif

yep, lots of people dont understand how complicated NVH really is.

NVH includes, tire noise, road noise, wind noise, engine noise, gearbox noise, engine + Gearbox + transmission combined vibrations that sort, aerodynamics of car, AC compressor kick in vibration.

not only sound dampening on sheet metal, windscreen glass got to be thick, rubber seals on doors, rubber dampening must be tuned to car resonance frequency, brake distribution, turning features like Mazda GVC all will affect on ride quality.

no, rm800 package only fill up the two tunnel at the bottom of the car, how do you expect this will reduce body roll?

Okay, got it.....not worth it then

You have to do a lot for soundproofing to be effective. This will be expensive and add weight to your car increasing fuel consumption. Dismantling seats, body panels and dashboard may cause rattles and squeaks in future. In my opinion not worth it. Soundproofing is best done in the factory. If you want good NVH buy a better car.
*
Rattling and squeaking is due to the panel clips which is made of plastic. After some time plastic harden and most of the time never gets replaced.

So after doing sound proofing door panels or other stuff couldn't lock properly into place, causing it to squeak.

Be right, should replace those clips after a couple of years, especially if the car is frequently parked outside under hot sun
