Feedback by z3r0717 on the update:
QUOTE(z3r0717)
btw, i update the new software version already and my wi-fi is still fine.. phew...
seems like the htc apps is indeed more smoother even the leap view..

NOTE: Software update nothing to do with froyo
Just updates the htc stuff and etc

The battery indeed improved a lot!
I had my wifi on and went to sleep. next morning, the battery didn't even drop much..
In the JuicePlotter app, in the graph, the line just went straight, slowly going down....
from midnight 2am to 11am, percentage drop like 1-2% only, of course in standby mode..
when i just got the phone, it drop 20% over the night, and then 5% the minimum, now 1-2%..

Rooting
Why root?
It gives you full control over your system and able to alter system files. You can also install many custom ROMs available online. Here are 5 among many other reasons to root your device: http://lifehacker.com/5342237/five-great-r...r-android-phone

How do I root my device?
There are many guides out there. Here are a few of them:Where can I get these custom ROMs?
QUOTE(benny888)
Just go over to forum-xda. HTC Desire section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628 - rom discussion here. Roms are free - but you are encourage to donate if you can, to the rom cook. If you don't want to donate , you can still download and there is no limit how many times you can download. If you want special preconfigure roms up to your own choices - try Modaco at http://android.modaco.com/category/430/htc...ire-modaco-com/ . you need to pay a small contribution once only - with this you can use his online kitchen to bake any rom for any phone that he'd developed; again no limitation
If i root my Desire, can i unrooted back to stock rom, where can i get exactly the stock rom as i have right now.
QUOTE(maliqu3)
Download the stock rom for HTC Desire from here to unroot your phone so that you can claim the warranty after that.
Is my warranty will void if i root? do i need to unroot if i need to send the HTC Service Center?
QUOTE(maliqu3)
Rooting your Desire won't void your warranty (you must have faith about the warranty though) since it's not NexusOne that will leave a trace (an unclasped lock) even if you have unrooted back.

QUOTE(benny888 @ Jul 9 2010, 08:32 PM)
battery life - if you buy such stuffs , no need to be too concerned. Cannot compare to normal phones. Most people with regular usage can last a working day. Anyway one can always buy a spare battery. I have use most of the smartphones and I'd say the general rule of a working day is a good guide unless you use it mostly to browse - then maybe 3-4 hours max. And no one can give any specific answer as everyone of us use it differently. The manufacturer specs are all ideal situation - eg call hours I find has no meaning provided you dun use the phone for other things which we won't be if we end up buying such stuff
*
Agreed and get a car charger too if you travel alot.

For those who were discussing about AMOLED vs SLCD, here is a video for you guys:

Not much difference from what I can see. However there isn't a test below sunlight to judge how good is SLCD is.

However that's for EVO (CDMA) though, sadly no news on Desire yet.
