i have a question on Unrevoked3:
1. After applied, i will have root access only, right? i do not need to flash a different rom?
2. I am T-M's Desire, i want to update the firmware to 1.21 (i am using 1.15), can i do that? I can download it from Xda, but sure anyone did that.
3. In case Froyo is out for Desire, can i still update the OTA?
*
Once unrooted, you can install any roms. You can keep original rom. It doesn't matter where you bought the phone, you can install other roms too.
OTA updates cannot be done on rooted phones. Why bother ? If is rooted you can get better customized version usually within the next few days after the official is out - just snoop around forum XDA

thanks!

The reason i root mine is not due to any roms, i just need to access the root and install stuffs.
And, 1 more Q: once i done, meaning i have the root access. But, i still cannot install apps to SD card yet. Can i install the App2SD?
*
Yes you can install to sd card when the new ver 2.2 Froyo is released.

On current rom, if you want to install to SD you need to look for the appropriate custom rom. The cooks use 2 methods - direct install to SD card on the FAT32 portion or install to the extended partition SD ext 3 or ext 4. You need to partition your card first using custom recovery to build these hidden extended partitions.

At this time the best choice is desire not nexus. Google had already confirm no more production of nexus. Google CEO said the nexus was just an experiment from google to show Android can be a equal if not better alternative to the iPhone. All google partners htc, SAMSUNG, motorola will develop the phones. The nexus will still be used by google to improve the android platform. Those having nexus will definitely get software upgrade faster, eg my nexus already updated to froyor 2.2 a month ago while desire will have it end aug/sep, motorola sep, Sony in dec, SAMSUNG by oct etc.

The desire has local sis warranty, extra ram 576mb versus nexus 512mb, and I feel it's hardware keys is better than nexus soft keys. Performance wise not much difference as both are same specs basically and hardware chip and graphics. For those who are new, nexus is actually a htc product make for google. The desire is htc version of the nexus.

If you like to tinker with rooms, the nexus offer you more options. This might change later once there are more desire users.

As a smartphone you won't go wrong buying either one. It is just like asking to buy city or vois, accord or camry etc.

But I would say the trackball in nexus is damn good, don't know why desire didn't follow. Maybe htc wants the desire to be more different. I can now set different colors to miss call, SMS, tweeter and google mail, other email - very useful. When silent mode, I just look at the trackball and I know what is incoming

anyone have any solution?

Please provide details. Such a vague question unable to assist. Is your company on pop or imap? Did you get the incoming pop or imap settings correct. Does your company allow acess to mail with outsider phones ? Some company restrict but to some staff the admin will allow, depend on company policy.

Just wondering, oh well, if you cook from modaco, it will download to your PC which enable you to share with your friends ? laugh.gif
Please don't report me for piracy. Just asking as not sure how it ROMs will go to. Will it be to phone straight ? unsure.gif

When you baked a rom online from Paul's Modaco kitchen - you have the option to select several options, example you can choose not to install some of the default programs, option to have 2 types of apps2SD, keyboard type input etc. Besides the core programs , you can choose and pick your choices. I'd say is money well spent. You pay only once and you have the benefits of using his kitchen anytime for any phone type , there is no limitations at all.

Once you selected all your options, just select "BAKED". The zip file will be downloaded to your computer - depending on the website traffic, usually takes about 15-30 mins. Once the zip file is downloaded, you can copy it to the SD card. Switch off phone, go to recovery mode. WIPE clean data, cache, dalvik cache, sd ext ( if you have created the extended partition) and then just run the zip file. Within usually about 5-10 minutes, you will have a new rom.

The process is very simple. NO programming knowledge is required

Can you share the cooked rom file ?? Frankly I have no idea - you can always try and update us. Personally I think you can share as the baked rom doesn't identify your hardware in its configuration/setup of the rom. Of course you must use it in the same type of phone.

u just download the installer and press one button is it when using Unrevoked root method? u installed custom ROM oso using the unrevoked program? sorry NooB at this..where do u get the custom ROM from? xda is it? must become a member then only can download rite?

Just go over to forum-xda. HTC Desire section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628 - rom discussion here. Roms are free - but you are encourage to donate if you can, to the rom cook. If you don't want to donate , you can still download and there is no limit how many times you can download. If you want special preconfigure roms up to your own choices - try Modaco at http://android.modaco.com/category/430/htc...ire-modaco-com/ . you need to pay a small contribution once only - with this you can use his online kitchen to bake any rom for any phone that he'd developed; again no limitation

why must you ask ppl to visit your blog leh? this forum suppose to give answer to ppl who needs help. discussion is open here. if want to help, just provide the answers, else stfu. your answer is not better than "just google it". then this forum can be closed if everyone like you.

You are plain rude. If you bother to visit his blog , he had taken a lot of effort to write out a simplified version - is not few sentences ; a mini essay. You expect him to copy and paste everytime a person ask such questions ? It is just ONE ( SATU ) click away , what is so difficult ?

I don't believe it till today people still want to be spoonfed right to the mouth - that's how you are. Hate to say it !

According to many experts at the various Android forums which I often jalan, on Froyo 2.2 it is highly recommended you get a class 6 card.

QUOTE(akachester @ Jul 22 2010, 02:15 PM)
Question here guys, i have been reading XDA a little bit and confused about the App2SD feature. I thought that was defaulted in Froyo? Why do some of the post there have written concerns about choosing a new App2SD or old version etc. Aren't they all the same on Froyo?
*
I answer this before : repost here

Let me try to explain this with my limited knowledge. I know nothing about Linux/SD ext etc until I bought my Nexus 3 months ago. By default all apps will be install in main memory. However Google had said the latest ver 2.2 will allow apps to be install onto SD card - this is native apps2sd. To be able to have apps install to card , the developer of the apps must built in this option for you to choose during installation. As of now many of the apps still do not have this option and the apps will be install in memory even if you are on ver 2.2 Android/Froyo.

Before ver 2.2 was released, many of the rom cooks customize the rom of previous ver 2.1 and even present ver 2.2 to allow you to "force install" onto the SD card - if you were to read into the details of the roms, usually 2 types - install directly to sd card ( ie on the FAT32 portion ) or install onto extended partitions , commonly called sd ext. Before you can use sd ext partiotion, you must partition your sd card first - there are several methods , the easiest is to use custom recovery. Using custom recovery you firs select the swap size, then the size of the extended partition, default is ext 2 - normally most people will use 512 MB upwards ; I use 1024 M. Once you have create this ext 2 , you can immediate upgrade it to ext 3 ( with journalling features). I notice most rom cooks will ask you to setup ext 3 , only a minority will be ext 4. These extended partitions you cannot view it in your computer as is hidden ; similarly in the phone using the file explorer , you cannot see it. Installing apps into the sd ext is the most popular method so far used by the various rom cooks.

for those rom that are customized to allow you to install directly on the SD card - you can view all the files/apps. In my various trials of the different roms, I find that apps install to sd ext is most reliable, can say is 100 % reliable. For roms where you force install on the sd card directly ( so called native apps2sd), depending on rom , sometimes some apps are not display when you put it out on the homescreen - what you see is just a blank image , but the link to the app still work. I believe this issue is only temporary until the apps are modified to allow installation directly to the card

I hope with this simplified explanation, you have a better idea

Any Linux experts, please correct me if I am wrong or best of all explain it further

This is after i installed Homerun Battle 3D.

Why is my internal storage is also used. Should the game installed only in SD?

Same principle as in windows OS. When you install a program , say on Drive D the bulk of the program files will be in D drive but many files will be install in C drive in windows/system etc > so many of the system files will be install in internal memory

http://battellemedia.com/archives/2010/07/...k_phone_gap.php

The media really, really, really loves to write about Apple and the iPhone these days. It reminds me of Google in 2004, when the media fell in love with the concept of search.

Besides the antennae story, which I find hopelessly over reported, the latest iPhone rhapsody has been how many iPhone 4s Apple has sold - apparently, 3 million as of last Friday. Friday was July 16th. The iPhone 4 launched on June 24, so that'd be 23 days to reach the 3 million mark.

3 million phones in 23 days - that's a pretty strong clip, the fastest sales of an Apple phone to date, Mashable reports. If I do the math, that's more than 130,000 phones a day.

But did anyone in the press notice Google's little announcement, the day before Apple launched its iPhone 4? This one? The one where Google said, and I quote:

"Every day 160,000 Android-powered devices are activated -- that’s nearly two devices every second."
iphone4logo.png

Yep, that'd be 30K MORE phones a day than Apple. And my guess is that Android's pace is accelerating, while the iPhone 4 is probably sliding downward, given how many folks bought it at launch (Mashable reports that 1.7 million were sold in first three days, so 1.3 million the next 20 days). In fact, if you do THAT math, and divide 1.3 million by 20 days, you get 65,000 iPhone 4s sold each day, which is nearly 100,000 less, PER DAY, than Android phones.

Is that story anywhere in the press? Not that I see.

As far as I can tell, Android-based phones will far outnumber any other smart phone by year's end. Apple, meet your new Windows. It's name is Android.
