does task killer really needed in this phone in order to free up the ram?

What's the cheapest rate plan and data plan if I intend to purchase this from Maxis? I know that the cheapest rate plan is Value Plus 50 which cost RM50 per month, but what about the data plan? Couldn't find any pricing info for it on Maxis official site. Noob in this kind of plan thing.

Say I was to subscribe for Value Plus 50. Is the monthly commitment fee inclusive of all the SMS, phone calls, and data packet transfer that I might used during a month? Extra charges only incurred to me if I exceeded those? An example was I send 50 SMS to other Maxis phone user within a month, so would the monthly fee RM50 or RM50+ 0.05x50?

Hope someone can clear this up.

So I guess if I am to purchase it from Maxis center (bonded by 12 month contract), I will need to pay a total of RM1,499 + (RM98*12) = RM2,675. So I guess purchasing just the unit itself is far more cheaper in the long run.

To be honest, its always cheaper to purchase the unit itself unless you can fully utilize the plan provided by Maxis. The problem with Maxis for me is the uncertainty over their Data Plan usage. Some say they overcharge, some say they are fine with it. I felt better off not taking the risk and problem

dont forget that the value 50, RM 50 you still have to pay regardless of what phone you using.
So it's actually 48*12 = RM 576.
end up still abit more expensive than phone itself.
But then consider as free data plan for 12 months lor.

I would like to know whether HTC Desire from Maxis is unlocked or locked set. I in the process to root the phone & wondering whether what use goldcard or what. Kindly let me know. Thank you.

Just got my phone rooted, didn't use Gold Card. I used Unrevoked one-click root, then flashed the Desire Froyo "Official" ROM.

I had trouble getting Unrevoked to work - forgot to run reflash.exe as administrator and check "enable USB debugging" - apart from that, it was smooth rooting and flashing.

Number 1 reason for me to root? I wanted to access Paid apps, and actually PAY FOR THEM.

Number 1 reason to move to Froyo? A2SD

Haven't encountered any bugs on this ROM, will post if i find any.

officially i have rooted with Unrevoked, on custom rom now. trying out De-Villian. so far so good, on thing is the app installed in SD, might take a longer time to open (1-3 sec slower compare with in phone memory).

Haven't used Spirit Jailbreak, but once you've done Unrevoked you can install custom ROMs.

Not really one button. You have to install USB drivers in comp, uninstall HTC Sync, then the rest is done by the program. Flashing ROM is via the hp itself. I believe the procedure to flash custom ROMs is standard, read it up.

Have the same problem here, whether using stock sms program or Handcent. If anybody finds a fix, pls let us know. I've search many websites for a solution and have found nothing!

The ROM i flashed is a rooted "official" Desire Froyo ROM. So it's rooted, that's how i got Market Enabler and paid apps. Head on to XDA for the details. Ppl say this is the most stable, bug-free froyo-sense ROM so far, since the original froyo ROM was from HTC themselves.

may i ask, what does it mean by kitchen feature in modaco ROM? u need to donate to use it rite? what does it do anyway?

I think it's the same if you download the pre-cooked one right? Some people prefer to cook the roms themselves to add/remove stuff.

When you baked a rom online from Paul's Modaco kitchen - you have the option to select several options, example you can choose not to install some of the default programs, option to have 2 types of apps2SD, keyboard type input etc. Besides the core programs , you can choose and pick your choices. I'd say is money well spent. You pay only once and you have the benefits of using his kitchen anytime for any phone type , there is no limitations at all.

Once you selected all your options, just select "BAKED". The zip file will be downloaded to your computer - depending on the website traffic, usually takes about 15-30 mins. Once the zip file is downloaded, you can copy it to the SD card. Switch off phone, go to recovery mode. WIPE clean data, cache, dalvik cache, sd ext ( if you have created the extended partition) and then just run the zip file. Within usually about 5-10 minutes, you will have a new rom.

The process is very simple. NO programming knowledge is required

Can you share the cooked rom file ?? Frankly I have no idea - you can always try and update us. Personally I think you can share as the baked rom doesn't identify your hardware in its configuration/setup of the rom. Of course you must use it in the same type of phone.
