Pretty much 2 hours+ depending what I'm doing..
When you said the battery empty when you try to boot on the next day, was it resuming from hibernation or normal boot ?
No need to send the laptop, call Dell to come to your house to replace the keyboard laugh.gif
*
normal boot

That means in the time between, it somehow turned on ?
Do you have any schedule or task that can wake up the notebook ?
*

since i didnt install/set any schedule for it to wake up
but these few days dont have such problem already

btw sometimes the boot up part (the dell logo part) there very slow and it might become not responding at all
have to switch off and switch on again
before this dont have this kind of problem hmm.gif

Any show stopping problems with Ubuntu? I'm thinking of getting a new laptop and I use Linux almost all the time.
*
well, ubuntu works fine on studio xps 16
but it got the very annoying intel GC disabled notification keep popping out every time u boot up the OS
but no big deal
ubuntu + macbuntu = laugh.gif

for the wifi card/modem/graphic card driver, u can always go to download the driver by using the additional driver in ubuntu laugh.gif
it will automatic detect the device and download the latest driver for it

hello people
my laptop will shut down by itself
it happened during my presentation just now
it's not the first time, it was like randomly one, a few times already
sometimes twice a week, sometimes ok for the whole week
and it cant turn on after that
have to unplug the battery and plug it back in order to turn it on
i already called dell and they will send a technician to check the problem

btw when i unplugged the charger after fully charged the battery
the windows there will still shows that the battery is still charging, and it take a while to changed to power saver mode (with battery), which doesnt happened before until recently
and the red column in the picture (not sure what's the name) >>
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

the light there will keep on even i already unplugged the charger or shut it down
have to take out the battery from the laptop in order to off the light

any of the users here encounter this problem?

I had a battery problem too, it would not charge sometimes. But at the same time I had mouse and keyboard problems. After 1 MB change (plus keyboard and top panel change), no more problems at all.

If only I could get the i8 fan control to work...
*
yours is 6cell or 9cell?
mine was fine until last 2 weeks, it will shut down by itself, and i cant switch it unless i remove the battery and put it back
the charging part will delay (after unplugged the charger, the windows still showing charging)
the tech support asked me to run diagnostic at F12
nothing unusual came out
but they already open a case for me and the techinician will come over my site on wed

Added on May 28, 2011, 7:02 pm
the battery extended life one i know already
it's the old version's bug i guess
already updated to the new version

hello people,
i think all of u know that dell's warrant is next business day on-site right?

the tech support opened a case for my laptop due to battery problem on last friday

the tech support said that the engineer will come in to my place on today (wed) on last friday with full confidence, and she did told me that monday and tuesday is public holiday

but then just now the person from region HQ told me they will come in by tomorrow

he told me it's due to the 2 days state's holiday (sabah, 30 and 31 may) and they just received the case on this morning

i called the tech support just now and they told me it's SOP due to state's holiday in Sabah
then i ask them why they dont inform me at the first point

they said they received the statement on last minute and they didnt know it is state's public holiday
then how come the one who helped me opened the case know it's public holiday and telling me that the person will come in on wednesday? hmm.gif

i did called to tech support on monday around 4.30pm (peninsular malaysia doesnt have holiday) to reconfirm the case and they didnt inform me abt this vmad.gif

i assume that the statement of declaring holiday in Sabah is come in on tuesday, even it's like that, they should give me a call to inform me that the appointment will be postponed to thursday mah vmad.gif

ended up wasted my time to wait for the engineer to come in mad.gif

my case different.. i gave the A address, then i change to B address then change C address.. almost 1 week only they came included the time i keep on changing the address.. i ok with them they ok with me.. change heat-sink nia..
*
i see
in my case, i didnt change any contact information/address/etc
the tech support person said that monday and tuesday is holiday
so the person will come in on wednesday

but the region HQ over here told me the person will come in by tomorrow
i called tech support again and they told me they dont know it's holiday and they received the statement on last minute
but i did called them on monday, they still said that the appointment still on wednesday

then i asked them why they dont know abt the holiday?
they said it's their SOP to receive statement of state holiday in last minute
and they dont even border to call me/inform me the changes

so i wonder giving wrong infomation and didint inform changes to their customers is also part of their SOP?

Try check on the touchpad settings for touch senstivity and palm check, try reduce or increase it...
Press and hold the battery power level indicator, the first time it got light, its indicating the power level, as you hold it longer, it might have light come out for the second time, the longer the indicator, the more damaged your battery..
Tried Real Alternative + MPC ?
*
the touchpad part will try it later

it's real alternative 2.02 with latest MPC
the image doesnt sync with the voice
voice come first before images

the dell engineer came to my place and replaced the heat sink and the motherboard just now
after the replacement, the system was not stable (boot up screen keep flashing, media panel not working, taskbar cant show properly, etc) because the bios version of the new board was A07 doh.gif
after flashed to A11, everything works fine biggrin.gif

and the engineer told me that i can just send my laptop to their office to do check up because their office is located around my college area

guys i know this is kind of a dumb question but..

is it necessary to remove the battery when i'm at home?

i mean is it bad for the battery if keep charging it?
*
i do remove it for better cooling

u can go to battery meter (fn+F3) there to disable the battery from charging to protect the battery

Not consistent at all, just out of sudden it's out. I pressed all the keyboard button and nothing came out. Think of calling Dell regarding this problem.

maybe it's the cable problem?
call tech support and ask them to dispatch an engineer to ur site to fix it
