What's a good firmware to update the unit to have NAS feature?

did u mean the 3rd party FW ke?? refer to page one... i put some links for HD2 fw... currently i'm using it and happy with it

ok...

just updated the new FW.... so far so good...

quick way to update is to download the img files and copy it into an empty USB drive... (FAT32 or ext2)...
insert the USB drive into the port of the Oplay.... with a pin, press and hold the reset button on the side panel. While holding the reset button, unplug the power supply. Wait for a few seconds (5 sec) and then turn back the power then release the reset button.

you will get this screen

then after a few secs...this screen appeared


after about 5 minutes, update is completed

and the device will reboot itself

the original asus logo during boot


here's how the new fw looks like..nothing much different with previous version except for the new menu title (moservices)


inside mos menu u can see skin selector and 4 prebuild skins are to be selected...


testing with the leaf skin


the online media somehow being revamped from previous version


the X Live Menu..i tested some of the channel but so far nothing are available


the only thing i dont like is the adult channel is displayed in the menu.... should be blocked or hidden....


well, i will put some more inputs with the new FW

so far i'm very pleased

I'm using Asus O!Play Air R3 also.

I've just updated the firmware to 1.23N version.
Does that version support NAS? I got a little bit confused about what NAS is, is it something like sharing the storage over the network which is connected to the media player?

***Is the third party firmware better than the original firmware?

BTW, I've some problems browsing my pc contents via UPNP, sometimes you have to refresh a few times to see the content.

I noticed that's a problem with viewing the mkv files from my pc (windows 7), you have to install a codec pack or tv media server or something on your pc, only then windows 7 media streaming will allow you to share mkv files over the network. However, it's not stable.

Bro enjiner, do you have problems while browsing your pc content?

are u supposed to installed 1.23P for PAL version... unless u're not in malaysia...malaysia used PAL system

all of the asus original fw sucks....the latest still lack of NAS ...

the HD2 firmware is much better than original asus.... so far i havent tried UPNP feature.... i just plug onto mu ext hd and go...

the asus orinal firmware got problem with mkv files...i read lotso people complaint when playing mkv files... even mkv subtitle pon tak auto play.. so best solution is to flash with the HD2.... now i can watch youtube

I saw from my TV showing ntsc so I updated to NTSC.

How does the NAS work on asus R3?
Is it something like that I copy files to the external hdd connected to the R3 from my pc directly over the network?

I search over the web and I still not sure how it works on R3 assuming running the HD2 firmware on R3.

BTW, the HD2 firmware you're talking about is third party firmware right?

NAS= i think u knew already what it's/// network attached storage... u have to install the script asus include in the cd..then configure ur pc and network

unfortunately, there are lotso bugs in oplay fw which asus didnt want to fix. If u have the time, u can read it over on asus official forum click here
u can see lot of user complaining about NAS and other stuff and asus simply denied them.... this is what happening and why most of them changed to HD2.. yup HD2 is the 3rd party fw.... the feature of hd2 can be read in the link i gave....

I am staying in Malaysia maybe I was mistaken cause I think i saw NTSC from my TV.

I will try to upgrade to HD2 firmware and see how it goes.
The NAS feature is a big plus.

BTW, a little bit scare upgrading the custom firmware since you mentioned it's not possible to rollback and I just bought the device for less than 1 week.

dont be scared bro.. but me to was scared back then... but i just read somewhere that u can restore the original fw the same way... just couldnt find it now... but it's the moservice forum

the only risk is while upgrading it, there is a power failure and then u might brick the device...

anyway, not forcing you to flash it....just read all the link i put and give it a deep thought... and dont go and wallap me if something happen k... hehe

I edy flashed the device LOL and yes, it's a lot better than the original firmware.
Not only NAS, I can see the improvement on the UPNP also.

However, I got a problem. I tried to copy movies to the NAS over the network, it is very SLOW, like around 500 KB per second.
How is yours working? A lot faster than me?

like i told ya, i havent fully tried using NAS.... try asking at the moservice forum perhaps they can help..

i bought this o!player from one kind forumer,selling very cheap,with original fw. heartbroken when cannot play srt on mkv bla bla bla. until i found yr thread and yr kind guidance. its very nice skin,smooth,except still cannot wifi. maybe i shud try tonite. tqvm bro. u rawks!

currently im using the FW introduced by bro enjiner, but seems like i just can enable or disable the skin selector . then i upgrade to http://moservices.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=221 blue which is no skin selector function at all. is there any new FW for this HDP R3? oh,by the way,i still cannot connect to the internet,connecting-just stop like that. i wonder if otai here can help me. thanks

I also have the oplay air HDP-R3 , so i need some suggestion from you enJiNer as i saw you are satisfied with 3rd party FW.
I have several questions about the HD2 Fw...

- Which is the most up to date FW (maybe which one do u use which you suggest for me to feed up my needs ,and maybe you can give me the link for..

- As i stated is there still working the Wifi with the HD2 Fw (not just cable lan connection)?

- It would be important to play Youtube , and can i login into my youtube account from oplay ?

- There is a way to use some kind of internet browser ,to watch for ex. facebook or such pages ?

- Can i connect using trough wifi and network the file sharing , because in my Original FW is asking for Net User ID and password and i couldnt connect , just if i used the UPnP connection ,bytheway it was freqvently not showing the files in the dir.

- It is a bit to long to get it to the media files , as i cannot make a favorit or shortcut

i have bought 2 days ago the oplay air and com's with bootcode 23 and the 1.28P FW , so what do you suggest me to use ?????

i apreciate your help a lot !!!!!!

Just for whos encounter the problem trough wifi network connection when asking for NET USER ID and NET PASSWORD then you have to modify some of registry keys to get work .
I tried and it works !!

the steps are:

Follow this in order to see your shares (it is working for Vista + windows 7 and probably windows server 2003)
the problem is that your shared folder guest access is restricted by the windows registry :
Click the Windows "Start" button in the lower left of your Desktop, and in the "start search" area type "regedit" and press enter.
1. After a security prompt you should have the Registry Editor open.
2. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
1. On the right side Double Click on everyoneincludesanonymous and in the window that pops up, change the value data from a 0 value to a 1
2. Double Click on NoLmHash and in the window that pops up, change the Value Data from a 1 value to a 0
3. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters
1. Double Click on restrictnullsessaccess and change the 1 value to a 0
NOTE: There is no need to "save" these changes, as you make changes to the registry it is saved automatically.
2. Close the registry editor and restart the computer.
3. Now to ensure the network is refreshed in oplay ,you better restart and reconnect to the network again .

For me after this modifications i could connect to my network without asking for NET USER ID ...
I had my folders shared to Admin/everyone/myself and i had made another user Oplayer with the same password (oplayer) .
The Oplayer account i made to have shares just for Oplayer user account ,the reason was to have network folders shared with password !!!
I hope i could help for some of you with this info .... as i was desperated several days with this problem
