it's either hold "camera button + power on" or hold "X button + power on".

know your bootloader
hold UP on the keypad while boot your MS to load bootloader,
if 90.78, to enter recovery mode is hold X then press Power
if not 90.78, HOLD Camera button then press Power

try follow the steps on this link to flash the vulnerable recovery.
1. For this we need a Only-Recovery SBF file which we can flash via RSD Lite
2. First install the USB drivers from Motorola
3. Then you need the RSD Lite Tool | Linux machines can use the linux flasher (created by [mbm])
4. And the 90.78 Recovery-Only SBF (which will downgrade the Recovery Partition and not the system)
5. Start the RSD Lite, select the SBF file
6. Plug in your phone (while it's off)
7. Go into the Bootloader Mode by holding UP (on the hardware keyboard) and press Power-On for 2-3 seconds
8. Now select your phone which should be now visible in the RSD Lite tool
9. Press Start
10. The phone will reboot 1-3 times during the downgrade process. DO NOT unplug it

The latest CM7 build seems very stable and battery also last quite long.

After 14 hours only consumed 13% battery. This is with some usages.

if gaming i think 2.1 still better.
if functionality and stability, try CM7 RC13 (11.08.14)
CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RC13 11.08.14 (Android 2.3.5)

MIUI not very good at 3rd party software coz the memory almost all is used by the MIUI OS.
CM7 RC13 will feel more balanced and stable. but the launcher always face redraw issue. if your Mlestone is rooted, install root explorer and navigate your way to /data/ and choose "open as text" for 'local.prop' file. then add this line: "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1" at the end, after that press enter one more time to make sure there is a empty line at the lowest row. save and restart and your launcher will be a bit better.

Hey guys. Just made the jump to Cyanogenmod 7 for Milestone.

Everything's great except that I don't seem to be able to get Google Apps on it. I applied both the cyanogen zip file and the gapps zip.

When it came to the initial setup wizard, it attempts to look for Gmail in the market but does not find anything. The only thing it was able to find from the checklist of Google Apps was Facebook.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Found a workaround. It seems that unless we're in the US region we are not able to see Gmail and other google apps in the Market. (Seriously Google?)

I used the gapps file (for CM7) from the Cyanogenmod Page.

http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip

Then look for Market Enabler, change your region to T-Mobile, look and download google apps, revert back to default carrier settings.

The reason to use this and not the one in the CM7 for Milestone page is because this is using an older version of Market. Market Enabler is not compatible with the newer Market.

the crash somehow is related to the language that you selected. don't use English (America), instead use English (Canada) or English (UK)

nandroid backup not for download, it is created when you select to create a back up of your current OS. to create the backup you need run Open Recovery and choose nandroid backup option.

have you download Open Recovery and successfully boot into it?
if you have then just follow the installation according to your link. here's the steps to make it easier for you:
Installation:
- use OpenRecovery Apply Update menu to install the zip copied to /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
- data wipe/factory reset is highly recommended when you are upgrading from another rom/firmware (or having any issues )

if you got important files or apps from your current OS, you need to do backup of it. i recommend titanium backup for it's effectiveness and simplicity. but your Milestone also need to be rooted for titanium backup can do a backup.

the select language is at your Milesone's setting>language and keyboard.
