@pcphobic,
Do you have any recommended software to erase ext2 content?
*
Yes. This free software called mini tools partition wizard.
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

My advice is that u hangout at XDA Developers forum in the Motorola Milestone forum.
All the experts are there.

wow pcphobic, are you one of the dev at xda? You sound like one (and you even PM me those steps and all about Cronos..) sweat.gif I am sort of speechless..

Anyway, the ROM looks fast, but I'm not in a mood to flash anything else to my phone as of yet. Maybe when I feel that Gingerbread have something that I really need, I will surely have a look at Cronos first laugh.gif

No worries bro. I am just sharing my experience after spending most of my time over at XDA Developers forum.

All NEWBIES should head over to XDA developers forum.
All the experts are there plus a wealth of info are there.

To start your journey on the custom ROM route, u need to break free (jailbreak) your locked Milestone by following this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811221

Note: Recommended to use either RETAIL EUROPE (RTEU) or UK RETAIL (RTUK)

I am currently switching back and forth between the following 2 forums:

Hi Pcphobic & All bro,

What is the advantages of Ginger vs Froyo 2.2?

Been using Froyo 2.2 & feel quite ok & lazy to upgrade to ginger, afraid our Milestone will be sluggish after installing this ginger, any comment/feedback?

thanks!

It is Android 2.3.4 now with Cronos Ginger ver.1.4

You can install Talk ver.1.3 that enables u to make voice and video calls to friends on PC who are using Gmail chat (via Gmail) or friends who have an Android phone with front facing camera running on Android 2.3.3 and above.

I have been making voice calls using Talk to friends overseas. Saved me on expensive IDD charges.

You also get better battery life on Gingerbread.

No random reboots so far since I flashed Cronos ver.1.4 on 30th of May.
( The official website is at http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/ )

Cronos Ginger ver.1.4 - Overnight Battery Drain Test

I always perform the same benchmark test with any new ROM that I flash to gauge for myself how much battery it drains on idle/standby.

Condition:

Data Connection: 2G only
Google Contacts Sync: On
Google Calendar Sync: On
Gmail Sync: On
Talk: On

Result:
It lost only 10% after 8 hours of idle.

I have also tweaked it with Autokiller Memory Optimizer with the following settings:
Hidden app: 24
Content provider: 28
Empty app: 30

Hey, pcphobic.

I'm a real noob here. I've bought a milestone (2nd hand), already with Cyanogenmod 7 RC3. I've read the first post and I've looked into chronosproject site, XDA and others. SBF, Nandroid, OpenRecovery and others. And I am still confused and don't know how to flash a custom rom.

Is there any tutorial, step-by-step, how to flash Chronos? What are the requirements? I really appreciate it if you could help me here as my milestone is random lag, FC and even reboots. Sakit hati woo...

ps: It was easier to flash when using Galaxy 5. Using only Odin.

First of all go do your research (google is your friend) on the following terms (it took me a few days to learn):

- Recovery mode
- Recovery menu
- Open Recovery menu aka Custom Open Recovery menu
- Androidiani Open Recovery
- Bootloader mode
- Bootloader menu
- Nandroid backup

Then u need to use the G.O.T method to "break free" or trick the phone to accept unsigned Open Recovery menu.

Please refer to this posting for further details on using the G.O.T method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811221

I am seldom here. All the experts are in XDA forum and Cronosproject.org

i follow the steps in this links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047536

indeed it is faster now. 2048 yield the fastest with average of 8.6MB write and 21MB write. previously only 15MB read 6MB write.

Here's my result after I did this tweak

i am looking to get a milestone 2 from ebay. can i know is there any difference on DROID 2? or they are just same unit?

can it be used in malaysia ?
*
DROID is for USA only. So may not work outside of USA.

Milestone is the European or Global version of the DROID which works all over the world except USA and some parts of North and South America.

Hey guys. Just made the jump to Cyanogenmod 7 for Milestone.

Everything's great except that I don't seem to be able to get Google Apps on it. I applied both the cyanogen zip file and the gapps zip.

When it came to the initial setup wizard, it attempts to look for Gmail in the market but does not find anything. The only thing it was able to find from the checklist of Google Apps was Facebook.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

You will need to spoof your phone as a USA telco phone using MarketEnabler app first.

Then only u can see Gmail, Youtube, Voice Search, Google+, Google Maps in the Android Market app

To download the boot animation and start up sound, go to the following link
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/08/26/downl...boot-animation/

To get the sound to play at start up, please follow the guide by vadonka (thanks) at this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...&postcount=2960

I converted the Bionic.ogg into mp3 format. You may download it from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10439360/Bionic.mp3

Remember to rename Bionic.mp3 to android_audio.mp3 and copy it into the /system/media folder.

Remember to change the file permission to rw-r--r--

So happened I was busy the whole of yesterday. Only managed to use it for a while to check Facebook and Google+ notifications and postings.

My phone was on 2G by default. Used wi-fi for a little while. Also used Google Maps and GPS for a short time (on 3G).

@pcphobic wanted to ask what actually does the DSI fix do?? if lets say sometimes my phone experience a freeze or random reboot this dsi may fix the problem?? also wanna ask what is the best way to execute heavy ram game like cut the rope..always need to reboot then only can play sad.gif i know this is a 256mb ram phone
*
Go search for Cut The Rope Lite. There is a smaller file Cut the Rope apk for Milestone.

Take note that these days, some games are for phones using Tegra 2 CPU. So do not feel bad if some games cannot play on our Milestone.

Also some games really need alot of RAM, and as you know our Milestone 256ram is not enuff. So save money and get the Nexus PRIME aka Nexus 3.

DSI error is when your phone freezes up.

Added on August 28, 2011, 6:15 pmI modified the boot up sound effect to include the "Droooiiiiddd....." sound for my Droid Bionic Boot Animation

My Overnight Battery Drain Test on CyanogenMod 7.1

Data Connection
Mobile Data: 2G only
Wi-Fi: Off
Bluetooth: Off
GPS: Off

Data Sync
Facebook: Off
Gmail: On
GTalk: On
Google+: On
Google Contacts: On

After 6 hours 33 minutes of idle, it only drained 4%. That is very good.

How to reinstall Gmail, Youtube, Google Maps and Voice Search if you keep getting forced closed on them after flashing a new custom ROM

1) Revert to old market app http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10439360/Market_2.3.6.apk
2) Install MarketEnabler http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10439360/marketenabler-v3.1.1.2.apk
3) Launch MarketEnabler and select one of the USA telco in the list and long press on it and select it to spoof your phone
4) Then Launch the old Android Market App and do a search for "Google Inc"
5) You should then see apps like Gmail, Youtube, Voice Search and Google Maps. These apps are hidden from Android phones outside of USA.

As for Google Maps. I use a hacked version called OnWhere Google Maps where it has the Voice Turn by Turn Navigation.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007132

I am currently using an older version of OnWhere because the newer version drains battery for some unknown reason.
You can grab a copy from my Dropbox at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10439360/maps5.2.1-ownhere.apk

Added on November 2, 2011, 7:10 pmI also wrote a guide for newbies on rooting and installing custom ROM for Milestone.

Added on November 3, 2011, 1:53 amInstead of waiting for the real Ice Cream Sandwich, I have decided to theme my CyanogenMod 7.1 ROM with the Ice Cream Sandwich theme

Ice Cream Sandwich Theme on CM7

See this article - http://www.androidcentral.com/android-them...dwich-cm7-theme

I have also change the icon packs for my LauncherPro to get that Ice Cream Sandwich look.
