guys, maybe it's not a right place for me to rant here...
but, hope u guys can give me a piece of advice...

I joined the Pesta Sungai Melaka 2010 Forografi Competition ( students category)
got 11 participants only, 6 prizes (1st, 2nd , 3rd and 3 sagu hati)

I already expected myself to win the 1st prize, or if not one of the first three placing.
I dunno wat went wrong, I got sagu hati..

And worst of all, the person that got first is my friend that just got his SLR 2 days ago!
I feeling so disappoint man !

Here's my pic.. I ll upload his pic later for u guys to compare.
I doubt my shot is so bad,..the judges must be blind !

how come F8+iso100 would take up 30sec? u use ND? and why there is noise on the water?

i think the softness of the pic cause by the 30sec? is it windy?

mastering: but u wrote u shoot at iso100? it should be noiseless? and 30sec is seriously too long IHMO. i hardly shoot that long unless i try to get dreamy effect from water or sky.

zeipher, understanding ur flash. if there is something blocking or diffusion ur flash, it will not go distance. apply some logic here smile.gif

diffuser works best at 3-8 meter distance and when the ceiling is too high(20 meter up). nearer u might get overexpose, too far, the flash cant reach u get underexpose.

covering event, what is the shooting distance? ceiling distance etc.

if u are shooting something u can go up to 2 meter close, use bounce. try not to bounce when ur subject is closer then 2 meter, coz the shadow from the bounce closer then 2 meter length are harsh.

if u are shooting a stage event where u are 10-15 meter away, the best method is still direct flash. at 10 meter, the direct flash will not be as harsh as 3 meter direct flash.

uzary, i think u better stay in this forum and hang around.

continue ur saving up to 3k first then only decide again, by that time, newer better model will be out and u have plenty of option.

1.5k is a little tight, and u will be very disappointed realizing that the 1.5k gear would bring u to hardly nowhere... after a body, the next poisonousness buy is the flash, which range from 700-1.1k

actually i just sell my nikon, now left only old Minolta film SLR with lense... so thinking of get use of the lense... since Sony alpha can use, so might as well put it in my wish list....

btw, A550 good?
*
A550 is a top recommended camera. i wont say the best, but one thats on the top list. smile.gif

A7xx replacement wont be out so soon, even it is out, that camera will be so great, it will outlast at least 2 years of lower model releases. but the pricing, definitely can buy 2x A550...

higher guide number.. drool.gif

cobra head...more flexibility... icon_idea.gif

waiting sony come out with f68 to compete with canon one..(if the rumours are true)><
*
zstan: PLSSSSS stop spreading untrue information. they wont be F68. and what canon ones? canon top the 580exII has the same FLASH head internal as F58, hence the GN is 58 too (hence the 580EX). there arent official news about canon with new flash.

the key diff among these 2, Sony has WL built in, while the 580EX dont.

mastering: nikon CLS is better in term of 'control' in Commander mode. the commander mode (cls) is built into the body, but not all body has it. u can directly adjust the group flash power from the body, (sony controls using F58, which only available when mount on A850 and A900).

the biggest weakness is, it has weak trigger, sometimes the nikon flash did not fired. miss fire etc. (there are several other minor problems which is not a big concern)

but if u uses 'pocket wizards' or china trigger module, the CLS will NOT work. but u get 100% fires.

Thanks for the information  notworthy.gif  And I think the Nikon flashes limited to the placement also? Such as constrained by certain angles? Am I right?  hmm.gif

Then the biggest advantage of Sony flashes is I never missed any fire in wireless mode  brows.gif
*
if the placement angle is good, then should be no problem, but the problem, flash design, the head can only turn so much, so, sometimes, the angle of IR contact cant be 100% there. i also like the SB900 "beep", it also lets u know it DID fired.

yeap, but sadly, the alpha commander mode only avail on highest end body sad.gif.... many ppl hope the new a7xx will have compatible commander support like A850.

apparently the link is now broken. so its fake i presume.

edit: its working again. rclxub.gif

i also ever read rumor of F72, F98... design took over from metz's hammerhead... LOL. but where is it? rumor is jsut a rumor. smile.gif anyhow, let forget bout this, and move on to next topic.

anyhow. seriously, why canon would need a bigger GN? they can do clean iso3200, or some body even more, 6400, which puts the 580ex able to shoot up to 116meter! +F2.8 lens, it could goes up to 200meter... do we/they/whoever really need that kind of range?

bigger guide number=smaller iso to be used=more cleaner images? hmm.gif

of course we need that kind of range...very useful during pc fairs and super gt. brows.gif  laugh.gif  tongue.gif
*
okay, here we go

Bigger GN, bigger charge release, shorter batt stamina, longer cycle time. and prone to overheat. just because u wan use low iso. (also slows down ur burst (of if ur body ignore the flash and cont burst, u get black/underexpose frames)

small iso = black background, no diff from direct flash effect. (go try it)

a wedding/event shooter will tell u, they wan bigger better iso, just so that the flash has to work less and ready for the next shutter....(instead of half charge, fire half power, getting underexpose pic)

boss~ eerrr~ a bit of correction~ current a700 can use the f58 as commander too~ but only can trigger f58 and f42 in wireless mode~ a850 n a900 can trigger f36, f42, f56 and f58~  tongue.gif
*
Wrong hahaha,

u able to "trigger"(keyword) other flash with F58. u do not 'command'(keyword) on A700. commander means, u able to control(keyword) other flash power.

so the word should be, trigger-able on A700 tongue.gif
