tanjq87: Would rather go during magic hour and get the green/red/yellow color combo; I can't find my own picture that I posted a while back on this.

kakz1989: I... don't think you understand.

zstan: Look for the booth that says "owned by Leos Com Trading". That one should have it in stock (owned by the same guy over at Ampang Park, where he always stocks Tamron lenses in A-mount.)

fansoption: Nice, took me a while to recognize!

DecDevil: The Minolta AF lenses can be used on Sony Alpha bodies.

Uzumaki NaruTo: Looks good.

kevinwcw: I've tried a +4 Split Field Close Up Cokin Filter with my Zeiss 135mm F1.8. It is terribly challenging to focus, and at times it seems like it really can't focus at all. I have +2 and +4 close up filters in 55mm size which are much easier to use with the Minolta 70-210mm F4 (giving 1.1:1 magnification.)

zstan: Their 580EXII has a guide number of 58m as well. The flash head is the same size and power, and is produced by Matsushita - not Sony nor Canon.

Note that the flash head and flash are separate - that's why there are two serial numbers - one on the flash head, one on the flash body.

signither: Free Stofen and flash gels for RM450 more!

ieR: Wrong! What the heck are you talking about? The A700 can control and command off-camera F42/F58 flashes using the F58.

I have definitely done it many times with my A700.

user posted image
That is an A700 body.

user posted image
From the manual.

The A700 cannot trigger off-camera flashes using the F20, though.

achew: Nice!

kevinwcw: Close up filters give more magnification with longer focal lengths.

The close up filters I have just happen to be 55mm - they can be any size, but the bigger ones cost more obviously. The Cokin filters are independent of filter size but I do have a 77mm Cokin adapter hence I am able to use it with my Zeiss 135mm F1.8.

Gouki: Yes diffusers for the 580EXII fit the F58 perfectly.

mastering89: People who really shoot Velvia and Sensia will shoot you for calling it a lomography film!

kopitiam: Shoot film instead. Then you'll know how to process pictures so they look like film - or else it will look like a really bad attempt which doesn't look like film at all.

Same goes for all those people who try to make an infrared look and it fails terribly because they have no idea how the real thing is.

The pose is awkward for both shots.

fansoption: It looks perfectly fine, all your focusing test shots. Perhaps you need more practice and calmness when shooting female subjects to avoid misfocusing/nudging focus point. biggrin.gif

If you do find that your camera tends to prefer to focus on dudes... switch it to manual focus lah what to do.

8tvt: 30mm for APS-C.

ianho: Yeah man, Zeiss lenses have always had this sexy brushed metal look. biggrin.gif

Surely you've heard of the Zeiss Contax N 24-85mm F3.5-4.5?

Don't forget the 35-350mm F3.5-5.6L USM. tongue.gif

Did you also try the Sony E 16mm F2.8 pancake while at Sony Style? Also did you bump into Darren Chang?

mastering89: I prefer Fuji Velvia though.

braindead_fr3ak: It's a Sony Alpha NEX. Also bear in mind that it doesn't work with other flashes besides the HVL-F7S currently. This is one hindrance to using it as a full-on dSLR replacement.

lwliam: Nicely done!

When Sony says 25-100mm they mean the equivalent on 35mm - there is no crop factor involved.

For example my WX-1 is rated as 24-120mm F2.4-5.9 but it's really 4.25-21.25mm.

8tvt: Bring it along lah. biggrin.gif

wingster: Eh, you can shoot in the Islamic Arts Museum of Malaysia (I presume that is what you meant?) As when we went for Steve McCurry's thing, and then went around the museum, as far as I know pictures were not allowed.

ieR: You could also lock focus on your future wife and run into the scene. Just remember to be within the plane of focus. I think it should be very possible.

ahpingko: Either you turned off the Audio Signals or you are in AF-C mode.

signither: Don't tell her that you can't see the difference LOL!

signither: Put concealer on your camera. biggrin.gif

ieR: Ah yes! I find the auto-sensing single MS/SD card slot on my NEX-5 to be annoying. It's too big for a MS so you can't put it in as easily as you would on say a dual-slot A550.

Honestly, you might enjoy something like the WX-1 with 24mm equivalent F2.4 lens and Exmor-R backlit CMOS sensor more. The 2100 is the low end with CCD sensor.

And here's the regular miniature look.

d4rkholeang3l: They're mirrored. biggrin.gif

Mikeshashimi: Nice moody puppy shot. You don't usually see shots like these.

ieR: Some Sigma teleconverters also have protruding front elements so it can only fit telephoto lenses.

shootkk: Nicely done, though some touching up could be done.

These, you can pick up now:

I suspect that Canon EF, having electronic aperture control, may pose a bit more of a problem adapting - you won't be able to stop down.

Alternatively if you can't wait you could DIY something like this:

Mechaherc: Click on any camera, then click Color Response - the red channel in particular is different between the D3s and D3x (more like the Sony color response.) The Canon 5DMkII's red channel picks up too much green.

shootkk: You can duplicate a layer, smoothen, and then pull back the opacity - this gives a far more realistic look. I like #2 by the way though not tilted.

ianho: Sweet!

I use Child Priority Face Detection to play "guess who my camera thinks looks younger"!

d4rkholeang3l: It's good but get the HSM OS version - the non-HSM version has some cases of gear stripping.

braindead_fr3ak: The NEX still cannot replace the dSLR for certain applications e.g. when you need bounce flash or wireless flash. So I wouldn't have sold the camera if I were you.

One could get used to the interface, and I don't think it's impossible to make a accessory port to PC Sync/ISO hotshoe adapter.

I bring my dSLR everywhere, by the way!

Str33tBoY: Go down to the pool and take pictures! Don't go further than F16 - you'll get diffraction, a slight softening on the details.

lwliam: I am liking your two recent pictures!

Try laughing instead. It will be contagious.

zstan: If you have the chance to pose them, push the cloth on the right, back a bit. Otherwise I like the color and the realism of the picture!

Mikeshashimi: Problem with compacts is, if you're going somewhere where you can bring the dSLR, you'd do that instead of the compact. You'll probably realize the compact loses colors and dynamic range. As for the dog shot - I use high ISO in daylight to freeze motion.

Uzumaki NaruTo: Eh, hair light is very important! If I had only two lights, I'd have one main light, and one hair light. Or else the hair will blend into the shadows!

achew: Practice at home first with a shiny object - shiny objects are the hardest to shoot while having a good-looking reflection.

zstan: No sensor-shift SteadyShot on the NEX. They have Optical SteadyShot on the Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS and Sony E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Active OSS.

8tvt: The flange distance (from sensor to mount) is different.

zstan: LOL it's not consistent but it's fun nevertheless.

The viewfinder, I find, is of limited use as it goes with the pancake only - the 16mm is so wide you get perspective distortion if you're pointing at say a bicycle lying on a street.

This is perspective distortion - I was standing up and holding the camera at eye level. To reduce perspective distortion, you must adjust the location of the camera so the lines align with the frame.

user posted image

Sony NEX-5, 16mm F2.8 at F4.5, 1/40th of a second.

So in order to straighten the lines, I need to lower the camera. With the optical viewfinder, I need to squat or assume some kung fu stance! People will know if I'm taking a picture of their stuff!

With the flip-out screen, I can just keep standing and look down. Less obvious that I'm taking a picture, especially if I'm walking on the go.

Only if you're some traditional old-school fella you might prefer the optical viewfinder - otherwise, Live View is great!

(On a side note - notice the different shades of greens that the NEX-5 is capable of expressing. It has a pretty darn good color response!

5564321: Confirmed with my LA-EA1 adapter - it's MF only.

Flourescent bulbs are about 4500K M6.

Uzumaki NaruTo: It really could just cost you a few HVL-F42AM flashes. biggrin.gif They're portable but you need the stands and light modifiers (softbox, barndoor, honeycomb) to make it look good.

mastering89: Nice iPhone shot!

zstan: LOL looks like alphabet soup!

Ouch what a splash. Always survey your area for possible hazards.

ieR: I'm on a IBM CRT which uses a Trinitron tube. I can also see the different colors on my office laptop. Both are calibrated using the Windows 7 calibration wizard.

There are colder greens on the left in the shadow, and yellower greens rising above on the left.

Uzumaki NaruTo: You mean lights on lightstands? Or flashes on lightstands?

boyzone: Open the card slot - it's SD and MS. biggrin.gif

ahpingko: In Windows 7, right-click the desktop, Personalize, click Display under "See also" on the left. Then click "Calibrate color" on the left.

Make sure you keep the lighting in the same condition as you would normally use it.

Kul | Mo0: It sure is cheaper than a Samyang 8mm F3.5 even! However you need the pancake to use it. I wonder though, whether the adapter would look alright on the 18-55mm.

mastering89: It's a bayonet mounted fisheye that clips onto the front of the 16mm. So it does not have a filter size.

user posted image
Left: Sony Alpha NEX-5 with LA-EA1 lens adapter; obviously the A-mount is wider than the E-mount, as you can see the Sony E 16mm F2.8 (and VCL-ECF1 fisheye converter) on it.
Top-right: The underside of the VCL-ECF1 fisheye converter; it has a bayonet mount and clicks on snugly to the Sony E 16mm F2.8's bayonet front. I forgot to try putting a 49mm filter on the 16mm to see if the VCL-ECF1 fisheye converter could still mount!
Bottom-right: The LA-EA1 lens adapter allows full aperture control but definitely no AF with screw-drive lenses. I did not fully mount it yet hence the rotation.

ianho: Do you have a 3D TV? I haven't seen 3D Sweep Panorama which is not a simulated demo, yet! (Also, must be damn fun to watch World Cup Finals in 3D...)

braindead_fr3ak: Congratulations!

Ah hao, welcome!

ianho: Wah same as mine! Pity the Hoya HD filters don't come in 49mm and it's hard to come by B+W filters in 49mm size.

Does the fisheye adapter fit on, with this filter attached?

My black NEX-5 with LA-EA1 lens adapter and Zeiss 135mm F1.8. A fair bit too long to be used comfortably - I prefer the 50mm as it's pocketable.

Uzumaki NaruTo: Heh, the flash even gets a shadow when using the fisheye converter on the 16mm!

ianho: Argh, just as I thought.

mastering89: Optical quality is about the same for the Hoya HD, B+W and Zeiss. Though the Zeiss is not rated to be scratch proof nor easy to clean.

And yes, the Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM should perform well as a video lens. It's smaller than the Zeiss 135mm F1.8 yo!
