I manage to screenshot my screen while I'm doing it for future reference, sometimes I forgot how to do it again  biggrin.gif

You need to downgrade to 1.6 first

1) Download the flasher here http://www-stud.uni-due.de/~sfanmakr/X10Fl...10Flash-2.1.zip
2) Download 1.6 Firmware http://rapidshare.com/files/432487345/E15i_1.6.rar and 2.1 firmware http://www.mediafire.com/?vkjdu0m2ramajng
3) Next, put the 1.6 & 2.1 Firmware inside the flasher folder

4) Run the flasher by clicking on x10flash.bat and click flash

5) Select 1.6 Firmware and click ok

6) The flasher "searching for Xperia". Turn off your phone. Hold down the back button and connect the USB to your phone while holding back button. Once start flashing, release the back button.
7) Downgrade to 1.6 done. Now turn on your phone, it may take a while for it to load. You need to root the 1.6, I assume you all already know how to root 1.6. So I'll skip this part.
8) Next, download this 2 files http://pashkovsky.com/x8/x8-2.1rooted.img.yaffs.rar & http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment...19&d=1292599074
9) Inside x8-2.1rooted.img.yaffs.rar contains x8rooted.img while ISO-8859-1__unyaffs-arm.rar contains busybox and unyaffs. Copy x8rooted.img, busybox and unyaffs to your SDcard.
10) Next, open CMD (command prompt), change directory to the flasher folder. Follow the picture below.
user posted image
11) Once completed, your phone will hang, force close error. Turn off your phone by removing the battery.
user posted image
12) Go to 2.1 firmware folder. Remove system.sin. Copy loader.sin from 1.6 firmware to 2.1 folder
user posted image
13) Run the flash again, this time select 2.1 firmware

14) While your phone turn off, Hold down the back button and connect the USB to your phone while holding back button. Once start flashing, release the back button.

That's all. You'll have 2.1 rooted. In case you have failed, go back to step no.4  biggrin.gif
If I miss anything, feel free to add it or modify this guide. Have fun rooting.  smile.gif

Great stuff! This make me want to try to root it! biggrin.gif

No help on the Papago issue. Sorry.

For the camera app, I suppose when you long pressed the camera button, it will asked you for your default action? There you can set it as default camera app.

hye guys need to know

i want to buy x8
x8 can do auto download like iphone? bill increase suddenly
should i added 3g/broadband plan at my phone line?

sweat.gif
*
Android/Xperia X8 can easily disable data traffic so no problem with the auto download thingy. But also have to be aware of the possible data download, though once the data traffic is disabled then should be no problem.

Actually I think iPhone can have the data traffic disabled as well, no?

i wanted to learn

ya and can someone give me a review about the battery ?how long does it last ?
*
Battery is definitely one of the weak point for this phone, if you use it normally without gaming and data download, it could last you perhaps 1 day plus. Else, it hardly last you for 1 day. Unless I am doing something wrong with my phone.

Will try it out, though I am always on the second level of brightness in the pre-set screen brightness option in power control widget, not sure how many percent brightness is that.

i believe those app running in background might also effect on battery life as well.

and i don't understand, x8 is equip with light sensor right? how to enable/disable/set auto it?
*
Ya, probably, but I heard those app killer drain the battery even faster, so I am in trial stage without those app killer. Yup, light sensor is there, but I don't think we can turn it off, I admit it's quite annoying especially when the brightness of the environment keep changing.

Should be no problem. The battery need at least 5 full charge cycles to have full potential.

Just got my X8 yesterday biggrin.gif Still playing around with it. Is there any GPS like Garmin for android?
*
Yes and No. There is Garmin for Android but only exclusively for Garmin Android phone. Use Papago X5 as I think it has the best map from malfreemap so far.

Heard that 2.2 is not coming to X8,but smaller update will(multitouch maybe???) is this fact right?
*
Most likely it won't since X10 not going to get that officially. Smaller update can be expected but I don't think multi-touch is there, though it will be good if they update it for us.

I heard that this phone battery runs out quickly. Does anyone know if we don't on wifi and use alot app , how long can the battery last?
*
Which kind of apps? If you talk about gaming, it can easily drop to less than 70% for a full 2 hours gaming. Have to charge it almost everyday.

I know, but if you notice, even if you put the full size image without cropping, you cant get the whole image.
I tried to create a wallpaper of 320 x 480, but the crop box wont allow me to select the whole picture. It seems like the crop box maximum size is 320  x 240.
*
You can actually resize the crop box by touching the side and slide.

I know we can resize the crop box. But even if I select the whole image, which mean I already resize the crop box to the maximum, I cant get the whole image to be displayed as my wallpaper.
*
Do you use any homescreen replacement software? If you do, check the option to slide the wallpaper when you slide to different widgets page. Android has a multiple homescreen system which will distribute the entire wallpaper to all pages. If you have a static wallpaper (doesn't slide with your homescreen), I don't think you can see the entire wallpaper, it will still be cropped. But do correct me if I am wrong.

Confirm the rooting works, very easy. Now trying App2SD, hopefully not so complicated.

Yesterday just got myself a weird acting X8 (all programs lost) after the App2SD failed to find busybox during the installation of App2SD (I think Titanium is using it at the moment I install), and got it reformatted.

Gonna try the second time today.

X8 definitely has compass hardware. Go download GPS Status from the market, besides boosting your GPS signal, it does show you the compass.

Price:Quality soso la, how much can u expect for a budget phone?

is the andriod 2.1 or 1.7?
*
Quality wasn't that bad actually, not top notch of course. Currently running 2.1, and most likely that will be the last, unless SE change their mind.

There is also a chance that X8 have some kind of software-level dual touch update in the future.

AP phone also can upgrade? i just bought edi, i feel 2.1 will be smoother than 1.6,

how about the back cover? can it be bought to change the colour, as AP phones does not provide u with colour selection
*
Why not? AP phone is still an original phone, it's just that the warranty not handled by the SE authorized companies - they are still the same phone. But yeah, AP doesn't seems to give extra back covers, that's where the cost cut though.
