Live Action Blue Beetle Test Images

Images from a special effects test for a live-action Blue Beetle have debuted online, courtesy of DC Comics' Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

Johns just updated his official blog with the images below and the following note:

"I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Blue Beetle’s introduction way back in INFINITE CRISIS. I’ve said it before, but thanks to the BLUE BEETLE series launched by Keith Giffen and John Rogers with a great design by Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes rocks. Great character, great story, great look. He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground and a lot of people to jump on board…but check out some stills."

Would this adaptation be able to become the successor to be Smallville or even Supernatural on CW? Warner owns DC anyway, so the CW network would be the more logical choice.

Hopefully it won't be as cheesy as the first Guyver movie, and hopefully will be slightly more heavier in tone somewhat akin to the earlier millennium renewal of the kamen rider franchise ( me = avid fan), or well, just somewhat in the vein of both Smallville and Supernatural would be good enough.

Blue Beetle is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, produced by DC Studios and The Safran Company. The film was directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. It is the 14th installment of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).[a] The film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle alongside Bruna Marquezine, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez.

Development of a film featuring Reyes began by the end of November 2018 with Dunnet-Alcocer attached. Soto was hired to direct the film in February 2021 for the streaming service HBO Max. Maridueña was cast that August, and the film was changed to have a theatrical release in December. Further casting took place in early 2022, before filming took place from late May to mid-July at Wilder Studios in Decatur, Georgia, as well as in El Paso, Texas, and Puerto Rico.

Blue Beetle premiered in El Paso, Texas on August 15, 2023, and was released in the United States on August 18, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Maridueña's performance.

Well, 2023 summer blockbuster had be... a rollercoaster ride.

Many many BIG productions turns out to be duds...

DC this year is probably still riling from, how hard The Flash bomb after the reviewers calling it the greatest super heroes movie made!

It BOMB spectacularly... (I did not think it was that bad. The production cost was way too high and the lead... Just had too many bad reporting prior...)

Even before Blue Beetle had launched there are soundbites saying this would bomb even harder...

I would like to ask, how to you even have an opinion about something if you have not even seen it? Can clairvoyance be true??

I have watched this and I can tell you this is a GOOD superhero movie.

Is it Avengers Infinity War level good?

It took Marvels many a movies to build up to Avengers Infinity War, that is NOT EVEN A FAIR comparison...

Think more along the lines of watching Iron man for the first time. You don't know what to expect and you were taken for a grand ride.

I am not suggesting this gives you the same feeling.

How can it possibly do that with all the superheroes movie released since Iron Man.

I am saying that it is an origins movie and should be judge on it's own merit.

Xolo Maridueña (what a name) does good.

I will award him the "most embarrassing super hero moment" award!!


Susan Sarandon does a good meanie

And this movie really show Fast and Furious and Shazam what it means to be a family.

I really enjoyed this.

Give this a chance and who knows, maybe you will enjoy it too!

And its already the hit now while competing with another adaptation from game Gran Turismo hahahaha

Just watched it. To be honest, it's the worst superhero movie I've ever seen.

My rating is 3/10. Why I gave 3? 3 good things about this movie:

1) The Blue Beetle & the villain costumes. It looks cool.
2) The beetle spaceship
3) the evil lady acting skill.

The rest of the movie is like a fucking joke. It's not funny at all. Cheesy storyline. I cringe & keep rolling my eyes frequently when watching this movie.

I always throw my brain out of the theatre hall every single time I watched superhero movies, but I can't tolerate with this movie. It's worst than Black Adam. Even the recent The Flash movie is 20 times better than this.

That Jenny girl like a headless chicken lady that have no idea what she needs to do in this movie.

Save your money and wait for the movie to be released online.

Yes.

I feel like waste money paid RM20 for this movie.

Main character is a college graduate, but behave like someone still in high school.

It's boring and feels like watching a C/D grade movie.
