Anyone here stream HD MKV movies to their XBOX? After figuring out how to do it on the PC side, technically everything is in order..but there is a problem. It seems the XBOX keeps disconnecting when using the MCE on the XBOX when browsing through the files etc....i think this is a problem of XBOX having problems when there is too many files...i tried sharing a single folder and file and it seems to work....all in all, it's a bloody nightmare trying to stream movies to XBOX!!

Anyone having the same problem??

Although now i have a WDTV Live, which does the job perfectly...i still wanna know why it didn't work on the XBOX!

Ermm...

It is:

XBOX 360 -- Router -- PC

PC only have Windows Firewall(Already check Media Extender) in Firewall Exception list

Should I set Auto or Manual in XBOX? I tried both.

The only thing haven't try is direct connect XBOX to PC.

What else should I tell?

since when did you have 360??

check firewall and put 360 IP in DMZ.
then enable this port:
Port that need to be opened
but i thought MKV can't be streams using MCE? only can be used by 3rd party application such as TVersity, etc.
if your PC is able to handle HD playback and you have dvi/hdmi port on the graphic card, i would suggest connect from PC straight to TV and playback by Media Player Classic. 360, Media Player, and Media Center all will output graphic that i feel not sharp enough..

I never had any problems streaming movies from my PC with Tversity. I used MCE before but it was too restricted when it comes to folder sharing.

By the way, I don't think xbox can play MKV files, not with MCE and with Tversity in realtime encoding mode.

You can stream HD MKV vids to 360 if you're using Windows 7 MCE with the DivX Tech Plus Preview. No high spec pc required, I've tried this feature sometime ago. More info here: http://labs.divx.com/mkvwin7preview nod.gif

yup you can use the latest divx with win7 mce or you can use ps3media server. don't let the name fool you. works with the xbox360 too.

Huh? Since early this year i think. LOL.

MKV is now streamable with the DIVX PLus, it evens provides DXVA hardware acceleration and use very little CPU power. Friend, if connecting PC directly to TV is an option, i wouldn't be buying a media player or try to stream movies...doh.gif ...My PC is outside of the room, no way i'm gonna lay a fugly thick HDMI cable all over the place.

And yes, streaming quality actually sucks. I use my WDTV Live to watch movies using a LAN cable...stream MKV perfectly without transcoding, but just curious to what went wrong with the XBOX.

probably router or firewall denying the access. just do the DMZ, open port, and firewall to have a smooth streaming.
360 quality sucks, 360 ain't a XBMC. tongue.gif

Suggestion:
Perhaps, you should considure using FreeNAS as an alternative to your current MCE?

It works for me with Xbox. icon_rolleyes.gif
