i was planning to get the toilet mat. but im worried that it will filter the poo and all. i had it on another cage for my abbys. they started bitting after awhile and made a big whole in the middle. what do you suggest? ive observed him for awhile now. he seems alright with the cage floor currently thou.

  uuhhhh.. Hi All,

I am planning to keep a hamster as pet after reading some of the post here. Sounds interesting and thrill.

But... I have some doubt need to be clear first in case the little cute thing suffer because of me..... 

1) Can gps (guinie pigs right ? not garmin...) survive 2-3 days alone in his/her cage if the owner not around at home ? With ample food and water...cause I usually go back hometown during weekend...
ya..like emino said..i think 2 days 1 night is the max with a looooot of hay! But bear in mind they need water supply also. In my case my Toffy drink a lot of water everyday compared to others. so you really need someone to at least be there and monitor their food and water supply.

2) TobbyChan, how soon are you expecting your gps babies ? Are you selling any ?
hmm..not sure how long until Minnie deliver. But you can check out pet store/ adoption section.

3) How much is a gps cage ??? I think the most expensive item is the cage

Any questions a new comer need to consider before commiting to one ? 

How long have Minie's been pregnant? If quite long already (more than 2 months), you better put them at saperate cage first. After she give birth, When you give them floor time, you just put them together and keep monitor them by preventing them to fight....Do that several times until they don't fight. Usually if piggies that has been saperate for quite some times, they tend to protect their territory, even for female (thats what i think)... This happens to my piggies all the time. After awhile they will get along edi.

yea happen to mine gal gal last time.. but it was the other way around.. gal gal attack choco..one question for u.. who is coming to whose cage? i mean toffy coming to minie cage or the other way around.. normally is becos territorial... one way to solve it is to bring out the two of them and take a bleach  or vinegar solution and clean the cage thoroughly then only put them both together... tis is to removed all territory.. do make sure the cage is big enough..

gp dont eat their babies .. even the father will help out but he will always mengatal.. which is not advisable ...

if thy do get along u can mix them, if they dont get along after all.. terpaksa separate liao lor.. pra-pregnancy lpiggies is emo a bit punya..  , actually the other female wont be help much in the feeding department jus tat the young piggy will learn from a senior faster--> such as drinking from bottle, wat is nice to eat , where to pee and poo etc..

Yah I agree with Xavi there... It's good for the young once easier to pick up what to eat, where to poo, where to pee etc from cage mate...

Another thing is, best to thoroughly clean the cage and get rid of all smells... Then when the both smell the same, they go back to cage, the cage become a "new" place and "new" territory for them both altogether... Then better chance of getting along

As I notice my two boys, never been separated b4, whenever I clean up their cage, even without thoroughly cleaning, ie juz change all the newspapers and the towel(their base), they get back to cage as if it's brand new... run around smelling everywhere to check territory...

If after bath also no see them like that coz probably is after shock... haha

When I thoroughly clean up the cage... They go berserk and popcorn like mad... like move to new house feel like that...

This is my experience on their behaviour lo... So if two boys can get along, not too hard for two females to get along too... 

ur boys belum tercium female scent yet .. once tercium. . will be sworn enemy at sight.. like my timmy and teddy. .

once a week but sometimes can extend to 3 week if i m lazy by jus topping up a layer of morning towel on the bedding... no smell as all pee and poo is done in the toilet.. the toilet need to be change twice a week...

if ur pig is toilet trained by 60% then C&C is the way to go keep ur pig clean.. but if ur pig aint toilet train cage with tray will do

yea.. unless u got at least 2x6 or 4x6 cage kot.. 2x4 cage i tried d.. still kacau..

teddy is a huge piggy .. humaiera    seeing him.. scare he "eat" her baby.. so take up timmy instead.. hahahaha
