Let's not bash that "other" game even if you're not that excited about going through a Gene Simmons led story mode.

The core gameplay in "normal" mode looks exactly the same as the core rock band platform apart from the obvious additions such as the keyboard and vocal harmonies (which we already saw in TB:RB). So for guitarists and bassists, it's still going to be the five fret gameplay that we all know and love. For drums, i believe you should still be able to play on 4 drum pads since they already announced backwards compatibility with RB1 and 2 equipment.

The addition of the "pro" modes just means that you get more options in the way you play the game (casual/hardcore). It means that for someone like me (competent gamer but failed musician) it just the extra push that i need to progress to the next level (ie playing real music). So yes I seriously want that Squier Strat as well!

The fact that you can use your own midi equipment with the game through a midi adapter shows how Harmonix are really more about the gameplay and the music rather than gimmicks.

@ Ramz, I think most people have been disappointed with the GH games especially in the last few years. The trouble is that most casual gamers especially in our region go straight for the guitar hero game because they have more exposure. It's just easier to buy GH than it is RB. And i believe that even if GH6 is a rubbish game, it'll still sell.

Yeah, the fact that they pretty much low balling RB for Asian consoles (RB 1 only after a year and RB 2 still no show although TB:RB and GD:RB are region-free) doesn't help them much.

Now i'm a bit interested. Being a wannabe-musician(one that is vely crap), i find pushing yellow, red, green, blue buttons on guitar shaped controllers is a joke. Now finally, you can actually use a real guitar(of sorts).

Is there adaptor that can plug in a real guitar or real keyboard/digital piano??

If yes, I'M SOLD!

you can't plug in a real guitar or keyboard (most probably), but the guitar and keyboard provided by Rockband can be plugged into a device made by madcatz then can act as a real thing.

i feel the same joke too. when i first started getting indulge with gh people who not into gh laugh at me saying its not a real guitar. i use to fight back saying you play fps u not holding a real gun either. but after many gaming months later, u start to feel that u are no near a musician than u were before. and holding that guitar start to make u feel really silly. although fps u not holding a gun, but if u play well people get impressed but they don't expect u to be good in a real gun. but if u hold a plastic guitar and play well, first they not so impressed, and 2nd they ask if u can play the real guitar.

WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!

rclxms.gif

My digital piano is a bit too clunky to connect and move....looks like I'm not going to sell my portable CASIO Keyboard yet!!!

But i can't connect my real guitar coz it's not MIDI enabled...but the guitar is not that expensive me thinks...USD 150...roughly RM 600. Reasonable price to pay for something that can function as a game controller and MIDI guitar!!!

When is the release date? Cannot wait!!!

Added on June 18, 2010, 6:24 pm
Video showing the new features of RB3, including the Mad Catz guitar and Fender Squier Strat simultaneous play with the game and with amp.

Nice, you can import songs from RB1, RB2, Lego RB and Green Day RB into RB3, plus the DLCs.

That's too many songs.
Imagine if you have all the DLC and the games, that's more than 1.5k songs O_O

I'm guessing it's going to be the same price or more expensive than the rockband fender strat controller. and that's USD299.99 last i checked.

Now this is going to be a usable guitar, and the cheapest bullet strat from squier already costs USD199.99. It's going to be out of reach of the casual gamer for sure.

@trogdor, I already have 270 songs on rock band and since we don't have rock band 2 navigating the song list is such a pain. I'm really looking forward to the new sorting and filtering features.

Okay, RB3 is sorted out then and we're definitely getting it.
And RB2 import feature will mean we get to play those songs as well.

None of this matters if we can't even load the RB2 game to import the songs T_T
Unless it will work like Guitar Hero 5's import system that doesn't even require the discs. Let's pray that it does.

i wish d keyboard has 4 octaves. u can't really simulate 2 hands gameplay with 2 octaves. something must give. just try to play 2 hands with 2 octaves. it feels like playing on my kids toy piano. its near impossible. so much about making it close to the real thing.

Yeah but 4 octaves would be a LOT of notes to have to concentrate on, unless they give you live streaming score to read, and that is stupid hard.

There's quite a lot of news filtering out about rock band 3 so here's another interview from plastic axe detailing pro-drums gameplay,

http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/06/11/exclu...unctionality/2/

Now this is a pretty cool piece of news, apparently the majority of existing dlc already recognises the difference between toms and cymbals, so if you have a selection of DLC you'll already be getting a whole bunch of songs with pro functionality for the drums.

Since plasticaxe isn't one of the big sites, i don't really want to copy and paste the whole article and deprive them of a clickthrough. So just click on the link. pls?

Megadeth's Peace Sells and Rust in Peace >_>
Also Metallica's Blackened lolimpossible solo and the Joe Satriani pack.

Added on June 23, 2010, 1:28 pmSorry for the double-post.

I just found out there won't be a strum limit like there was in RB1(dunno about RB2 though). I can finally get around to FCing Green Grass and High Tides(lol)

And it's out!

And it's awesome!

edit: Collection of random thoughts.

Didn't get enough time to try everything out. New for us is access to RBN - that's another 600+ songs in addition to the 2000 already available to us on DLC.

Cool thing is, previous DLC and on disc exports also count as goals and achievements which is a neat touch.

Don't forget to get your copy before the 1st of November because the offer for the 3 Doors songs will expire then. Buying the game between now and Nov 1 gets you Light my fire, Touch me and Riders on the Storm for FREE. You buy it through the ingame music store. FOR FREE. NAO.

No loading times between songs! Well they have animated transitions, but these actually con you into thinking there are no loading times. Great stuff.

For those of us still on RB1, we finally get proper sorting options for song lists.

RB2 import too, go out look for friends in the States or wherever and import your RB2 songs, it's about damn time we get to play Almost Easy.
Anyone played Llama on drums yet? Apparently it's ridiculous. Doesn't look THAT hard imo though >_>

Yep, version i got was ntsc-j from GH.. what was surprising was that it had RBN in the music store which i thought was just US exclusive.

I can finally wave goodbye to rockband from my gamercard.. it's been there too long lol

Gamer's Hideout told me that the keyboard bundle is region locked (ntsc-u) so they stopped accepting pre-orders for it. However, they will be selling the keyboards seperately for asia region.

Thanks for that piece of news. thumbup.gif

Next question on my mind would be whether the hardware is region-locked? From what was posted above, it would seem that the keyboards are. If that is the case, then it could be another long wait for the Asian version. *sigh*

I think you may have misread what i posted. The keyboard itself is not region locked. It's just that the keyboard bundle is only available for the US - ie it comes with a US version of the game. In asia, you can buy the keyboard and the game seperately. I'll be picking mine up when it ships to GH and playing it on my asian RB3. Controllers are never region locked. There's no technology out there to lock them to specific regions.

Speaking of which, i kinda like how the road challenges are tailored to the type of DLC that you already have in your system. So far, I've played lego rock band, queen, foo fighters and bob marley challenges on RB3 as part of the world tour. Finally got my lazy ass in gear and exported Green Day: Rock Band onto RB3 so I'm quite curious to see how that expands the challenges. One thing for sure, after years of going through songs on the rock band 1 playlist its nice to have better sorting options for my 400 songs on RB3.

Hmm if I get that then...

1. I'd finally have a real guitar(that works) of my own, which I've been meaning to get for a long time.
2. I'd be able to play Pro guitar which will help me learn more songs(I mean I'm decent at guitar but still, learning tool is learning tool)
3. I get the MIDI adapter so I can use my real keyboard for RB3.

Ok thanks for the clarification. However, wonder why GH stopped accepting orders. I can confirm that the US version of the game works on Asian console as well, so technically RB3 US version is NOT region-locked. Probably GH couldnt confirm it at the time and didnt want to risk it.

Well as far as peripherals go all hardware is region free IIRC.
Also US version is unlocked? OH GEE, IT'S NOT LIKE THEY COULD HAVE DONE THAT FOR RB1 AND 2.

My theory is that all Rock Band related Xbox Live downloads(including the RB2 import) is all region free, as before RB1's release I was getting ready by downloading all the DLC I could, it all worked.
Same goes for Beatles Rock Band DLC and AC/DC import(which I took from an Australian copy)

It's not, it's just that it's pretty much the same franchise and all, so I'm only saying that theoretically it should share similarities in that respect, basically all the XBL content.

But can anyone try the RB2 import anyway? I have a friend in the States who's giving me his code YES PANIC ATTACK MASTER EXPLODER YUSSSSSS

You can import your RB2 songs. All you need is just the code behind the manual (the same code you use for the free 20 songs).
No disc required.

playin and loving the character creation for RB3
but the only problem I find is a way to get some of the items as some items are only unlockable with some other peripherals and some needed more than 1 person to achieve it

Added on November 10, 2010, 7:58 pmHey guys, RB2 codes are free.

Just tell them you lost your manual and they'll just send you a brand new code. You still have to pay the $10 import fee though.

DjiNn once said I think that they're getting it some time this month over at Gamer's Hideout, idk.
If I'm not mistakened it should be RM150-200. I do hope that's the case, then I don't need to waste money on a brand new much smaller keyboard when I have a full-fledged MIDI one >_>

Say, has anyone gotten their hands on the Mustang Pro Guitars? There was a Black Friday sale recently on the MadCatz website where you got one for $150 and a free Fender P-Bass. Good deal, I just didn't like the Fender bass(ahemiwasbrokeahem)

I'm not sure about RB guitars but I'm pretty sure they've got Guitar Hero ones(which are much superior, go for the GH5/WoR design)

Hmm im not really keen on the gh guitar since it makes that plastic-ish sound when you fret it but the WOR design has gotten my attention smile.gif.
Any idea as to how much the wor standalone guitar retails for?

Hi, they posted on 2nd december on their facebook page that they do have the RB3 telecasters on sale. You should check with them. They also have keyboards in stock and cymbal kits in stock.

While i started with GH guitars, i prefer the RB3 guitars now but i suppose that this comes down to personal preference.

Yeah, but generally the majority of GH/RB players play on GH guitars mainly because I'd personally say they're much more responsive, RB guitars never pick up fast streams and solos are pretty much impossible on them.
But I guess if you're playing on easy/medium it wouldn't really matter, they all essentially play out the same. But basically I wouldn't get it if I were out to maintain a steady combo.

Also loldog, RB frets are way way worse than GH frets. RB frets are incredibly noise and they're uncomfortably big, basically meaning half the time you might not even be able to hold down a note.

I'll say it looks much much better than the first few RB guitars, but it looks pretty expensive and unless you have the funds I'll still highly suggest against it.
RB guitars are generally good for casual players, but imo you will get better after playing for a while and once you start playing on expert it's gonna really test your patience.

I know the GH5 and WoR guitars may look and feel like kids' toys, but believe me when I say they are definitely the better controller in the long run. I've got both the GH5 and RB1 guitars, the RB1 guitar is really only there for when I have friends or family that come over to play on easy/medium, even then they eventually start to want to play on my GH5 guitar.

But again as Kidicarus said it does come down to personal preference at the end of the day. While the GHtars feel more sturdy and responsive, if you grow into Rock Band and Guitar Hero with the RBtars you might eventually not ever be able to FC anything on GHtars.

I see alright then, cause my last guitar(or more specifically my only guitar controller)was the world tour guitar and i didnt really like that one, so i was thinking of making the switch from gh guitars to rb ones.

World Tour guitar naturally sucks tongue.gif
Especially since the strum bar on that one is really really bad, and it also dies out after a while(mine couldn't strum up anymore).

GH5 guitar the frets and slider are pretty much the same, except the strum bar feels and performs much much better. To me, that's the perfect controller, so I'd say give that a shot.

Generally, RB1 guitars suck. Anything after that is miles ahead in terms of build quality and playability.

Been playing on the gretsch guitar for a year and I love it. The strum bar is generally quieter so you can actually hear the music and the neck is not as fat which for me is far more comfortable to hold over an extended period of time. Also, the flat fret buttons makes it easier for my fingers to slide from button to button. I can't agree with you on the noise levels as well. While the RB1 guitars were quite noisy, the frets on the newer guitars are a lot quieter. Also, if you are achievement whoring, you will not be able to use the digital touchpad on the GH guitars for the solos on RB3 which is the game that you'll keep playing more in the long term.

I play on expert so and while my skill level is not what you would consider a pro player, any mistakes made usually come from not being able to keep up with the charts and not from hardware. While they are both toy controllers, i feel the RB guitars feel less toylike than the GH ones.

But seriously, not being able to hold down a note? Are your fingers really that weak?

The only reason why most players play GH guitars is because they were the only ones available for the longest time.

As far as I remember the WT and GH5 guitar are all the same except the strum bar.
The WT strummer was lolbad, it was plastic so your hand could slip off and you would accidentally strum twice. Although I have a slight soft spot for it since I FCed Welcome to the Jungle on GH3 with it.
The mechanism itself is horrible though, it's weak and after a while it could just outright die.
When it works, it works, but meh.

Imo GH5's strummer really makes it worthwhile though, like I said it's my dream controller.

Haven't touched my GH5 controller since i got my Gretsch but i find the finishing on the GH5 guitar really bad. After 3 months all the paint on the pick guard area was gone leaving a black patch. It's collecting dust at home now.

Seriously loldog, why don't you just give GH a call and they will tell you on the spot rather than asking on the forums whether the guitar is available? their number is 03-77252775

edit: WT guitar is bad. Though better than RB1 guitar but worse than the later edition RB guitars.

It's the strumbar, I've played on the RB2 one once. Being quiet is good and all, but if it feels like peanut butter then it can go eat a couch for all I care.
It's not that it's been available for the longest time, hardcore GH gaming only really took off with GH3 which is when RB1 came out.
Also I honestly cbf with achievements, my RB3 goals would really be just getting gold stars and FCs, climbing up the leaderboards and stuff.
And I hate the solo buttons and slider bar on each RB and GH guitar, they're pointless tbqh. Purple notes can go make me a sammich.

I guess you could call me "pro" seeing as I go for FCs and try to combo every hard solo(though my best achievement was FCing Beast and the Harlot on Smash Hits >_>b), which I guess is why I prefer GHtars more.
My definition of a good controller is something that is ultra-responsive and reads everything I do up to 10000 miles per hour, but if I were playing the game just for fun and stuff I wouldn't have too much of a problem with RB guitars.

Loldog I'd suggest that you try both imo, I come from the more competitive side and who knows, you might find fun with the RB guitars.

First impression of the Mad Catz Mustang

user posted image
Size comparison with the Mad Catz Fender Telecaster and 360 controller.

1. It's light, not much heavier than the Telecaster but more so compared to the Hofner Bass from Beatles:RB.

2. The fretboard buttons are all the same size, no problems if you're moving from the 5-button RB/GH guitars to it. Those familiar with a guitar will take some time getting used to it.

3. Strumming strings are nylon I believe, very sensitive. They give 2 Medium Fender picks.

4. The Fretboard module is modular and removable, hopefully anyone would be able to buy a replacement fretboard in the future if its busted.

IMHO, the Mustang is great for anyone who has no real guitar experience and wanting to move up from Standard to Pro Guitar mode. Those who have guitar playing experience might want to wait for the Fender RB3 Squier Strat instead. Because the strings and buttons are all the same size, finger placement takes a bit of training to get used to since you can't differentiate between strings based on feel alone.

I'm looking to add friends i can go online with on rock band 3. I have 400+ songs now with DLC, RB1, Green Day and Lego all imported into RB3. I'm a decent but not great expert player on guitar/bass, crap at drums, mediocre on expert keys, hard vocals should be doable. So if you like what you read and want to jam sometime add me.

And help keep this thread bumped!

Saw that, I just wonder how many guitar pro mode players there are out there based on the availability of the instruments. On a personal note, I'm glad they are able to update the legacy DLC (since I have 6 of the songs listed above) instead of duplicate entries in the song list like they did for bon jovi and queen recently.

Also, are you using a mail forwarding service to get your squier? If so, which one are you using?

Played through a few songs. sweat.gif

The good? Feels much much better than the Mustang. Chord transition is smooth since you don't get gaps on the "string" like on the Mustang. Easier to tell which string your fingers are on as well as which string you're strummin.

The bad? Makes you wanna play all songs on Expert. tongue.gif sweat.gif LoL
Seriously, the frets are rough, like there's a layer of oxidation on it. String bending feels weird as the strings would catch on the sensors on the fret.

But oh the joy of strumming on real strings.... biggrin.gif

Thanks for sharing MK. I take it you have some fundamental basics in playing a real guitar.

in your opinion, would it be difficult for someone with zero real-guitar experience/knowledge to pick up and play the Pro mode on the Squier?

From what i understand, it should be doable with 0 real guitar xp to pick up pro mode on the easier difficulty levels. I suspect though, while RB3 pro mode might give someone the dexterity for chord shapes and to learn timing, without proper guidance a beginner might pick up some bad habits which might be difficult to correct at a later stage.

Thanks for sharing MK. I take it you have some fundamental basics in playing a real guitar.

in your opinion, would it be difficult for someone with zero real-guitar experience/knowledge to pick up and play the Pro mode on the Squier?
*
Played on and off when I was in secondary school thats about it. I'd say yeah you can pick up Pro mode with zero xp, the tutorials and learn a song feature helps, but IMO best way to learn a song is still pick up the tab and start playing.

Nope, you ain't getting nothin' outta me. BlacktriX can play reeltar, I'm gonna go make a sammich
Credit where it's due, the RB chart for plastic guitar looks way better than the GH3 chart imo, but nothing can match up to the Smash Hits chart in terms of fun-ness.

All the good GH songs are coming over to RB tbh, good stuff imo.
Major kudos to Harmonix for life, but personal opinion I still prefer Guitar Hero's instruments and the guitar engine in general.
Today I was raging at RB3, trying to FC Master Exploder, HOPOs are just way too weird, but it might just be that I'm too used to Guitar Hero.

Well yeah I'm supporting Rock Band forever now, but I'd still buy a new Guitar Hero if it ever comes out. RIP.

What I'd really like though is for the rumoured Master of Puppets to finally surface on RB(not just the song, the whole album). Damage, Inc. and Leper Messiah need to be done. They just have to.

I got problem with my RB drum.. Sometime when playing the song, one of the drum will suddenly dont detect my hit.. Can someone help me on this? Is it due to the game itself or is it somethin wrong with my RB drum? My RB drum is not the wireless one..and i play RB3.. have anyone experiencing something similar?

I saw the midi adaptor at Gamer's hideout.

@esjates RB1 drums not working is not software related. It could be you're not hitting the sweet spot properly or it could be mechanical failure.

Since I've been baited to post, stuff that was released yesterday:

Pantera DLC Pack Coming on May 19th

Pantera – Walk *
Pantera – Five Minutes Alone *
Pantera – I’m Broken
Pantera – Mouth for War

Also Peter Frampton – Do You Feel Like We Do (Live)

* means pro guitar upgrade if you feel like torturing yourself.

You can check out Gamer's Hideout at e@curve. I saw a set there just last week. Give them a call.

Since I'm not imba enough to bump my own threads here's this weeks dlc

Lady Gaga Pack 02 - 440 MSP
• Lady Gaga – “Born This Way”
• Lady Gaga – “LoveGame”
• Lady Gaga – “Paparazzi”

• Foreigner – “Hot Blooded” X
• Foreigner – “Urgent” X

Two new pro upgrade options will also be added to tracks that are already available in the Store for the usual price of 80 MSP. These are:

Asked them before and as expected they said it was discontinued so they can't really get it. Perhaps their suppliers are really out of stock or maybe I wasn't persistent enough unsure.gif

The box.

Clear caution on the box for XBOX users. Apparently the in-store demo units in Best Buy has working navigation feature for their XBOX 360s.

user posted image
How it's packed. That's it besides a few spacers. No foam support or bubble wrap. If you intend to ship this from US I would suggest paying extra and get your shipping agent to pack the box with extra bubble wrap or foam.

*
Do you still have that ?
