Zstan is right on the dot. It is the bond that you should be thinking. For overseas, I think it is worth it despite the 6 years bond. But for local, with the 4 years bond, I am not too sure.
Look at the fees you have to pay and consider PTPTN as option. No bond and you can pay over time.
I was informed that nowadays, even engineering graduates may find difficulty in getting a job. So, getting bonded may be a good option for you to get some exoerience. Your worry may be that , they will just assign you to a desk job and let you rot there over the duration. If you dont learn anything during this bonded period, you will just be considered as any new graduate after your bonding in the employment market.
If you are lucky, they may just release you from the bond as they are not enough jobs to go around in the civil service.
Tough choice, really. You win some, you lose some.

QUOTE(zstan @ Jun 14 2010, 11:04 AM) i don't think they will release you. either u stick to ur job as a clerk or pay back the government every single cent. but i've heard encouraging stories as well la. if you get into into TOP OVERSEAS uni(Imperial, MIT etc), and graduated with flying colours, some companies might just hire you and pay back everything to the goverment. i heard one story that a guy graduated from MIT and got hired by NASA straight away. of course they paid our gov back la. think about it. are you that good? 4 years as a clerk? How to explain to your next prospective employer. Worse still, if employed, working under other engineering graduates who might be 4 years younger than him. This is a worst case scenario. Pray hard for the Malaysian economy to improve over the next few years for more options. I think his is a local scholarship. Not likely for overseas.

QUOTE(biggie @ Jun 14 2010, 04:16 PM) Contract wise you will not be employed as a clerk, in fact if there are no post then you will be released from the bond. But JPA as the biggest employer in Malaysia will have some vacancies for you. "Clerk" does not restrict you to just a clerk, it can just be a desk job with very little hands on relevant experience. I do hope its not really that bad but the current situation is that there seems to be an oversupply of such graduates locally and most are not employable in the private sector and these are the graduates who would be priortise for hands on experience for fast promotion prospects. At the end of the day, there is nothing in black or white on where or how you will be employed but a bond is a bond and you will have to fulfil your side of the bargain. I f you are sponsored by Sime Darby, Shell or CIMB, at least you know what to expect.

A fren who applied PILN was not successful but was offered PIDN in a local university to do accounting. The course fees is less than RM50K for the duration of the course but the bonding is 4 years.
She's a straight As student almost with a perfect 10A+(except 1A). I have suggested to her to think carefully as she's a brilliant student with a bright future and she should not just take the scholarship but should also consider the 4 years period which may play a significant part in her future path.
On the other hand, does it really matter? Despite any adversity, you can never keep a good guy down.
Care to comment?

QUOTE(dhui @ Jun 15 2010, 01:15 PM) I got my JPA local scholarship without sending my documentations. You can imagine how they works in determiming the qualified students? Fantastic! You never applied or you applied, did not get and never appeal. This is Malaysia Boleh! As I said earlier, you can never keep a good guy down! Help can come in many ways.
