Yes, the IT department is still looking for people. If you are fresh graduates, you will need excellent academic records.
The IT dept at BNM is quite big. About 100+ people. Most work in the development/programming sides where you manage applications, deal with vendors and gather user requirements.

Usually position is not posted; if you indicate your interest in doing IT when you send in your resume, HR will forward the resume to either a manager or deputy director in the department. If your skills or education matches what we are looking for then they will inform HR to put your name in as a possible candidate. This process takes a long time, weeks sometimes.

This is where the cable comes in. Once you send in your resume, you can ask/pester HR or anyone you know in BNM about the status of your application. Better if you know anyone in the IT department for a particular vacancy. Your cable does not guarantee employment but it helps smooth the process.

Interview process
1) HR will call you and set appointment time
2) You fill up the application form onsite.
3) HR will do basic interview to ensure job match. After that you will be asked to write essays in both Bahasa Malaysia and English. Topics range from how Bank Negara can improve its services to the rakyat or how it can improve itself as a knowldge based organization. You have about 30 minutes to do the test.
4) The next business day, HR will inform the departments that have vacancies of your possible candidacy
5) HR will call you again to set up an interview with the department's management
6) Usually a deputy director or senior manager, along with an HR staff will do a group interview
7) They will make assessment based on how you conduct yourself during the interview, similar work experience for the job you are applying, ask about any leadership or tough assignments that you have done in the past, gauge your reaction etc. Interview tips - know a bit about BNM by visiting their websites and read their annual reports..
8) For junior positions - Senior Executives, Clerical Officers, Executive Officers, there will usually be a few candidates coming on the same day
9) The interview panel members will mark in your score for the interview and sometimes debate on your + or - points after you leave the room
10) Usually it takes about 2 - 3 weeks before they make their decision. HR will call you if you are successful. If you are not sure, you can still contact HR via email or phone.
11) If you are selected there is another test that you have to take which is called Innerview to further check on the job match. Answer honestly.
12) You will also be asked to fill up a form for background checks with Bukit Aman PDRM

IT department is comprised of:
Infrastructure and Operations - handles network, servers, storage, backup, desktops etc
Payment and Treasury - handles critical financial system etc
Knowledge Management - handles enterprise portals etc
Strategic Planning and Governance - handles security and policies etc
Statistical and Administrative Systems - handles statistics, economic data, systems etc

Career path:
5 - 6 years as senior executive with excellent appraisals 3.9++/5 can become manager
In IT department not sure, but you can always transfer to other departments after 2-3 years
or can apply for study (fully sponsored by Bank Negara - bonded 4 years)

Salary: basic/fresh starts at RM2.9K ++ experience up to RM4.5k
Perks: a lot

That's all for now.

There's a thrill to get success without being recommended or "cable" from anyone. Hard fought win always feels good.
I wonder if there's any opening at BNM..

yea, i do not like the idea of cabling or roping inside an organisation. Counting on your own efforts to get in really prep you up all the time. You can try jobstreeting bank negara for job though or call up the HR =D

Seems like the requirement to apply is strict.
I am trying to send an application. Let's see any luck.

Fast forward to 2016, I saw that they are currently hiring IT manager for their IT Services. Planning to apply and it seems that this position doesn't pay what I am expecting (14-15k) after looking into jobstreet. Can anybody shed some light on the work life balance of an IT manager there? Also, this position is offered on a 2 year contract basis. Hmm.... What a bummer. Does anybody has any interesting stories to share regarding this? Thanks!

So lets summarize how its like working in BNM:

U start of getting paid well but increments are tiny n promotions after a certain level is difficult as its due to different capabilities. Benefits are top notch & work life balance is good. You'll be able to comfortably move into compliance functions in foreign/local banks with an even better paycheck rclxms.gif

VERY SMART people in there, so dnt bring your misconceptions with you when you join the company.

Right oso I work at GLC (regulatory body) same like BNM but more towards investment and capital market. Hmm I really2 need to consider this one cause once I go, a lot of my current benefits will drop.
