I also think 1.5.1 is the best version i've used, after trying 1.5.1, 1.5.3, 1.6.x, and 1.8.1. Didn't encounter many force closures and auto restart with 1.5.1.

Still on 1.8.1 now. One of the biggest problems is with the audio. When I was running a sleep-inducing app called "Lightning Bug", a while after the phone sleeps, the sound from the app will start to go choppy and broken. It might recover, but often it will just jam my phone. Had to take out battery and restart. Bummer. Thought was app problem, but when i play MP3, this happens also. Though no restart needed, but it's a pain to "enjoy" your music with frequent choppy sound. Still cannot get to the bottom of this problem.

Minor problems:
1. screen remains black for a few seconds during incoming calls before i can see the screen and answer calls.
2. sometimes voice dialer (connected using bluetooth headset) is not responsive.

hi benny,

under what circumstances one needs to wipe cache, dalvik, cache partition and factory reset?
i did that as recommended when i moved from 1.6.1 to 1.8.1., but not when i moved from 1.5.x to 1.6.1.
now thinking to go back 1.5.1 again.

my phone memory will run low (low as in very low, can be less than 20MB RAM, even single digit) sometimes, even task killer wouldn't help, nor can it show any big app eating up huge chunk of RAM.

what's the good of a dock?

Don't know what's wrong. Flashed to DJSteve 1.5.3 now. let's see how it goes.

By the way, any way to remove stock Swype on 1.5.3? I prefer the Swype Beta.

Still run into low RAM on 1.5.3 (though i didn't do factory reset when flashing).

One thing i found out though, is after i uninstalled ZDBox app (i only used it to lock some apps), the situation improved greatly. Running a few days without encountering low RAM.

But after 4 days, now RAM is running rather low again, lowest around 40MB. Don't know what app is dragging the whole system.

i realise my GTalk on android can't receive any message of late. Not sure since when...maybe since i flashed to 1.8.1 again? That's like about 2 weeks ago.

My google account still works, gtalk on gmail and standalone pc version still work. Just no msg arrive on my Android.

Any similar problem faced by anyone?

I still go back to DJ_Steve 1.5.3 after trying several higher versions. Most satisfying. But it didn't have the configuration of "noswype". Anyway, found the following link on how to remove pre-loaded Swype to enable Swype Beta.

what a sad day hearing the end of Streak 5. I'm not sure if I will still be able to adapt to smaller screen smartphones. 5" seems perfect for me.

p/s: finally got the chance to use it as GPS days ago, the screen is fantastic, but had problems with occasional lost of GPS signal, and more critically, sometimes force restart the phone when i didn't have clear sky sight. does the job well nonetheless.

I notice when I browse for some apps in the market, the "Download" button wouldn't appear. When I use web to browse for it, it says it's not compatible with my Dell Streak. What's happening?

It's frustrating. I installed Angry Birds previously before I factory reset a few weeks ago. so on my web account it shows Installed and Incompatible at the same time.

any 4.0 ROM for Streak?
