Depend on how severe your "low light" is.

Very often you need all 3. Powerful flash, high ISO, and fast lens

The higher the ISO and faster the lens, the farther your flash will reach, and it also means you will reduce hotspots and help expose the background properly.

save up RM 600 - 700, get EOS 550D and 18-55 IS, forget about the 50mm f1.8 II.

1000D is great for starters but if you can just wait 1 month and get a little more funds, it'll be better in the long run.

oh and if you don't need video, then can consider the EOS 500D + 18-55 IS + 50mm f1.8 II

bottom line is, go for any of the EOS 5xxD series. they're better value.

500D got video. just a bit cacat'fied by canon.

both are much more compelling buys than the 1000D

Hey guys,

I am looking at getting a canon 50D... What would be a good lens to go with it? Also... What other alternative can I get apart from 50D? I am just a beginner btw... Please help... My budget is around RM3.8k...

I am looking to buy only the body because there is a sales at my place for the body only... Around RM2.4k only... Which is a quite a steal... No?
*
Just buy the body only if thats what you are looking for. You can scour the Garage Sales section and pick up a used 18-55IS kitty for $300-$400. Or if you are lucky enough, you might be able to find a Tamron 17-50F2.8 for about 1k.

I'm not sure if your camera still have the free 70-300F4-5.6 USMIII lens Promotion..but worth looking into.

That said, other than the larger better built body and slightly higher speed sustained burst, I would have gone with the 550D for the same price.

why is it always not enough brightness in my photo? i always need to switch my ISO to 1600 or higher when shooting indoor. is it normal? im using eos 550d. thx in advance.

Just an interesting tidbit on human eyes in terms of Digital sensors

Shutter speed 1/50
ISO at around 50,000 (B/W)
Dynamic range 20 stops
Resolution 5mp
F Stops - F3.5- F5
Focal range ~ 50mm

Try shooting an image with your best sensor at 1/50 and F3.5 at night. Fail.
Ramp up the Iso to 51,200 shot at F3.5 and 1/50. Fail.

more impressive is when..all while having 20 stops dymanic range. (current sensors have 5..maybe 6 stops with the Fuji superCCD)
You shoot wedding outdoors in afternoon sun with the groom in a tux and the bride in a white dress you can cry.gif already. I once shoot a dark skinned fellow wearing a white shirt... cry.gif also.

Of course these are average claimed figures, one might have better or worst.

Just show how impressive our eyes are. Even the best of DSLR technology can't replicate it to this day...especially when we have spatial 3D ability, noise reduction, auto colour correction, Motion detection, and of course, smile detection since day 1 .......

The only thing our eyes can't do is Zoom. haha

Haha...20stop and 50,000 ISO. Should add in superb white balance..where you get this info from? or you made it out urself?
*
I did, not only white balance...but COLOUR correction.
I suggest you can go google it or go find any book on Sensory perception. It was in my a 2nd year Psychology textbook..

and FYI. your 450D is not rated for ANY water resistance.

Someone wants to loan me a weather sealed L to test my 7D's water resistance? hehehe
I got the back rather wet the other day (lens facing down to shield the lens and mount) so far ok.
