@cloud8318, u cant blame those technician or seller to know everything. They simply do not have the time to learn all these stuff. Despite working hours is long and if they play with them all the time, BOSS will eff them up and down.

Well I did my training as trainee repair engineer at AXXX laptop brand service center. Sometimes when I have to go out and meet customer and answer them question regarding the specific software/hardware question. I cant answer all of them to be honest cause there are too many models and even same model have different specs and features, we as engineer dont really have time to play with and test with them to know everything because we are loaded with tons of repair and works to do.

So what I meant is instead of asking them, we are look for the answer by asking user who really own the device like what aspire2006 said. Even if they give the wrong info, we cant blame them and i dont think they want to give wrong info also wink.gif

I am lazy to look for answer

Can N900 watch 700mb avi files without converting and watch rmvb files?

Besides, can N900 view pdf, doc files smoothly without those laggyness like in symbian? Symbian view pdf very slowly.

Not sure if size matters, have tested over 3GB size videos files also, nothing wrong; Even N97 can play over 3GB size videos; It's the bitrate and resolution that matters. For N97, I use smartmovie and the video I use around 300++ bitrate.

For N900, you can play most of the avi files without need to convert, unless it is high quality which might cause some lag or totally cannot play (but if you use mplayer, you might be still be able to play it).

rmvb files you might experience lag, but still watchable unless the compression/quality is too much for the N900 to handle.

You need to install the extra-decoder support to be able to watch more types of videos files. Install mplayer and KMPlayer, from KMPlayer, you can choose mplayer as the video player, now you can play files that cannot be play by the default video player, but mplayer uses the processor instead of the DSP, so it will drain your battery more.

N97 watch 1000kbps 1.4GB mp4 no problem, tested tongue.gif

video should not be a problem then thanks

Bro chica, answers below:

1) I downloaded Evangelion 2.22 400p xvid avi before and dumped all 1.5GB onto the N900. Media player played without any hiccups at all. But for the sake of optimal space usage, I've gone to converting most of my files to baseline H.264 mp4s that are far more efficient than xvid/divx. RMVB is a problem though, haven't tested any but I've heard that only Mplayer does them, and audio goes out of sync after a while.

But VLC is on the way, so no worries.

2) This one is tricky. PDFs, yes it views sans laggness but the built-in pdf viewer is crap. Evince should theoretically do better (will install to test, haven't yet). As for doc, OpenOffice is laggy yes - but it's running chroot. For native viewing you have Abiword, FreOffice and DocsToGo viewer - all of which is more than acceptably fast, but buggy in one way or another (DocsToGo is the best IMHO, premium w/ editing is running late tho for some unknown reason).

oh so the performance for those viewer is so so only rite~ and yea i saw vlc is coming soon also

how bout firefox? Is it smooth in N900?

I actually find the opposite to be true really, but my N900 is OCed = faster response?

But really, what do you mean by "sensitive"? Faster? More precise?
*
oh, my n97 i just touch lightly and it can sense the input

my n900 i need to touch pretty harder than n97 then only it takes in the input

its the touchscreen problem i think~ speed wise, N900 is awesome, and i just found we can actually browse media from the files i shared on my desktop, normal downloaded avi no problem.

lets go to new thread version tongue.gif

i Still have my n97 with me now. I prefer n900 if u say sensitive n900 wins. Even the accelerator more accurate compare to n97

The vibrator of n97 also feel so fake.

no idea man, my touchscreen need to press harder >.<

but yea n900 vibration is better than N97~ my sis using my N97 now ~ lol
