There's a lot of cases of the Dodocase not holding the iPad in place securely. And the end result?

Twelve South has released a good iPad stand this time, compared to their boring BookArc iPad stand. It's called the Compass Stand.

QUOTE
It’s an easel and an instant theater.
Perhaps the biggest strength of this gorgeous sliver of steel is its versatility. Used upright as an easel, Compass lets you view and interact with iPad in both portrait and landscape modes, even if you keep your iPad protected in the Apple case. Use portrait mode for things like iPhoto slideshows, browsing the iBookstore or flipping through an online news article. Turn your iPad on its side, in landscape position, and Compass becomes the ultimate portable theater. Enjoy your favorite YouTube videos and feature-length movies anywhere you go, while keeping your hands free for popcorn and beverages.

Point Compass to work mode.
Compass is an iPad stand designed for those who want to work on their iPad. Designed with a fold-away secondary leg, Compass instantly goes from an easel to a pint-size work station, angled perfectly for typing on iPad’s onscreen keyboard. Compass makes typing on iPad super comfortable so you can put in long stretches in Keynote, Pages or Numbers without the neck-ache that comes from working with iPad on your lap. Compass is a small, totally mobile tool that can be used on planes, airports, hotels, coffee shops, cafes and even in boardrooms. When folded flat, this tiny, yet sturdy, iPad stand takes up minimal space inside your briefcase, backpack or computer bag. In short, Compass gets the job done.

Compass goes wherever iPad goes.
Folded flat, Compass is a mere 7-inches long by 1-inch wide, about the size of a candy bar. Small enough to carry anywhere and use anywhere you go. Set it up on a desk, coffee tables, night stands, kitchen countertop and pretty much any flat, stable surface you’re likely to set your iPad on. Think of Compass as a portable easel to display your photography, a mobile movie theater or an instant work station that’s angled at a wrist-happy position for onscreen typing. Made from heavy, powder-coated steel, Compass is solid and super sturdy. It has soft silicone pads on the feet to protect any surface you set it on. It’s the perfect traveling companion for iPad.

It runs circles around other stands.
Compass is beautifully designed and folds to a compact size making it totally mobile so you can easily take your iPad show on the road. It’s versatility makes it perfect for business or pleasure. Compass is a handy stand for charging iPad. If you plan on using a fun new app like Air Display, which turns iPad into a mobile second monitor, Compass is the perfect stand to have parked next to your MacBook, MacBook Pro or iMac. It’s the must-have, go anywhere stand that helps you see and do a whole lot more with your iPad.

Multitask tool that sets up in seconds.
This one-of-a-kind mobile iPad accessory is super easy to set up. Slide the sleek Compass out of its case, simply fold out all three legs and fold down the two iPad supports and you’re done. To switch to typing mode, all you have to do is fold down the secondary leg on the back of the stand. Then position Compass so the secondary leg rests on your work surface and you’re set to start typing your latest Facebook update or editing a spreadsheet in Numbers. Compass is an easy-to-use, multifunctional stand that lets you give your lap a rest while watching or working on your iPad.

Pretty cheap too, for USD39.99, probably for limited time only, since they are offering free shipping to US now. Should I get one? hmm.gif

You're right! Thank you for pointing that out. smile.gif

Beavis bro, laugh.gif right on as well. Joule/Skadoosh combo remains the rare stand on the market, so it bumps up its exoticness value. biggrin.gif

Joule, yes. Skadoosh stays at home, it's my permanent charging station stand since it's the only stand with variable angle that allows charging via the iPod cable with the iPad in it.

Another good alternative to the Switcheasy Nude case for the iPad is the PowerSupport Air Jacket. The Ultra Clear version looks yummy!

the nude case will end up becoming yellow-ish after some time.

I call bullshit. I've been using the Nude Ultra-Clear since the iPad first week launch, and it has been "ultra clear" all this while, zero yellowing. If you are basing your statement on your experience with the Nude on 3GS , they are not the same build material as the Nude on iPad.

Of course, if you start bloody smoking around the iPad with the Nude case on, any ultra-clear case will turn ugly dirty because of that.

Source?

Until I see my Ultra Clear Nude yellowing, I call shenanigans. No amount of "lols" and "no offenses" will make m think otherwise. I see the BSE or InvisibleShield getting yellow over time, compared to the Nude Case. Like I said, don't live or use your iPads around smokers.

Just received my Waterfield stuff from Fedex just now. 1 x Portable Muzetto Olive Green, 2 x iPad Smart Case (Olive Green & Flame Red) and 2 x Keyboard Sleeve. Pictures and impressions to come. Suffice to say that Gary, Waterfield CEO was right, the Portable Muzetto IS the perfect iPad companion bag! Same treatment as always, a personal note from him thanking the purchase, with email a few days back from himself to inform me that the order has shipped from San Francisco. Personalized service, prompt info relays, and awesome build quality. Go SFBags! rclxm9.gif

P/S: I love the smell of a fresh new Waterfield bag! laugh.gif

My current Waterfield collection:-

1 x Personal Muzetto Flame Red, 1 x Portable Muzetto Lime Green, 1 x iPad Smart Case Flame Red, 1 x iPad Smart Case Lime Green, 1 x iPad Slip Case Flame Red, 1 x iPad Ultimate Sleevecase, 2 x Keyboard Short Sleeve.

The two different Muzettos. Personal infront, the larger Portable at the back. Note the different leather texture. I've weathered the Personal Muzetto during my travels around the world, so much that it looks like it's seasoned now. Fit for Indy and his adventures! laugh.gif While, the new Portable Muzetto has this waxed leather texture that feels smooth to the touch. I like them both!

Gary of Waterfield wasn't kidding when he mentioned that the iPad Smart Case and the Muzetto are made for each other. What's even more surprising is how well they complement one another. Just look at that fitting, it almost looks like the Personal Muzetto has a third pocket! Nope, that is not a third pocket, folks.....that's the iPad Smart Case fitting perfectly into the Personal Muzetto! rclxms.gif

user posted image

Let's take a look at the iPad Smart Case. Ballistic Nylon for impact resistance, mesh pocket at the back for miscellaneous accessories, and luxurious ultra suede that cradles, caress and cleans your iPad when slipped into. Shown here with the iPad wearing the Switcheasy Nude case, and it fits like a glove!

user posted image

Here's the Keyboard Short Sleeve. Fits the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard perfectly, and prevented from slipping out by the cradling of ultra soft material inside and the catch button inside. Outside material made from ballistic Nylon with grip surface so that it won't move around when deposited into the Muzetto. It smells nice too, leathery smell! biggrin.gif

user posted image

Peekaboo! As illustrated by Gary in his demo video, the interior is made of bright colored material so that it looks as if someone switched on a light inside your Muzetto. Easy to look around, spacious and roomy, presenting the Personal Muzetto! Inside, there are no visible seams at all, a true testament for their workmanship. Inner front zippered pocket for wipes, cards, or in my case, I slip in microfiber cloths and small accessories like the iPad Cam Kits addons in there.

user posted image

How roomy is it? The ENTIRE iPad Ultimate Sleevecase fits in here perfectly, that's how roomy it is! rclxms.gif

With the iPad in the Smart Case, the keyboard in its Sleeve, and together with the collapsible iPad Joule stand that I carry everywhere with me, and with the flap closed, look at the slim profile! I personally love how you can see a slivery hint of the Lime Green color even with the flap closed over the top, to accentuate the brown leather trims. Absolutely perfect! rclxm9.gif

Shipped to Malaysia via DHL, Waterfield will not entertain purchases from Malaysia unless you're either willing to go through their credit card verification process (scans of CC front and back, proof of residence/addess corrensponding to the CC's billing address, and ID/passport verification match) or unless you've purchased their product before and shipped it to continental USA, having your credit card details with them, and then starting a second order with them, with the option to ship to Malaysia available. Shipping is killer here, but with the level of exquisite detail and craftsmanship here, I've been convinced to their level of QC long since I had my first taste with them with my first order of my earlier Muzetto bag with them.

Total cost?

1 x Portable Muzetto = USD189.00
1 x iPad Smart Case Flame Red = USD59.00
1 x iPad Smart Case Lime Green = USD59.00
2 x Keyboard Short Sleeve = USD37.00

Shipping via Fedex, shipped out from San Francisco on August 9th, arrival today (that's THREE days only!) = USD87.75

Do the math. tongue.gif

I would heartily recommend these beautiful creations of Waterfield to anyone who wants protection and carrying solutions for their iPads, they receive top marks from many web publications sites. However, if you're not willing to accept the pricey shipping charges, the only solution I see is a mail-forwarding service like Vpost or Borderlinx or wait for me to get another LA trip, and sent the order to my LA hotel and me transporting them back to KL.

I personally wouldn't recommend the Book Book, the method they use to keep the iPad in place employs using straps that may or may not hold it in place after prolonged usage. There are countless occasions where folks using iPads which uses straps at corners having them straps snaps and down come the iPad to the hard floor.

I was as interested about the Compass Stand, but after scrutinising it further, the two prongs holding the bottom of the iPad in easel mode, will be jutting upwards and impede on the ease of typing when the stand flattens itself into a shallower angle. That was pointed out to me by someone else, otherwise I'd be interested to get this as well. I like the relative thinness and portability of the stand when collapsed, but the two prongs are a dealbreaker.

The A-Frame? Urgh. I move my iPad everywhere with me, it doesn't stay stationary. If it is only on my office desk or on my night stand, then the A-Frame would be feasible, but damn, that thing is heavy! I would still recommend the Skadoosh or Joule (if not cash-strapped). OR any other numerous leather folios that folds into a stand in both vertical or horizontal configurations. At least those options are portable. The A-Frame is heavy enough to discourage moving it around.

Is anyone in Malaysia selling DodoCase? Or do I have to ship it in myself? I fell in love with it the moment I saw Kevin Rose using it.
*
Be advised that there are cases where the Dodocase doesn't hold the iPad in place securely enough that the iPad topples out of the slot. There are several Youtube clips showing this as well. The four corners are made of foam and after some time, the foam pads deformed and doesn't hold the iPad in place anymore. Since then they have shipped with extra foam pads but there's always that worry that your iPad would topple out of the case.

Unfortunately, that Dodocase's Moleskine look is one of a kind. Unless they've fixed the iPad corner foam grips, there aren't any other choices. sad.gif

Those looking for stylus, should be looking at thisJust Mobile AluPen. Handcrafted from solid aluminium with non of those "bulu bulu tip", it is a solid tip that wont feel like it's gonna come off the second you press down and swipe to write on it.

I got mine and it is infinitely better than the previous Pogo Sketch I got. The ragged tip of the Pogo Sketch feels like it's gonna come out any second I write on it. doh.gif

but the shipping is more expensive than the pen itself.
so if there are a few of u interested, we can save on the shipping.
i tried to order 10 units, the shipping fee is still the same.

so just drop me a message if anyone wants it.

OoooO AluPen .. cheaper than Stylus R US..  = )
but wondering if its as responsive as Stylus R US
with the StylusRus .. dun need any force at all . its just as sensitive as your finger.

String i wonder if this is as good coz if it is . i want one too = )

btw the StylusRus tip is firm like hard rubber inside with some sort of frabic ( durable type like the edge of your home carpets )
*
To compare, it is definitely better than the Pogo, I can even write with this slanted and not having the tip at 90 degrees to register a touch.

I have not seen or tested the StylusRUS, but if that stylus claims to do what it does, it's pretty amazing. So far the only video I see on that stylus is someone playing picture matching on his iPhone and even my AluPen does the same thing. No videos so far on the StylusRUs of someone doing writing or sketching on it.
