hey guys, just wondering, off-camera flash, which transmitter is reliable? the phottix ok ar?
*
hi just to share my exp - phottix has a few range. for budget can get phottix tetra, i have a few, they are ok but lack on the range and compatibility so just it it for close proximity or studio is fine. dedicated transmitter and receiver. if in large venue for e..g event sometimes it doesn't trigger if a bit far.

I've switched to using a few phottix Atlas which is pocket wizard compatible. the range is far greater. Atlas is transceiver (same unit for xmit or xceive)

you an even use it as a wireless remote trigger. highly recommend it for serious strobist.

cost Tetra = rm 99 or so for one set (transmitter n receiver)
cost Atlas = about rm 350 for one unit
cost Pocket Wizard = about rm 9xx or so for one unit

Thanks bro for the info. Btw I was looking at some phottix atlas just now in the garage sales. Looks kinda good. Just to be sure, if I wanted to use it as off camera flash, I need to buy 2 units right? Hopefully camera shops here sells them. I'm just a hobbyist so I may not do some serious strobist I think. Might wanna get the 430 to be my slave as well.

So say if I wanna use 3 flashes at the same time, would I nid 3 phottix unit? Is that so? Or the 430 can just be a slave to the 580? So I oni nid 2. Is it like that?

Anyways, thanks for ur replies. Really helpful

yes you need 2 units. one to put on your camera hotshoe and one to plug/attach your flash/strobe.

if you have 3 flashes you need 4 atlas (1 on the body to act as trigger). well you can set the 430 to slave mode and have the 580 trigger it but have to be line of sight or at least where the sensor can detect the flash, but admittedly this is my theory as i don't use this method. it should work though. if you attach the atlas then even behind a wall it will trigger.

to use the atlas as a remote shutter button you need to buy a seperate cable. it can simultaneously release shutter as well as trigger flashes. you can buy from the guy in garage sales (camera2u) his name is daniel i bought 10 from him so far.

do remember to turn off the atlas when not in use else the battery will drain. uses 2 AA batt included.

p.s. it can trigger SB and Nissin too wink.gif (and other models)

how about photix strato? ist better then tetra or atlas?
*
hi havent check this thread in a while. the strato works off 2.4 Ghz so it's not compatible with the so called industry standard Pocket wizard. also the units are either receiver or transmitter. For the price in my opinion it would be better to use the Atlas which is a transceiver.

disclaimer: i have not personally use this myself but have tried the other ones.
