Hi,
Been ran into some dilemma, I'm eyeing for a new 50inch Plasma for my living room, thought I already set my mind on the Samsung C6500 due to the price/performance ratio, one of my close friend actually start to inject venom into my vein and lead me to think that Kuro is a much better buy although it's more expensive and only a HD ready panel.

I still yet to make myself available to see how's the Kuro 508XG perform, but I've seen the C6500 and I thought that's really good and it became better for the asking price of it.

My ultimate question is, speaking of quality, I've tonnes of 720p/1080p materials and how would the 1080p material played on the Kuro (with image processing to scale down to 720p) compare to the 1080p material played on the C6500 at its native resolution?

I'd love to hear some comments on this, would really a 720p with 2 years old technology outperform the new comers which is 1080p?

I dont know about kuro, but what I like about C6500 is ability to play mkv files directly from your hdd.
Also, I think picture in 6500 is really good. Dunno how much diff is with Kuro.

The viewing distance will determine whether you can fully take the advantage of FHD resolution.

You can try to check on Seng Heng or Harvey Norman outlets, perhaps they still got 508XG display unit. Use your own eyes to decide and I'm sure you will fall in love with it. FYI, Kuro comes with 5yrs warranty for peace of mind and made in Japan.

ICDeadPeople, playing .mkv from the panel is not a selling point for me as I've already got my HTPC. :-), gotta agree with u the PQ is good.

gocitygo, my viewing distance would be 9ft, I'll try to ask around which Harvey has the 508XG in display. If it's a 5 years warranty now it has some more plus points tongue.gif

If ever I can find a display set, what's the good price to nego? Anyone bought a display set before? Or is there any potential owner of the 508XG which they want to upgrade to KRP-500? tongue.gif

About to, but I've briefly seen one in Harvey 1U last time, which is good, but that's quite some times ago, and I need to go and see it again to refresh my memory and pit it against the Sammy C6500

I remembered when I saw the Kuro last time, it was impressive, but time goes by I can't really remember how impressive it was exactly. So I need to refresh a bit by re-visited the shop which has the Kuro on display, and then compare it with other new kids on the block to justify the price tag :-)

But I guess the name "Kuro" itself make u feels nicer tongue.gif

i might be deemed biased...heh.

imho, why kuro is so highly praised is not on the blacks alone, its the total package. even the speakers is redesigned and is tuned to achieve to the targeted quality of the total design. both PQ and AQ.

and on the PQ itself, pioneer put an array of features that is really good which explains the high premium quality price.

seriously, even orbiter alone is a deciding factor. No worries on IR at all.

and i reiterate again, if you have a budget of 10k, go for krp-500a. the brand was so mind blowing it is talked about even after its death which in my opinion is due to overengineering cost...like merc e-class of old..

well if you have a budget of 10k, might as well dish 1-1.5k for krp-500a. or you might get lucky..who knows...

if my budget is 5-7k, ill probably hunt for 508xg..10k for 508xg is too expensive considering the tremendous upgrade of krp over xg...

Do you have any idea where can source the 508xg for 5-7k? Display set?

You can try SenQ outlets.

After looking at the Display Set, not worth to buy. Scratch here and there...

Today took my time to visit few stores, mainly to search for a Kuro 508XG and pit it against other offering like Samsung C6500 and Panasonic V20k.

All in all, I think the V20k is a very good buy at TBM shop, I'd safely says it's almost Kuro 8G performance with FullHD supports. The Samsung C6500 was quite good and it became even better with the price in mind.

Kuro is the brand name though, and owning one is different compare to the others :-), still deciding tongue.gif

As some forumers pointed out, the V20k in M'sia is not the same as the Europe spec, it is more to the G20 but minus the THX.
