anyone know if i m recorded astro SD or HD content into the WD My Pocket AV 320GB, can i watch the content thru my computer/bluray player (new bluray player got USB drive)/media player. if copy it out, i think surely cannotlah coz of copyright issue.
*

Can I transfer the recorded programme on my Astro B.yond PVR or Ext. HDD to an external device?
No. All television programmes are subject to copyright licensing restrictions.

My smartcard is not working. Will I still have access to my recordings if my smartcard is not replaced?
No, the smartcard is paired with the built-in hard disk in your Astro B.yond PVR or Ext. HDD. Without the smartcard, you will have no access to your recordings.

When my smartcard has been replaced with a new one, will my previous recordings be available?
Yes, your previous recordings were stored at the current hard-disk and now the new smartcard has been paired with your Astro B.yond box and hard disk.

How long are the programs stored in the hard-disk once it has been recorded?
Except for PPV or VOD channels, programmes are stored in a hard disk as long as it is not deleted.
However, a recorded programme tied to a package which you no longer subscribe to, will remain stored in your hard disk but you will not be able to watch it until you re-subscribe to that package.

ok...some minor question here......
if we record some movies in portable WD that they offer...then we want to share the film with others....can this file sent or burnt and past to others and save back in others portable WD.then they play again in their own decorder...can or not?
*

Cannot lor, read the faq.
Your recorded program will only work with your smart card and your decoder only

Is there any possibility Astro will upgrade their PVR to support external HDD as a additional storage. Waiting for that moment. wish.gif

If HD channel don't have subtitles, then  rclxm9.gif
Can somebody confirm this ? Some forummers here said there are subtitles, some say don't have.  doh.gif
So who is right and who is wrong ?
*

Yes, all HD channel doesn't have subtitle (yet?). Astro should use closed caption instead if they plan to add in future, like History Channel.

You can't get 720p using component cable with byond, only using HDMI.

Hi guise, please forgive my noobieness as I don't know if I can wade thru 4 versions of this thread.. My condo management just approved for residents to install their own dishes for byond.
My setup now is the old astro decoder -> S-video->LCD TV
and also
old astro decoder ->rf cable -> TV in another room
When I get byond the LCD TV will be connected via HDMI, but will I also be able to watch SD channels on another TV via RF/Composite?
Your assistance is much appreciated.
*

Glad to hear that, now you can enjoy HD channel thumbup.gif
You need to buy AV to RF converter for another TV as byond decoder doesn't have built in RF output. You can also watch HD channel too but in SD resolution.

Why most of the SD channels' PQ are getting worse???!!!!!
I'm using CRT composite to test both HD & SD, and I can clearly see the gap.
Given that composite is delivering up to 480i, does that mean the SD quality is not even up to par?
Or some of the SD bandwidth are compromised to HD favor.
*

That's the different between h.264 & mpeg-2. Astro use tremendous amout of compression for SD channel. When you saw HD channel, you'll think SD channel are getting worst. Your eyes adjusting to it smile.gif

@world cup
they should just ban the instrument which make the "bug/bees" noisy
it's F**King irritating.
*

Unfortunately FIFA refuse to ban vuvuzela. Maybe they wonder local people won't go to stadium if they banned it.

U cant expect FIFA to ban a traditional or a cultural instrument from the stadium..
Its like if the World Cup in Malaysia and FIFA ban the kompang from the stadium..
What would we Malaysians feel if those western people come to our place and stop us from using our culture?
Ban us from using the kompang in the stadiums?
Most countries has many own musical instruments..
I understand the irritating sounds from vuvuzela..
But just banning the vuvuzela coz some Europeans and Asian teams dont like it is very disrespectful to the hosts..
Germany won 4-0..Argentina won also..so teams have to adapt to win..
We viewers have to adapt too.. icon_rolleyes.gif
*

I respect your view, but I also don't mind if kompang will be ban from football stadium. None of us carry kompang in football stadium, isn't it?
We use only in Badminton stadium, but the effect was not horrible as LFE from vuvuzela. It just irritating all the time.
As much as we enjoy WC in HD, I also expect the beauty of spectator sound like in EPL, but ... shakehead.gif

US TVs dont broadcast on 1080i , they prefer 720p. So that could be the reason why , some british channels do use 1080i. They prefer progressive scan as it gives a crisp image.
*

1080i is the preferred format for CBS and NBC, Fox and ABC/ESPN broadcast in 720p.

i want Astro On Demand on HD...
*

I think Astro will introduce this soon. That's why they reserve 100GB space of HDD. Maybe they will download all AOD show to your HDD & you only can play it if you subscribe to it. This could be real 'On Demand'. Just my guess hmm.gif
