Cimb SG -> Cimb my : very good rates
Cimb my -> Cimb sg : avoid at all cost

Why are people not using TransferWise? So far I have been using TransferWise instead of Instarem to transfer RM to SGD. Very fast. Is CIMB SG-->CIMB my better than transferwise's rate?

Noticed that xe.com may also be able to transfer? Not sure. Did not explore it

Transferwise most of the time expensive vs instarem. Is the only fintech I will use for bringing money back to Malaysia should there be a need. There is another fintech based in singapore which allows malaysians to open an account online. Have not tried them yet. But I know this fintech rates is the cheapest.

Cimb sg rates sometimes better than transferwise. Surprisingly. Forget about xe. We cannot use XE. XE is only for westerners.

Thanks. When I first started transferring RM to SGD, I compared Transferwise, Instarem and BigPay. They all yielded about the same $ amount. After that, I did not bother comparing anymore as Transferwise usually transferred within an hour. Must go and try compare again. Wonder is it because I transferred $10k each time instead of bigger amount 1 shot.

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Apr 25 2020, 08:40 PM)
Hehe... Only RM10k each time right?

QUOTE(cklimm @ Apr 25 2020, 08:41 PM)
used to be 10, now 5

Bigpay took so long to transfer. Wow, from $10k become $5k now

I still checked. Whichever give me the best rate gets my business. I use instarem, bigpay, moneymatch with transferwise being the most expensive. Bigpay is the slowest. Sometimes way cheaper than the rest.

That's for credit card topup. But not overseas transfer.
*
Thanks. I wonder can anyone of them store foreign currency? Merchantrade can but the rate sucks big time

QUOTE(Mr Gray @ Jul 25 2023, 11:47 AM)
Happy to share that I have successfully opened my OCBC Singapore account with just my IC and Passport.

The process of applying through the app is a bit a pain in the ass, as needs to do several times for the app to accept my IC. Tips, the ic can be slightly outside the rectangle.

Took about 3 working days for the account to be approved. Was given Global Savings Account and Statement Savings Account.

Initial deposit required is just SGD1000, it can be from your Singaporean bank account or Malaysian bank account. I already have Maybank SG account. So this is very seamless.

Despite the T&C showing initial deposit for non-resident Statement Savings Account is SGD20k. I just needed to deposit SGD1k. Not sure if this only applies for Malaysians or what.

Regardless, even if the fall below fee for non-resident Statement Savings Account which is 20k is imposed as per T&C (no fee for first year), don't worry, we can go around this.  cool2.gif

Once you have access to the OCBC SG online banking, you can immediately apply for other accounts like OCBC 360 (minimum balance 3k) or OCBC Frank (minimum balance 1k), Monthly Savings account (minimum balance 500) or other OCBC SG accounts. I prefer OCBC 360. I will close Statement Savings Account after this.

So for all Malaysians residing in Malaysia, with no SG pass whatsoever. Right now we have 3 easy options for SG bank accounts (Maybank, CIMB and OCBC), everything done online, super easy.

For those who are interested to apply OCBC SG account, can use my referral code -------- . You will get SGD15, and I will get SGD15.

A question for the experts. When you transfer larger amount of money from RM to USD/SGD, do you transfer RM30k per transaction or lesser amount? Currently, I am transferring RM10k/transaction instead of RM30k. Downside is you incur more cost. Is there more scrutiny/risk if transfer RM30k at a time?

I don't know what more cost. Cause moneymatch and Sunway money fees are fixed at RM8.00 and RM1.00/transaction respectively. Unless you are counting amount/RM8.00 or RM1.00.

No issue. Just show them where your money comes from. Moneymatch and Sunway money have asked me for proof of income numerous time, give them bank statement and money will go though.
*
I use Wise to transfer. Cost is actually cheaper if larger amount. But so far just transfer RM10k/transaction instead of more each time. Thanks

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Oct 15 2023, 08:24 PM)
Big amount normally just ask source of income $$$...

U got nothing to hide why worries

Just give your local bank statement & salaries slip...

They just want some paper trail....

Thanks

Wise not cheap. They have always been more expensive than others but cheaper than instarem. That's why I never ever use wise. Always been a Sunway money guy until this year someone told me moneymatch cheaper.
*
Thanks. I have compared Wise and Moneymatch rates a few times. Sometimes one is cheaper than the other. But I just stay with Wise because lazy and comfortable with Wise. Have never tried transferring with Moneymatch yet. Maybe one day I will do that.

1. Open sg bank account cimb or OCBC sg Instructions are here.
2. Open moneymatch or Sunway money
3. Open ibkr and moomoo sg (you need VPN with sg IP for that)
4. Use moneymatch or sunwys money to change your RM into SGD and transfer your money into CIMB sg or OCBC sg
5. Use FAST transfer to move your SGD into either Ibkr or moomoo sg.
6. If you want usd, you can convert using ibkr at spot rate (market rate without any hikeup unlike with banks for USD2.00/coversion)

If you have moomoo sg and SGD, you can buy their SG MMF call Fullerton sgd cash fund giving you 3.8%p a

For USD, you can buy short term treasuries or treasuries ETF via ibkr.
*
[Ramjade] Sad to say Malaysia residents can't open with Moomoo. They outright don't let you choose Malaysia or your NRIC is rejected. Also clearly state in app, Malaysia residents can't do that. The only possible solution could be choose 'foreigners residing in Singapore' but then they will need further proof. Did not explore this option with passport.

To be honest I open moomoo and tiger for 2 reasons
1. Mmf
2. Real time data only

Rest I use ibkr.
*
Understand. I too am using Tiger and FSM for mmf, though I still put trades in Tiger. Real data either yahoo finance or tiger. I thought IBKR is real data also but sometimes when I try to put trades, they keep telling me 'don't have data', so am confused

Ibkr does not have real time data. They want you to pay for it.
Moomoo and tiger mmf is better than FSM.

tiger isnt that bad.

it may look bad, but if you take consideration that tiger gives lots of vouchers... it kinda balanced it out

until 31 mar 2024, tiger have option pricing promo, 0.65 per option
*
I hardly use their vouchers. Timing don't match. When want to buy, no vouchers. When don't want to trade, got voucher. Plus just because I want to use options, I have to open margin account. Prefer cash account as its safer and also in case got fat finger/account fall into wrong hands--can sleep more peacefully at night.

Having said that, I do still buy from Tiger. Like it that their app quickly show the chart and price. Plus I need it to last a long time, so have to give it some business

Everywhere increase price. Even Wise now have extra charge due to volatility in forex

moneymatch will be cheaper the more u change. for smaller amounts, wise still cheaper
*
QUOTE(Medufsaid @ Oct 20 2023, 11:11 PM)
previously, if you intend to convert sub RM1k, sunway money is better... once this gets implemented those that only intend to convert in micro amounts have to turn to moneymatch

--edit--
or wise
*
Wise not good for small amounts either. Minimum try to change around RM10k to get more reasonable rate.

Sorry, I don't transfer small amounts as its not worth it. Just accumulate until enough to transfer. If there is a platform for small amount I also interested.

exactly. that's y it was centered at small amounts. also though at the rate rm is dropping, might even lose more while 'accumulating'
*
I understand. For me, I won't chase so hard. Also, at the moment, SGD/RM rate won't change as much as compared to USD/RM

QUOTE(!@#$%^ @ Oct 21 2023, 03:20 AM)
though im not sure.

for example in wise

to get sgd5000 it's quoted rm17502.68
to get sgd500 it's quoted rm1750.27
*
Currently for SGD500, its more like RM1753.2 although for theSGD5k, its still ok for RM17502.68

QUOTE(Medufsaid @ Oct 21 2023, 09:43 AM)
RM1k -> SGD

  • Bigpay S$286.25 (note: this is before the RM4.50 transfer fee. first transfer with bigpay is free and i've not had a need to use bigpay since i created account)
  • money match S$284.39
  • wise S$285.78
  • instarem S$285.63
  • sunway money S$284.72

*
Thanks for the comparison
