TruboXL do u want to discuss this further (in case got relevance to our local fintech startup scene)?

to me it's just a one-off off-topic post in this SG bank thread only. don't think malaysians (non-PR type) are exposed

    • sunway money (don't think sunway money will really allow me to send more than RM50k, so why they allow this calculation is a mystery)

annoymous1234 just to be clear, you only received the email that moonsatelite received right? ("thank you for choosing CIMB your new account number can be found at the top right corner...") https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=108740297

have to wait for tuesday i think (bcos it's a manual process for them to send you sms)...

and after that, a long 2 week review process before you finally reach this

QUOTE
the account will be automatically closed within 30 calendar days from your application date.
if documents not in order/ or no bank approval, or any miscellaneous issue etc etc etc. the wordings seems to be slightly different each time

yea.. then your situation is unique, or CIMB SOP already changed from years ago. usually what happens is, u can still see amount details from CIMB MY side before CIMB SG actually approved/activated
QUOTE
Re my initial deposit for CIMB S'pore, I tested with S$1 transfer from my joint account in another Spore Bank.
It showed up in my CIMB clicks online and the linked Sg account is shown as "active". Then transferred another S$999 from the same joint account. Immediately reflected in the account as seen in my CIMB clicks.MY.

It's been 2 days, I've not received any activation code  for CIMB Clicks Sg.
Hmm, maybe need to contact them
*
QUOTE
I thought something not right as their approval email says they will send  a 6 digit  activation code via SMS, to enable log-in to Cimb.Sg within 1 business day after account is activated.

So, the 'active' status i see on Cimb Clicks. MY  does not mean that the account is actived.

annoymous1234 a tip here. you can either link by
  1. transferring S$1k from CIMB MY (expensive), or
  2. open an MBB sg acct now and transfer S$1k from MBB sg to CIMB sg https://www.maybank2u.com.sg/en/personal/cr...casa/index.page
route no. 2 will allow you to save on forex costs, but of cos that means you'll end up with 2 sg bank accts. CIMB sg used to allow deposits from wise for verification purposes but not anymore

why many like to open bank account in Singapore?

mainly bcos quite a lot of us here are IBKR users. cheaper to deposit, easier to withdraw

other various reason (some don't want to hold MYR)

GalaxyV many other currencies also. sending USD direct using wise is not cheap these days (USD1.19 per deposit), so if u only want to use wise, u can avoid that $1.19 by converting to EUR and sending that to IBKR

I use DBS MCA to convert my funds betw USD & SGD at close to interbank rates.

wise actually outperform DBS MCA. as IBKR outperforms Wise, it'll be IBKR>Wise>DBS. of course you cannot directly use IBKR as a money changer outright. u have to use the money to invest first
QUOTE
I just converted 6k USD to SGD
QUOTE
Just checked,
DBS: 60,000 usd -> 80,393.94 sgd
wise: 60,000 usd -> 80,749.09 sgd
mid: 60,000 usd -> 80,960.40 sgd

privatequity you can always deposit back some cash but don't be upset if they suddenly contact you asking for proof of residency.

i won't deposit any more cash as i don't intend to keep OCBC sg after the 1st year (after that have to keep S$3k min balance) anyway. You can find out and report to us

why?
  1. cheaper than midvalley rates
    https://cashchanger.co/malaysia/mc/max-mone...ey-megamall/520
    https://www.cimbclicks.com.sg/sgd-to-myr (please check during office hours only, more expensive during night time)

  2. if it's not the cheapest, CIMB will refund you the difference https://www.cimb.com.sg/en/personal/promoti...sfer-promo.html
