Which area in Kuching are you at?
*
Poh Kwong Park. When I first started using Streamyx in 2005, it was very bad with constant disconnection but now quite good. That's why I decided to upgrade to 4mbps when the price came down.

hey, i keep reading that its possible to ask tm to rewire the wiring from hse to pole.

do they charge for this service?

and usually is there a noticeable improvement in line quality?

thanks. =)
*
I got them to replace the line from the pole to my house when I complained that my phone has too much static (crackling sound). If your phone sounds fine, just tell them it happens intermittently esp when the weather's bad. Do not complain that your streamyx connection sucks. Streamyx and phone line are 2 different departments under Telekom. Big difference in streamyx stability after line changed!

Your Attenuation is a bit high and your SNR margin is a bit low.

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding

Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
> 20dB and below is outstanding
> 20dB-30dB is excellent
> 30dB-40dB is very good
> 40dB-50dB is good
> 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
> 60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

guys , for my case , now I subscribing to unipack 1mb and planning to upgrade to 4.0mbps. So  I emailed to Streamyx service center with my home no  to enquiry whether my place in in coverage of 4mbps service , they said yes . On last week , I went to Tmpoint to passed up my form on fri . Then I found out I have an appointment with the technician guy on Sunday at 10am , using tm self care :: Search Work Order Status :: . On Sunday , I wait until 1 2pm also no news from technician . So I sms him whether coming anot (credit run out , so use sms) . Then he replied after 30 40 mins , he said  'send me ur home no' . I sms him and he reply in 30 mins , and said '4.0m tak support kt rumah u' . I asked why , he said my place is more than 4.5km from exchange .

ok ,
1) why Streamyx said my place is supported ? but technician said cant support ? Maybe that day he lazy dont want to come ? watching too much world cup @@ ? will technician give some lame excuses in order to curi tulang ? Some of my friends , they experienced the same thing , that technician curi tulang dont want go to their house . I wonder ...

2) my neighbour is less than 800 meter from my house and he is using 4mb too =(
*
Actually, the technicians do not work for TM. They work for the agent of TM. So, no reason why they curi tulang cos they get commission from TM for work done. The more work, the more pay.

btw, guys.. based on my experience when I get 175.145 ip...
streamyx capped all connection speed..
youtube capped at 110kb/s, megaupload capped at 180kb/s and hotfile capped at 140kb/s...  sweat.gif
*
Speed is not capped by Streamyx but by megaupload and hotfile. U've to get premium accounts to have higher speed.

Happens to me too. I just switch off the modem, then switch it back on. Works most of the time. If not, repeat the procedure. doh.gif

G.dmt can support up to 8Mbit and is supposedly more stable (when the connection drops, it will reconnect straight away). Anyway, that's the info I got from somewhere. unsure.gif
