Went to TM Point on Fri to apply to upgrade to 4MB Blockbuster package. Today (yes on Sun, I was surprised too) the installer came to check my line and install the 4MB speed. Very quick service, so I'm happy.

He got me a 5MB cap. Is my SNR ok or not?

Is there any way to choose the IP address range? Currently I'm still on 115. How to get to 218?

Lastly, I just did a speed test. Speed still around 1.5Mbps (same as before). Installer says need 24 hours before they fully activate the 4MB speed. Is that true?

Does streamyx 4MB throttle ftp speeds?

My 4MB got activated today and speedtests are ok:



But when I dl using ftp (with IDM), speed is only 140-150 KBps:



What's wrong? BTW I'm on 175 ip range.

When doing speedtests I notice something funny. Using the P1 Speed Test, when start the test the first few seconds it will be like 2200-2300 kbps steady, then suddenly jump to 4500 for a short while, then the test ends and it will report 4500 as the speed.

Testing on speedtest.net also happens. It will be slow and steady for a while then suddenly shoot up. And speedtest will use the final speed in its report.

Does this happen to you all too?

Just did one test which is really weird. Stalled for a while then shoot up like crazy... look at this below!!!

My speed on 218 IP seems ok.

So far in my limited usage, both 175 and 218 IP seems to work ok.

My ftp still seems to be capped.

In the 2640B modem supplied by TM, is there a way to manually disconnect and connect the line from the web interface?

Is it a must that 5MB must use interleaved profile? Does higher speed broadband overseas also use interleaved profile?

Just wanting to know if this is a general tech limitation (meaning all over the world, 5MB and above must use interleaved), or just peculiar to TM.

Also in relation to latency, how much is added by interleaved? 50%, 100% ??

It is quite common to be swapped between different IP ranges. I don't think anyone here is forever only on 218 or only on 175. My line also switches between 218 and 175 IP.

This is what happened to me yesterday morning. Connected but nothing. I was so confused what was going on. Didn't know got dead IP one.

Anyway, after getting another IP everything is back to normal.

My 4MB was also activated within 24h after the installer came.

In my case the installer came then on the spot he request TM to increase my cap. Then he did a speed test (using some kinda test account), check SNR. Confirm all ok then he left. He did say for my own streamyx account it will be activated within 24h.

Means they capped you at 2MB, which is a mistake since you subscribed to 4MB. Email your screenshot to TM to point out the mistake and ask they rectify for you ASAP.

You will never get the full line speed. There are overheads and losses, so normally best also is 85%-90% of your line speed.

Man, speeds to Changchun suxx!

This one requires persistence - u need to continue hassling TM to get it fixed.

Anyway, mine so far is working fine 24/7.
