Speed up here at George Town is very unstable, some ip are fast, some are just... plain dead, for some reasons some p2p torrents just won't "catch on" (slower than my previous 1mbps 60.xx ips), and yet some will peak at above 450kbyte/sec. I can only get 218.111 and 175.145, but the 218.111 seems like the first choice because I can only get 175.145 during office hours and evening peaks.

Cable distance to DSLAM port (located at TM's exchange building next to Komtar) is less than 1km, port downstream cap is at 5mbps, but mode is interleaved. Downstream SNR margin is usually in the range of 25dB to 33dB, line attenuation is 11dB. Have not bothered to set up the free D-Link DSL-2640B yet, still on my ancient Aztech DSL305EW.

Question: Has anyone ever requested for the upstream cap to be opened to anything higher than 512kbps, eg. 640kbps, etc.?

Here's what I got during off peak hours:

Hello people, change topic a bit yeah, from downstream port speed to upstream port speed...

I just wanna ask, has anyone ever requested for a higher capping of upstream port rate, say from the default 512kbps to 640kbps?

Reason I am asking is that with 512kbps upstream, the max data rate is around 0.42mbps only, at best effort, there is no way to reach the claimed "512kbps best effort" advertised in the 2/4mbps packages.

Of course I think P2P torrent downloads will benefit more from a higher upstream data rate, I believe with a higher upstream rate, it can support more connections.
