Allow me to share my experience. I am a proud owner of HTC desire #16 from the Maxis promotion - bought it on Thursday.

I am already a post-paid Maxis subscriber with unlimited data package. I am not sure if I am eligible for the promotion, thus, I went to the booth and check with the maxis staff. After many rounds of asking, they have confirmed that I am eligible and not require to change my plan but I need to sign a 12 month contract which I am agreeable. After waiting for 10 minutes, they then ask me to go inside the Maxis centre and I went there to wait for another 10 minutes.

Upon my turn, I was ask which plan I would like to subscribe to and I mentioned that I do not want to change my plan. Then the staff said that I am not eligible. I was furious and ask her to check with the staff outside the centre. She went and checked and after a few minutes come back to me and confirm that I am not eligible. In that situation, I was so furious with anger and requested to speak to her superior or her superior's superior if they cannot make any decision.

Guess what? without even the requirement to see the superior, they allow me to purchase the handset at RM1,499 - the next question they ask me is Sir, you want to pay by cash or credit card?

Huh! WTF?

Cheers guy.

i just bought a screen protector from Digital Mall called CAPDASE for RM30. Its a bit rough surface but quality is good. I like it, recommended. I tried looking for Desire pouch but seems like whole Malaysia dont have.

Also dont have class 6 micro sd, only got class 4.
*
I also bought a screen protector from Low Yat and it is those Matt type but quite good - cost me around RM30. I have looked everywhere and only one shop carry the Desire screen protector

I bought a pouch at RM80, brand melkco - it's a generic pouch - those you can slip it to your belt. The dedicated pouch is not out yet. I have tried the one designed for Nexus One - but it hide the home and menu keys. Thus, I did not get that one

I want to get an additional charger and seems nobody have it. They say the charger is compatible with Nokia N97 and other Backberry charger, is it true?

Since I am new to this android, I need to ask a few question

1. I am unable to create a shortcut to show the notifications. Everytime, I need to press the menu key and then notification. Is there anyway I can create a widget or some kind of shortcut to the home menu?

2. Unable to use own sound as notification to email or sms arrival? Can only select based on those built in?

3. Can you select different sound for sms or email arrival - right now, any type of email/sms arrival - I have the same sound

I also want to share the software that I have installed since Thursday

1. ASTRO file manager
2. Youtube HD - replacing the built-in Youtube app
3. Advance task killer
4. chompSMS
5. WiFi On/Off Widget
6. Bluetooth On/Off Widget
7. Barcode Scanner
8. Advance Task Killer
9. Evernote
10. F1 Racing
11. MSN Talk
12. Roland Garros (from Gameloft)
13. Opera Mini
14. Places directory

Anybody can share what other games/app that is fun/crucial/must have?

I actually don't mind paying the USD4.99 but need to have some review if possible before making the purchase

Thanks

Hi JT, interested to know this because I am also an unlimited data package subscriber. Do you think I can "convince" them to let me purchase as well like you? I was thinking of waiting for outright purchase or maybe using my gf's line to purchase but if I work it out like you it will save much trouble!
*
Hmm, Alex, you can try but you need to talk to the manager instead of the staff outside because your case and mine are special cases where we do not want to "downgrade" our data plan. Good luck to you. But in anycase, you'll have to sign for 12 months on the data contract (maintaining the existing unlimited package)

I think johnson is not buying with no string attached.  He needs to sign a contract for 12 months.  Just that he dun want to "downgrade" his data plan to limited 500MB, 1.5GB or 3Gb as his (i think) is the old unlimited package.

I think it is logical Maxis to give this offer to existing unlimited data package user who do not have a contract with Maxis.  The main reason for the reduced price for the phone is to secure a 12 months contract with customer.
*
Consider myself a bit lucky but I did nothing wrong, in fact, I did not expect in the very beginning that I am eligible but yes, I did sign for 12 months contract with the existing package.

One question I want to ask
Menu-Settings-Wireless & networks - Mobile Networks - Access point name
-There are Maxis 2G Internet (net) and Maxis 3G Internet (unet)
- Which one should I use by default?
- If I select 2G, does that mean that I won't get HSPA speed in anywhere
- My home have very poor 3G coverage - only EDGE but in the office I have strong 3G network

Thanks

Hi Guys

I asked a question earlier but did not get any reply - need your help here
Under the Setting - Mobile data - there are couple of APN
- Maxis 2G Internet (net)
- Maxis 3G Internet (unet)

By default, my Desire is set for 2G Internet. Does that mean that I can't get the 3G speed. My home has very poor 3G coverage but in the office, it is very strong.
Should I change it to 3G internet?

just use the Maxis 3G settings, then set the network mode to GSM/WCDMA auto (not sure if this affects this but change this just to make sure) . The phone will switch from 3g to 2g(E on your bar) whenever you have a bad 3g connection, and switches back to 3g(3g or H on your bar) whenever you have a better connection. This might eat bit more battery cause of switching of different type of mode, and if you're on a call it might get cut off when the phone switches mode.
*
Thanks for the advice.
Hmm..seems that even if I set it to 2G, I still get 3G internet connections (show H on my phone). Just wandering should I switch it back
I have tried switching it to 3G but I did not get any connection at all. Not sure if anybody have experience that?

Guys,

I am currently in Shanghai for the Expo and other business meetings since Wednesday.
Using my desire for roaming, data roaming, wifi, blue-tooth in China with no issue. it ROCKS! However roaming charges can kill you - a phone call cost about RM7.35 per minute and data roaming is RM50 per 1 MB! Receiving call can end up RM20+ per minute. I seriously do not know how they charge.

I bought a new China SIM prepaid. However, have great difficulty of setting up the desire to use local SIM card with only WAP services for prepaid - no 3G
Due to language barrier as well, I was unable to set up the desire for the data usage. Maybe it also due to my un-familiarity with the Desire - I got to use it for a only 2 days before flying off here. Try all sort of things including setting up a new APN as per the instructions, converting to 2G and so on but to no avail.

So ended up putting the new China SIM card to my Nokia N79 and the WAP/GPRS works flawlessly without any setup - you just put the SIM card into the phone and it adjust automatically for you. I still have to pay great respect to my evergreen N79 in this respect.

However, whenever it has wifi connectivity, the desire rocks, it is able to detect Shanghai and sync the weather!

Can't wait to go back to KL and have back my 3G data in my desire

Not too sure if anybody experience the following issue

1. When turning off mobile network, and turning back...the system cannot turn on the EDGE/3G network. This mean cannot have data connection. So need to restart the phone and it is on back

2. The built-in internet browser cannot log-in to certain paid website like Malaysiakini or Dinodirect. Whenever I log in - it still bring me back to the log-in page.

3. Unable to find certain symbol like ©, ®, £, ¥, €, \, and some others

Anybody can help

Hi All,

Need some help.

Occasionally, i received the following message
"The process com.htc.bg has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"

Then there is only a Force Close button to press.

What is the above message all about. I think it only happens when I used the widget to able/disable the auto-sync. Maybe I am wrong. Please advise.

I bought a desktop charger for my HTC desire - which enable you to plug your HTC desire in a standing position while the charger is connected to USB or normal electrical point.

I am just wandering if here is any harm to put my HTC Desire in a continuous charging/syncing mode when I am at the office i.e. continuously put the Desire to the desktop charger which is connected to the PC. Would that reduce the lifespan of the battery?

Do you think we should provide a platform for us (the Desire community) to share applications, games? I have quite a bit of the applications and games which I would like to share but not sure how it can be done - the sharing process. BTW, I highly recommend the application SWYPE replacing the current Keyboard...once you use it, you will never want to go back to the normal tapping via touch screen.

Cheers

I bought the desktop charger from DinoDirect.com - cost me AUD29.59 including shipping and tax. Quite prompt their services, it arrived to my office within 7 working days as promised.

Games
1. World Attack - Abduction
2. Labyrinth
3. Armored Strike
4. Blow up

App
1. Lock 2.0
2. Swype - I downloaded from another forum

I have a whole lot more but Desire already running out of space..eagerly waiting for FROYO which I can installed to the SD rclxm9.gif

Can share a direct link to the charger? Is it this: http://www.dinodirect.com/htc-hd-mini-desk...usb-cradle.html? But it says for HTC HD Mini.

http://www.dinodirect.com/htc-desire-wall-...sb-battery.html

This is the link. Mine don't have the extra compartment to charge the extra battery - I do not intend to have a second battery. I intend to buy more from the website ....very good service

I see, thanks for the recommendation but overnight the price increase by USD$1? Cause you said 29.59 and the website is 30.59, like that need to quick quick buy liao lor.

By the way, the base of the charger says "Replacement for Google Nexus One..." What does that mean? Is it ok to use this to charge our Desire?
*
When you register for the first time with the DinoDirect, I think they will give you a bonus point equivalent to USD1 or something like that. You can use it straight away to deduct the current purchase or you can save for future purchase.

The base of my charger says USB Cradle - Made in China!!!! Ha Ha Ha, there is no Replacement for Google Nexus One

Hope that helps

i'm using swype as well..can say it is very good..now still getting used to it..sometime keep swype the wrong word lol
*
I am also happy that there are many swype users around. Let just say this, if there is only one application that you will buy, it will be SWYPE.
It hardly fail - even when swyping Malay words! It correct your typo almost immediately - it seems that it can read my mind on what I am typing - kinda scary. Sometimes, I accidentally swype a wrong key and it still comes up to be the correct word.

I have shown it to the iphone users and they are all impressed by my speed of swyping. Once you swype, you won't go back to touch which is so slow.

It's a bit laggy, but we are talking about 0.2- 0.3 seconds (not even 1 second) - this is still acceptable.

I strongly recommend Swype to all of you.

Guys, I am still having problem syncing my new FB to my phone.
Everytime I try to refresh the FB friends, it gives me an error The process com.htc.bg has stopped unexpectedly.

I have gone through other forum and find that it is the FB Syncing that caused the problem.

Anybody can help. Now in my phone, I am unable to add the new friends that I have made via FB. It cannot refreshed.

I linked my entire phonebook to FB : meaning those friends which have phone number and FB account are all linked but unable to do so for newly added friends via FB.

Guys, I encounter this situation and want to know if it is normal

1. In the car, I plug in the car charger. I also switch on the bluetooth - connected to my bluetooth car kit, switch on the Map Navigation, which in turn switch on the GPS. I also have the mobile data and sync on. Despite the phone being charged, it appears that the input is not enough to cover the output and the battery drop 5% every 10-15 minutes. That is really scary on the battery reliability.

2. Assuming you have the original time/weather as your homescreen. if you switch to another homescreen for some time and when you switch back to the homescreen, the time still show the previous time for a short moment - about 0.2 second. You virtually can see the clock change back to current time. This mean that there is some kind of lag. Is this normal?

Hi guys,

I have some questions which need your help greatly

1. Is there any way we could lock the desire to just use 3G ("G") or Edge ("E") and not 3.5G ("H"). I was reliably informed that having the phone to constantly switch between these network drained the battery a lot

2. How do you change the album art - I notice that some of the album art of certain songs are incorrect and I can't find a way to change the picture

3. Do you normally charge your phone when it has gone down to a certain level or it does not matter? Is it advisable to constantly charge your phone?

4. What is the most efficient way to copy the old micro-SD card to the new-micro SD card? Is it copy all to a temp folder in the PC and then re-transfer it to the new micro-SD? If that is the case, will it copy all the hidden files as well?

Thanks guys

Guys,

Have anybody experience issue or problem when using the Bluetooth on/off widget? I notice that after a few times on/off using the widget, it hangs - the message of Bluetooth is turn off doesn't go away and I am unable to turn off the bluetooth. The only way I can "kill" the message is by turning off the phone and turning on again. Can anybody help?

The quickoffice that come installed with the Desire when you buy it from Maxis is read only right? I would assume we need to purchase to upgrade it to edit version? I have recently downloaded another application on Document to Go which allow editing. Anybody use that before? Should I uninstall the quick office before installing this application?

Called up Maxis yesterday and ask about the promo with HTC desire. I am actually thinking of buying a second set for my wife. She is a maxis subscriber but currently under my family package. I asked if I can buy the phone on the promo price if I upgrade the supplementary line to the data plan and sign for 12 months ....they ask around and the answer is YES! Wow!

Now in a dilemma - Should I buy this phone for her now, the only setback is the phone battery really suck big time and I am sure women user don't like it...not a matter for me since I am charging it all the time...or should I wait a bit longer for the new OS

I am thinking of buying a Micro SD card for my HTC Desire. Read from the forum that we should be going for 8 GB Class 6. Should I go for 16GB Class 6 instead? How much is a Micro SD card Class 6 16Gb - where do you guys buy...I went to a few shop, nobody knows about the Class 6, Class 2 thingy. It's kind of troublesome for me to go to LowYat...any other place?
