Allow me to share my experience. I am a proud owner of HTC desire #16 from the Maxis promotion - bought it on Thursday.

I am already a post-paid Maxis subscriber with unlimited data package. I am not sure if I am eligible for the promotion, thus, I went to the booth and check with the maxis staff. After many rounds of asking, they have confirmed that I am eligible and not require to change my plan but I need to sign a 12 month contract which I am agreeable. After waiting for 10 minutes, they then ask me to go inside the Maxis centre and I went there to wait for another 10 minutes.

Upon my turn, I was ask which plan I would like to subscribe to and I mentioned that I do not want to change my plan. Then the staff said that I am not eligible. I was furious and ask her to check with the staff outside the centre. She went and checked and after a few minutes come back to me and confirm that I am not eligible. In that situation, I was so furious with anger and requested to speak to her superior or her superior's superior if they cannot make any decision.

Guess what? without even the requirement to see the superior, they allow me to purchase the handset at RM1,499 - the next question they ask me is Sir, you want to pay by cash or credit card?

Huh! WTF?
Hi JT, interested to know this because I am also an unlimited data package subscriber. Do you think I can "convince" them to let me purchase as well like you? I was thinking of waiting for outright purchase or maybe using my gf's line to purchase but if I work it out like you it will save much trouble!

Hmm, Alex, you can try but you need to talk to the manager instead of the staff outside because your case and mine are special cases where we do not want to "downgrade" our data plan. Good luck to you. But in anycase, you'll have to sign for 12 months on the data contract (maintaining the existing unlimited package)

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't mind signing the contract as I intend to keep it anyway. I'll try and go to KLCC next week when I'm free. By the way any chance of you "recommending" me the manager you spoke to?

Hi Guys

I asked a question earlier but did not get any reply - need your help here
Under the Setting - Mobile data - there are couple of APN
- Maxis 2G Internet (net)
- Maxis 3G Internet (unet)

By default, my Desire is set for 2G Internet. Does that mean that I can't get the 3G speed. My home has very poor 3G coverage but in the office, it is very strong.
Should I change it to 3G internet?

From my understanding, if you have the old unlimited data package you should set to unet (Maxis 3G Internet) as it will automatically use the highest speed network available. So if have HSDPA it will use it and if not it will go down and use EDGE etc...

just use the Maxis 3G settings, then set the network mode to GSM/WCDMA auto (not sure if this affects this but change this just to make sure) . The phone will switch from 3g to 2g(E on your bar) whenever you have a bad 3g connection, and switches back to 3g(3g or H on your bar) whenever you have a better connection. This might eat bit more battery cause of switching of different type of mode, and if you're on a call it might get cut off when the phone switches mode.

Ah yes forgot to add that network mode must be auto as well...my bad.
