Save money, dont buy. The multitouch is probably a hardware limitation, will never be fixed on Desire. How about Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone 4G or HTC Evo 4G? Dont get Desire la, old model liao, so many bug also - damn sien.
that's right, the multitouch is due to hardware, cant do much bout it...desire is still pretty much still a high-end phone...but yeah in some aspect it's "outdated"...
i believe complicated software / UI / applications are bound to some bugs one way or another...the question is: can you accept some of the workarounds to temp solve the issues?

you just need to get more information on the phone you are interested in, know the pros and cons, so that you will not regret later after using the device...if you are worried bout video sync and multitouch, then wait for either iphone 4G/HD (i'm pretty much confident on iphone multitouch capability as it pretty much used for games) or samsung galaxy S...
but know this, other phones are not perfect either...example: 1 design flaw of the Samsung galaxy S (to me) is the lack of LED notification, if you miss a call or a sms come in but you didnt know bout it, you wont know until you wake the phone up and you would need to refer to the screen to check if the phone is fully charged as there's no LED indication to tell you that the phone has fully charged...on the other hand, desire has LED notification and will not have these problems...
so just get a phone that you are comfortable with and dont really mind bout the spec too much, all the phone you buy now, will probably get outdated in the next 6 months...
