I m also thinking of getting Desire while waiting for EVO. When EVO come later, give Desire to my wife. She is still using oldy SE.

I am pretty sure there will be a EVO for 3G, just like Milestone to Droid. HTC will sure try to milk as much cash as possible from the specs of EVO. Change from 4G/CDMA to 3G GSM will not be difficult. Anyway, this is a Desire thread.... let's forget about EVO.

i think any 3G sim card is ok but you may not connect via Maxis for data. You need to connect via WiFi. Just use it like normal phone but without 24 hours 3G data connection.

I am waiting too. But on second thought, why not get the Desire now and get familiar with Android. When EVO comes later, change to EVO and pass Desire to my wife.

RM50 is for call charges, if you calls and sms exceed RM50, of course you will be charged more. Same goes to data plan - exceed limit must surely gotta pay more. If not, what are the more expensive call plan value80, 100 and data 1.5GB and 3Gb or whatever for?

RM50 is the minimum call plan and RM48 (RM58 less RM10 rebate for 1 year) 500MB data plan is the minimum data you must subscribe to buy Desire at RM1,499. If you usage is higher, you may want to subsribe to more expensive call/data plan.

I think johnson is not buying with no string attached. He needs to sign a contract for 12 months. Just that he dun want to "downgrade" his data plan to limited 500MB, 1.5GB or 3Gb as his (i think) is the old unlimited package.

I think it is logical Maxis to give this offer to existing unlimited data package user who do not have a contract with Maxis. The main reason for the reduced price for the phone is to secure a 12 months contract with customer.

There is always some learning curve for smartphone like this. You should buy it and play with it at home while browsing thru the User Guide. **dun come here posting questions which answers can be easily found in the user guide like some of the new Desire users here**

My wife always complain that her SonyEricson's interface is not user friendly like her previous Nokia (both are oldie phones).

you already have a data plan contract with telco? If not why not sign up for the plan and get the discounted price which is cheaper than AP and with longer warranty. I doubt AP set can get any support if the phone have problem. If dislike Maxis package, you can wait for Digi to launch later this month. They should have a similar package if not better.

to those lucky guys/gals who already have this great gadget for a while now:

1. How do you rate the build quality of this phone? Do you think it will last for 2 years at least with normal wear and tear?
2. Any minor or major annoying unresolved problems? I heard the Motorola Milestone has some unfixed problems.
3. Does it worth the price - RM1,499 or whatever price you bought at?

sound serious. The phone's battery is totally flat in the box? Can't we at least turn it on when getting the phone at Maxis to make sure this problem not occurring?

I am still thinking whether to get a Spore set at S$750, about RM1,800 or get the subsidized ones from Maxis/Digi.

After much consideration, i might not need a 24-hours data plan. Most of the places I hang around have Wi-Fi - my own house, my office, my parent's or my in-law's houses. I have already connected to internet long enough time every day at home and office, maybe should be refrained from getting too connected.
