Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a new laptop before I go overseas to study in 2011 and I need a recommendation.
- Gaming (Team Fortress 2 and maybe MW2) - Movies and Music - Preferably not Acer (I heard it's pretty lousy?) - Considerable weight (I am a guy so it won't be to bad if it's a little heavier than normal) - 15 or 16" ? - Budget about RM2.5k
Thanks!

Oh that's good. Asus A42JV is using Core i5 and.. Dell XPS 16 is using Core i7. Does that put XPS's performance > Asus A42JV's performance?

Well, overall performance I guess? Cos I'm not really clear about the differences of i5 and i7
and apparently. Dell XPS 16 is more for video editing? Is this true/?

QUOTE(miahahaha @ Jun 29 2010, 08:49 PM) Cannot ask like this because different people got different taste ..if you ask me, i'll go for A42Jv because its 14" (my fave size)..but still, with Dell SXPS16, you get a FullHD screen which is good for people that need a larger workspace compared to A42Jv which is only HD res only ... For me, i would still go for A42Jv ..but the choice is yours Hmm, where's the best place to purchase Asus A42Jv then? I'll have to dig up more information and get the 'best' deal, since I'm gonna be using this laptop for quite some time!

I went to my neighborhood computer shop, and the fella recommended HP CQ42-1777X (if I'm not mistaken is the HP G42 and G42t series) and Acer 4741G. Both of which has almost similar specs as Dell SXPS 16 though it is only 14" and no full HD screen. However, it cost RM2.6k and offers a 3 year warranty.
He recommended me to not purchase the Asus A42Jv because the service after purchase is poor. What are your thoughts on this?
Also, he mentioned it is ATI-RADEON 512MB, but it can boost to 1GB. Is the performance of that graphic card far off from NVIDiA 1GB?

Phew, if I didn't come here and ask around. I would've purchased the HP!
But, the Dell SXPS 16 which cost RM2999 is only : Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 3MB Cache) not Intel Core i5?

Yea, it's RM4099. Pretty much way out of my budget. From this link: http://www1.ap.dell.com/my/en/home/noteboo...cs=mydhs1&s=dhsLet's say I upgrade the RM2999 SXPS to i5 without tweaking the specs to RM4099 standard. Do you guys know much it would cost?

I see, but the P8700 is efficient enough you say? But the awesomeness of Core i5 makes me wanna own it. Hahaha
So I'm guessing both of you are still thumbs up for the Asus?

Lol, in my mind, I keep thinking i5 is the fastest processor > better performance > laptop last longer.
I don't know. Haha. But let's say I'm going to Melbourne, Australia next year. Will I get the warranty support over there? Or is Asus not well known there?

QUOTE(miahahaha @ Jun 30 2010, 05:00 PM) SXPS16 got FullHD screen ..can view 1080p videos with excellent view I know, sounds very tempting. But FullHD screen is not on the top of the list for me. I'll look more into Asus. Sigh, buying laptop very stressful.

Hey guys, I want to ask whether it's recommended to get a laptop now. I'm leaving overseas early next year. Or should I wait? Apparently there's a new fusion base thing?

Well. I can't tahan my current antique laptop. Watch YouTube also laggy. And I would probably want to get used to W7. Been using xp for a long time.
Yes, I'm currently looking at Asus A42Jv.

Which is better? Asus A42Jv or A42Jk? Jk processor is i5-520 and jv is only i5-450. Does it really make a difference or just slight improvement? Jk : ATI 5145 1GB DDR3 Jv : Nvidia GT335M 1GB DDR3 How does the g card compare to each other? The price isn't that far apart too.
How about those laptops compared with Acer Aspire 5741G-524G50MN Nvidia GT 320M 4GB DDR3 @2999
