Hi,would really appreciate it if anyone could recommend me possibly two laptops. One for me,and another one for my sister who's into graphic design.

For me:

1. Brand: Preferably not from Acer.My last one broke in half (opening and closing motion of the screen was too much I suppose) after 2,3 years. Maybe a Dell,I heard they have great after-purchase value, or an Asus or anything else that would suit me.

2. Budget: +/- Rm2k (Could go to 3k if it really is worth the money)

3. Specs: Everyone's talking about this new intel;i-processors. Was just wondering if those core 2 duo processor are about to be obsolete. Anyway, I'm just a student with basic needs I suppose. Nothing high end. Just for it to be able to support those engineering softwares (autocad etc) and maybe a few image editing ( illustrator, gimp etc) without it lagging by much.

I don't really mind about portability, I guess it be pretty much a desktop replacement for me. Just would like it to last long (possibly 5 years?),and possible to stay on for long hours without sending it to hell.

4. Size: 14/15 not too small atleast.

Ive been looking around, and the ones that caught my eyes are:
-Samsung R580 (read a review on pcmag.com,seems like a prefect match, not sure if this is available in Malaysia, thus not sure about the price)
-Asus U30Jc-1A,UL30A-A1,UL80Vt-A1 (I'm very vague on how to differentiate them, but reviews seems good,so,just putting it here just in case)
-Those dell laptops they have on dell.com.my.I saw an inspiron 14R going on at Rm2099 and the Studio 14 at Rm3199. Is the extra 1k worth it?

For my sister:

Brand: Any,but I'm under this assumption that Macs are way better when it comes to graphic design.

Budget: +/-Rm 3k (Or cheaper,if possible =P)

Specs: Since shes into graphic design, I suppose a machine that could handle heavy software like Photoshop/Illustrator with ease. Big harddisk space, and, uhm, sorry, but I'm not really sure what are a designer needs, maybe some help here?

Size: 15/16? The bigger the better right? But she has to go back and fourth to college with this,so,maybe a big screen, but on the light side possibly?

Yup,so,please, the best recommendations if possible. Thanks in advance.

I've posted past few days wanting recommendations on a few laptops.
Since then,I've bought the Asus A52J (i5-430M,upgraded to 4 gigs ram) at rm2870.
This was for my sister which is into graphic design.Did I bought it at a decent price?

I'm currently looking one for me.Was thinking about getting the same laptop as above as the price seemed attractive.
Would love to know if theres any other lappy out there with a better or similar spec at the same (preferably lower) price.

Btw,got my eye on the vostro 3700.But heard you could only get a unit online. How long does it usually take before I could my hands on it?

Thanks in advance icon_question.gif

for the a52j [JK or JR..???] with the specs that you stated... the price is good actually..
anyway... with your budget [i assume it is below RM 3k] ..

Dell Vostro 3700 [17"] is a good idea , but my suggestion.. go for Dell SXPS 16 , smaller size [16 / 15.6 "] with powerful graphic[slightly better than GT330 but no CUDA technology] and higher clock speed processor...

i think.. if you order it today.. you can get it around 2 weeks[or maybe more... you can confirm it with SA]

JK.Out of luck finding the JR.

Erm,the DELL sxps is tempting, but the proc in it is old right?
I'm trying to find a desktop replacement if possible, able to withstand long operating hours and not likely to overheat, and able to survive a good 3,4 years.

Any thoughts on the lenovo G450 or some BenQ(S something, cant recall).Decent specs, with an awesome price to boot (just around rm2K if im not mistaken).Or are these just too old.
