I would like some advice on which to choose between Alienware M11x or Vaio VPC-EA16FG.

Purposes of purchase:- Work, Multimedia and Gaming (Casual to Moderate)

I know that Alienware is at the moment the best in gaming, but Dell only provide display card for DirectX 10.1 (for M11x). Other than that, I think M11x is ok.

Vaio, on the other hand provide ATI HD 5650 for DirectX 11, but the battery is not quite good as Alienware.

For gaming, is it important to have display card with DirectX 11 capabilities? My most demanding in terms of graphic at the moment is Hitman Blood Money. I also play Fifa Manager 09, Warcraft, Need for Speed and Grand Theft Auto. I read somewhere that another game I play, Civilization, will require DirectX 11.

If I buy Alienware with display card for DirectX 10.1 capabilities, can I upgrade the display card software to DirectX 11?

Please advise me.

   A reliable brand (good customer service , and possibly user friendly)

2.Budget
   Budget would be around 3-3.5k , 4k can also

3.Specs
   Im looking for a laptop which can last for 5 years
   Can handle engineering programs like Autocad and the like
   battery life more than 6 hours if possible
  

4.Size
   I dont mind if the screen size is small , as long as it shows the information thats there im fine
   the laptop should be light and portable enough to carry around college or uni
  

additional info :
1. im starting college soon and my course requires me to complete a large number of assignments

2.im also flying off next year , so to make it easier to contact families and friends , ill be getting skype . so i think it would be good if the laptop had a built in webcam and came with a headset 

3.im a light-medium  gamer , the only game i'll play on the laptop would be football manager and maybe a few old games  like company of heroes or left for dead

4.im not really computer savvy so if possible im trying to find a laptop which if possible has a 0% chance of getting viruses and does not have many technical problems  . for example my sisters compaq's battery pack is already dead and she has to rely on the plug to keep it on

5.ive done my homework and people mainly recommended the thinkpad series , macbook pro and the dell latitude series. among these which is the best  value ?

6.which companies have very good customer service in canada , because ill be heading  there next year .

and i need you guys to clarify this  thing for me

i heard ASUS laptops are good but they easily have problems with the specs and stuff  which turns me off getting them .is this true in any sense ?

I guess you're talking about the A42Jv-VX042V. What I see is normal promotion, Rm2899, 2 year warranty (1 year + free 1 year warranty), laptop carry bag, then the usual pack of free gift hamper.

I am looking for a laptop for a budget less than RM 3.5k

1. I will be bringing it to the UK so i believe warranty do matters.
2. I guess i am looking for 14" as i dont want it to be heavy/bulky
3. Heat dissipation- as my previous laptop (HP TX200), it get really hots
4. Software capability- I will be using it to do some engineering drawings like PRO- E/AutoCad/Matlab and so on.
5. Gaming- I might used it for some gaming like COD/ GTA and so on.
6. Speed- My concern will be the speed of the laptop for my usage except gaming.

As I am going to KL soon (maybe PC Fair Period), so I will just grab 1 when I am in KL.

From what i read tru the forum, I understand that Asus A42JV is the most recommended, is it?

Hi all the laptop pro, can you guys recommend me laptop for working usage ?
- dun need good graphic cards, this laptop will not be using for gaming at all
- need good processor speed
- need 4gb ram
- need win 7 professional
- dun need pretty design, just simple pure black laptop will be fine
- need reliability
