Hi, I have successully added some subtitles to MKV movies that didn't come with subtitles. But I encountered an error in one of the movie. I have opened the .srt file in notepad and located the error, but I don't know what the number code after the time code mean. Anyone can help me out?

e.g this 3 lines below, what do the codes in Bold mean?

"1300
01:40:36,264 --> 01:40:39,700
What if I could direct you"

That it milisecond iinm.
Don't just edit with notepad if you don't know, you might screw up another thing. Use subtitle editor program such as SubMagic. It can fix error, edit timing & some other useful thing.

Thanks for your help. It is just 1 corrupted line, so I think notepad will suffice for now.

why edit the notepad?
Just rename the .srf file to make it same as your movie name.

Example:
your movie file is: mymovie1.avi
rename the .srf file into: mymovie1.avi.srt

. Do you understand what I am talking about or not ?

Thats the basic stuff..

But life is never that simple...some movies get cut at the front by encoders making it difficult to source for a sub thats has that same timing....or subs that are sources from SSA (Bluray) that includes style and picture fonts that are just makes a mess of it after conversion...hence some editing is required for more advance users.

For me I use SubtitleEdit..but of course there are a few programs out there that does more or less the same thing.

another alternative :
Download a new subtitle.. or download a subtitle from other release. Test the new subtitle on a pc first and see whether the new subtitle that you download is synchronizes with the movie or not..
