Hi,
.
Last month I did some benchpress and also some should exercise. Thereafter I got some sharp throbbing pain between my shoulder blades (left) and centre of my back. Did put to much notice on this since last year got the same item, so rested and it went away.
.
However after a month, the pain is still there and sometimes, I can feel that it’s spreading to my left arm straight to the fingers where I can get ‘pins and needles’ occasionally. It’s painful plus irritating and mostly the pain is on the left i.e. hands, head turning to the left etc. My left arm now is ‘lenguh’ not sure how to translate in English.
.
Last weekend went for a massage the masseur kinda like press the tender portion of my bottom left arm near armpits since she noticed that the muscles are hard and not relaxed. So there goes the painful experience etc. Similar to the back as well she massaged the painful points, and every push is not without a sharp pain.
.
I’m not sure whether this is normal but I’m worried since
A) it’s been a month – now taking pain killers and muscle relaxant i.e. voren n anarex
B) My left arms hurt badly. Tried to go back to the gym just testing out, noticed my left arm is considerably weaker….
C) It’s really affecting my concentration and focus.
.
Anyone had this problem before and is this serious??? I’m contemplating to go to a sports clinic in Taman Bahagia or in Damansara Heights…
.
Any opinion is much appreciated.
.
Thanks

Guess is you trained with wrong form. i dunno how to explain the details. but yes, seeing a specialist is best.
best you lay off training until you know what you're doing wrong where and correct it.

if you're taking pain killers the pain might be injury due to bad form or other issues. agree with neek. should consult specialist or a doctor at least

Hi Neek and Mike,
.
Thanks bro. Sheesh sseing the specialist really does sound serious. Would you know the problem??? Quick google read about this rotator muscle injury....Some of the thread as well they mentioned got similar problem, and all of it hits the left side of the shoulder??
.
Is it because majority of us are right handed therefore right is stronger?
.
Will make the appointment soonest and post my report....
.
Thanks

DROP the barbell bench press.

Go for dumbbells OR/AND machines (preferably Hammer Strength or Cybex).

Train smart, bodybuilding is about feel. (Why can't some of you people get this simple statement? Zzzzz)

And yes i had the problem. I RESTED.

Hi guys,
.
Dun get me wrong.....I've rested - one month I've laid out the gym workout. But still the pain did not go away, therefore thought I should start to work out again and even then did minimal sets....somehow my left arm is not responding....Tried to push but the left arm was like no juice left....
.
Last weekend, went for a massage. The massager mentioned my muscles are in knots therefore push like there's no tomorrow laaa.....maybe salah urat tekan perhaps?
.
Anyway will rest and thanks for the advice.
.
maybe getting old and the body cannot take so much abuse.....
.
sorry what do you mean bodybuilding is about FEEL?? Care to share? hope to learn bro..
.
But for now, gotta rest...am using salonpas now at the shoulder....some relief but can still feel it..ouch......

i used to had the same prob here. but it is cause by an accident i had last year. but now it seem go away but my left shoulder a bit weaker now. so i'm trying to train my left shoulder to balance it back. my advise is take a balance food consisting protein calcium and multivitamin to build up the tissue and strenghten your body and bone.

having a positive mindset would help. everyone has injuries before i'm sure. its how fast we recover from them. Training by FEEL imo its not something you can learn overnight. Basically shift your mindset from: I need to do x amount of sets today to; gonna push myself until my body screams at me to stop. thats my own opinion btw, trying to learn from the seniors here also tongue.gif.

It has been a month. There's probably more to it. Go seek a physiotherapist.

For my case, i started by workset with incline bench press, weird thing is i noticed the barbell was bending down towards my right side, indicating my supposely stronger right side was failing me. I warmed up pretty well before that, noticing my right shoulder was stiffer than usual and slight pain when stretching. (did shoulder+legs 2 days before)

However I did manage to end my chest+biceps workout lacklusterly (unfortunately).

So since a week plus ago, my right shoulder has limited rotation, pain like hell even when i brushes my teeth and right shoulder+arm weak as a 5yo girl. Neck and right Lats has stiffness. Just did my third day of physiotherapy, still pain if not more and still trying to determine the real prob, either can be neck's nerve prob or shoulder tendonitis or both.

Will drop by daily to physiotherapy in my hospital when i have spare time.

Note:You might be actually masking the real problem by taking pain killers. Get the real diagnosis first.

Maybe you guys just need to lay off all those bench press for a while and start doing super high volume of pulls and rows.
Moderately light to moderately.

I've listened to an interview with Eric Cressey that he had some shoulder problem, and was scheduled for surgery a month or so later.
He couldn't do presses, so he did a crazy amount of pulling movements (DB rows mainly) using moderate light to moderate weights.
Lots of sets, lots of reps (up to 20), high frequency (sometimes multiple times a day since it's not heavy weights).

If you could do this, perhaps it could help with you. But note that this is a suggestion, not a cure.

It's most likely a rotator cuff injury then.

Bb is about feel
1. don't do something which feels uncomfortable for you
2. know your body
3. go by instinctual training once you have the right exercise techniques and exercise knowledge
4. don't force yourself to hit a particular poundage when you don't feel like it.

Feels almost like all 4 sentences are repeating itself no? Eg just cos everyone says the bench press is the king of chest exercises but it doesn't work for you, don't do it.
just cos everyone says the squat is the king of leg exercises but it doesn't suit your body structure, etc. don't do it.

Sounds like you may have pulled a muscle. It is best to consult an orthopaedic doctor to make sure it is not anything serious. He will usually recommend you to get some physiotherapy. That is better than going to just for massage as the physio will also teach you the correct exercises that you can do at home. If you are reluctant to see an orthopaedic consutant, sometimes you can go direct to the physiotherapist and they may give you correct advice as to whether you need to consult an orthopaedic doctor first.

When I had a frozen shoulder I went to a normal clinic where the doctor recommended pain killers when he should have asked me to consult a physiotherapist.
