Compact is just basically loose powder compacted in a easy to carry container.

Loose powder - use at home after your foundation to get rid of shine. Or if you're like me and lazy to use foundation most times - use loose powder a few mins after moisturiser with no foundation.

Compact powder - carry along with you for touch ups for when you get all shiny, lol.

Loose powder is as it's name suggests. It's like the original form.
Pressed powder is loose powder that has been pressed into a pan/tin and put into a compact case.
Compact powder is often times a powdered foundation.

Loose powder usually comes in translucent/no colour but there are some with light tinting tho nowhere near as strong as compact powder foundations.

I've tried the ZA vitamin powder as an all over setter after my foundation. Works decently for the price and is non-comedogenic.

I'm in love with my Paul and Joe Loose Powder(RM180 for the big peach container, fluffly puff and refill - looks like something right out of an old hollywood movie ^^) Very well milled and does aid in smoothing out the complexion (I'm often lazy to put on foundation in the mornings so this goes right over my moisturiser or sunscreen). I have very oily skin and this seems to hold quite well in air-cond environments. Even with my one hour lunch break in the super hot sun of subang jaya. Only start to shine at about 5-ish.

MAC blotting powder is a good pressed powder for touchups during the day. Nice that it's virtually colourless.

Consider trying RMK's compact powder foundation? I don't own one but when I tried it as the shops it did make me look quite polished happy.gif I would have bought it if I didn't already have a ton of powder foundations I haven't used up yet. I'm more of a liquid kind of girl and my powdered foundations are usually for touchups and I keep forgetting to touchup all the time XD

If you have yellow undertones to your skin please don't go for Revlon or L'oreal. I had one too many pale-faced days thanks to those two brands and I would never wish it on anyone else.

Oh! you could try mineral foundation from LovingMinerals.com. Great service and it's KL based happy.gif The nice thing about mineral foundations is that a lot goes a long way and you get some decent coverage as well.

I've tried a few brands of loose and pressed powders myself, and found that the best for controlling oil control are:

Loose: Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder
Pressed: Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder

They are both very sheer and natural though, so if you're looking for something with coverage these will not cut it.

try l'oreal, maybelline..good start off for beginners..i was using that before..
i have sensitive skin, but that work for me too..^^

but before you plunge into makeup...take care of your skin first..
makeup is just to enhance the beauty of your skin..not to cover up everything
cleansing , moisturizing, is a must yea..
and after you makeup, makeup remover is a must to remove every chemical that was left on your face at the end of the day.
i used baby lotion instead of makeup remover though..find it better for my skin, and works the same, at lower pricing^^

the pressed powder that i have been using for years.. still using it now is HABA's pressed powder. it's non cakey, really light yet gave very very little coverage. i don't really use foundation and everything.. so, i use this most of the times after face primer.. or if i use BB cream, i will use pressed powder to set it... however, those who have darker skin might find this too whitish? but i have fair skin .. so, it looks colorless on my face. hehe! it mattified my skin as well. non clog pores. price at RM105 and refill will be RM80.

hi,

L'egere Aqua & Shiny Pearl BB Powder (recommended by kevin in lady first tvbs)

the micro-particle powder is adhered to thinly with silky feeling, it expresses skin tone finely.
The sebum control powder and minerals such as coral and pearl powder are adhered to the sebum effectively that makes the skin glossy. So it maintains the skin tone more freshly.

I've tried Palgantong, Bobbi Brown's, Monave Minerals and Everyday Minerals. The last 3 are pretty good but Palgantong's stuck out like artificial skin. ^^;; Though all 4 keep my face shine-free for hours.
