QUOTE(sexualpower @ May 26 2010, 01:10 PM) that sounds terrible~ my ST2210's backlight bleed is not that noticeable and even none existent for normal usage~ for the U2311H to be worse than the 2209WA, which is an old version of the ST2210, I guess this is where the U series is lacking~ 2209WA is in its own league (Ultrasharp series) and currently in revision A02, ST2210 is never its successor. For new U23/U22, the quality of Ultrasharp LCD may have dropped to translate a better pricing, but with the same premium panel warranty and great stand with better viewing angle, I would say it is still a great deal in consumer market.

QUOTE(kianwee @ May 26 2010, 02:44 PM) Spot on! Finally someone who knows what they're talking about. Thanks. For DELL 2209WA, one quirk that bothers me though. The brightness adjustment is meaningless. It is overly bright out of the box especially at night, tune down brightness does not help dimming it. Now using with lower contrast setting for a more pleasant view. Other than that, it is simply superb. New Ultrasharp user, do you have this problem?

My reasons are:
1. I value panel quality much more than pixel count. 2. I do not have true 1080P movie, most of them are wider than 16:9. 3. I need more vertical pixels for productivity. 4. My GC isn't powerful to handle games in 1080P. 5. I can't afford U2410 yet.
My two cents.

DP= Display Port, smaller than DVI, capability as DL-DVI IIANM, commonly found in Apple Macs and Cinema Display.
DL-DVI = Dual Link DVI, same port as DVI but more pins to provide extra bandwidth for transferring huge data for resolution above 1920x1080 which normal DVI couldn't deliver.

I have 2209WA and I believe the non-standard aspect ratio adds up to the price. It has a 16:10 aspect ratio than the widely popular 16:9. Same goes to 17' 4:3 ratio monitor.

Good for me. 30% game, 10% movie, rest surf and work hence extra vertical space does help but depends on people. Being an IPS, its strengths have been discussed previously, nothing to add. No comparison with CCFL LCD/LED as I migrated from a CRT.

Not to condemn on TN. They are really not bad, in fact were crown of the market some time ago, even now. But, with the cheap IPS coming to emerge, reality hurts when you know spending a little more could bring you better panel. Unlike last time where IPS is only meant for richie.
IMO, viewing angle could hamper the color uniformity overall even you don't really view it at extreme angle, esp on big screen. The bigger screen you have, the more your eye balls move to fit the larger scope of vision. This is where your sight and screen not perpendicular, and color shift comes in as you view from end to end. This is why I feel okay using office 15' TN but 24' TN turns me away.
Thus, make a wise choice as LCD will stay quite a long time till next upgrade, as it's always the last to upgrade after your rig.

He is seeing different hue of colors which may not be captured well by camera. But sometimes, these aspects are very subjective as people perceive color in different ways.

QUOTE(cpmboy @ Sep 5 2010, 12:06 PM) yo all u 2209wa owners, is there a way to change the native resolution to 1680 x 1050 at 75 hz.....(now its only 60hz). Some people in Hard Forum did that. You may look into it but I don't see the need for that. Just google. This post has been edited by catsper: Sep 5 2010, 06:48 PM

QUOTE(ktek @ Oct 2 2010, 11:10 AM) strong backlight. u try 100% brightness on white screen best! 2209, 2410, 3008 all hot. others i never experience wait until u got a 30" heater in front of ur face Of course strong, 2209WA has 6 CCFL lamps instead of 4 compared to others if I am not mistaken, thus higher power consumption and brighter white. But brightness above 80% is unbearable in my room condition, too bright. I am at 30% brightness, no heat issue. This post has been edited by catsper: Oct 2 2010, 07:06 PM

Ultrasharp should come with ~1.5 cm bezel. Two monitors side by side should bring you 3 cm width.
