Got keys to new house not long ago... now headache about some (minor) renovation thingy ...
need some advice

1) WC ventilation
I ask my fren how did those ceiling type WC ventilation/exhaust fan works, he said need ducting so the air/whatever can go outdoor ..
then one of the contractor told me no need ducting, cuz it only suck nothing else but hot air ...
doesn't sounds logical, i thut the ventilation fan oso suck air, moisture, bacterias (maybe) and etc ...
if no ducting then all this thing will be deposit to my root lor?

2) shower
Was planning to install solar heater ..but stepped back due to the cost (heater itself + cost per point + tiles) .. so I go for individual heater,
but again the contractor told me if use individual heather then the original shower/shower head will rendered useless,
cuz normally heater got it own shower head ... i'm thinking individual heather + original shower head ...
does that again required hacking wall, re-do piping, tiling? Is there any other solution?

3) aerial wall plug
I have 2 aerial wall plug come with the house ... thut wanna use that to connect astro ...
but my fren told me astro and traditional aerial use different connector ..... is that true?
how 'bout astro byond?

thanks

1) Suck hot air is considered useful to me. My bathroom doesn't have the wc ventilation, and after having a hot shower, the bathroom is warm for quiet some time although it already got two small window..

2) In the water heater manual, it is not recommended to change the shower head. I can't remember whether it is not advised, or it is not allowed.. and probably will affect the warranty.. Maybe someone with the manual on his hands right now can clarify further.

3) they are different. You will want to hack the wall to install in wall astro cable.. If you don't want to do in wall wiring, it is also fine, but less nice.

If extracting into the ceiling then no need ducting. It's just blowing hot air into the roof, and pulling in cool air from the surroundings.

Yes, you need to use the shower head that comes with the individual water heater. Original shower head in the bathroom just remove and seal the pipe lor (low cost solution) if not need to hack the wall to remove the pipe outlet and then plaster or tile it back.

solar power is not cost-effective, especially with no incentive from gov.
the initial cost is high

some ppl do the calculation claimed that you save $ in something like 5 years later...
5 years later, do you still think your solar-energy-battery worked as new?
it probably store less, waste fast. standard wear-and-tear rules apply.

by that time, the cost for maybe solar/wind power stuffs can be far more cheaper.

i'm using a type of exhaust where there's no ducting required. it sucks the hot & smelly air into the plaster ceiling area. the contractor made a couple of holes for the air to disperse to other areas (meaning not just above the bathroom ceiling.

my previous house, double storey, i installed an Airegard ceiling exhaust, with ducting & everything. maybe becos my window also open most of the time, the exhaust fan like not effective at all. i light up a ciggy and hold it really close to the exhaust fan...and still its not able to suck it out.

i didn't try that method at my new house tho..strict no smoking inside house

heater..if you use instant type water heater, it comes with shower rose. those hand held type. if you want cheap & yet good, my suggestion is storage tank type water heater. both Alpha & Joven have them (quite similar) but apparently the electricity consumption is quite high. with those type of water heater, all piping works are done before hand and concealed within walls. so no unsightly hose & pipes around (as in the case if you use instant type water heater) so you can use any shower rose or head you wish. but of course you will need new mixer & other stuffs.

astro uses F-type connector if not mistaken. different from traditional aerial type connector. B.yond is different again i think.

Don't think using the storage tank type of water heater will cause your electricity bill to shoot up. I am using one in my house and my elect bill is normal. biggrin.gif
Most important is to size the tank capacity correctly. i.e Not over size.
There is an adjustable temp control on the tank itself for you to set the right temperature.
Of course, you should switch off the heater when not in use. Self control brows.gif

what kinda holes it needs? just ask the contractor drill some holes on the roof tile?

for those storage tank type water heater ... what's the different between horizontal and vertical model?
consider buyin those instead of expensive solar heater

If you drill holes on the roof tiles, there will be leakage when it rains. biggrin.gif

As for the storage type water heater, there is no different between the horizontal and vertical model. This will depend on the space that you have. It can either be above the ceiling or below the ceiling depending on your bathroom location.
