sosos, just do this : wipe with your bare hand(no smell) the place you suspect has mold, put your hand near to your nose, SMELL IT.

No smell - > No mold. Bird sleeps peacefully.
Smell (the smell is like the smell of something you've kept for a very long time) - > Mold. Wipe with thinly damp cloth, reduce the RH & ventilate BH by installing exhast fans at selected Ventilation holes.

No need to call,pm,email, write me to fix this issue. FREE world. FREE to learn. Fee, if NOT to learn.

Beware of this Timer.

I used this for my heater fan in my BH, even set it with intervals, burnt and melted in my air-well socket WITHOUT TRIPPING Circuit Breaker !!!
( A few hundred birds came to play and irked off )

QUOTE(Frank Kerk @ Mar 29 2011, 09:07 PM)
Please help.
My standalone BH just completed Plank installation for about 2 weeks but fungus started to grow. The temperature and humidity of each floor of my BH are as follow : at 3:00PM 29/03/11
1st floor 27.3DegC and 99%rh
2nd floor 27.5DegC and 98%rh
3rd floor near roving area 28.2DegC and 88%rh

Data logger data as follow :
1st floor Period from 28/3 20:00 to 29/3 17:00
Temperature 27.5 ~ 28.0DegC
Humidity 93.5%rh ~ 95.0%rh

3rd floor near roving area in the nesting room
Period from 28/3 08:00 to 29/3 17:00
Temperatue 28.5 ~ 29.5DegC
Humidity 81.5%rh ~ 91.0%rh

Obviously the fungus is cause by High humidity.
How can the humidity builded up so high?
I did not use any humidifier in my BH.
My BH is a 22X80X3 storey building.
Each floor I am having total 32 pcs of 3" ventilation holes.
could it be the number of VH not enough?
Please enlighten me.

Same encounter 6 mths back. You may want to quickly do this :

Close all Ventilation holes. Suck air OUT via ventilation holes by installing box fans OR
better still if you have made provisions for KDK 8" or 10" ventilation holes (like in most toilets)
turns on every morning at 11am and stop at 7pm.

As for white spots already on planks, wipe it off with dry sponge (Pls wear mask while doing).
For extreme measure, add salt into plain water, dip the sponge in and squeeze to max dry and wipe.

My planks are already gone thru KD process.
They are not low grade plank. I paid RM2600/ton to get them.

I am opening another 4 VH/floor and ventilation fan will be installed to suck air out from the BH.

It wasn't heavy rain since after CNY. I washed the walls and roof and floor slate about a month ago and the floors are already dried up 1 week after washing.
We use standard grade 25 concrete for all the beams and floor slate.
I use 1 layer plaster for internal walls (rough) and 3 layers plastering for external walls (fine finishing).
A layer of rubber cement already applied to the top of roof slate.

Close ALL other V.holes when operating the air-sucking-out process. Turn on timing as advised.

All will be well.

A blessing in disguise ( who knows: find out when BH operate after a year)

Dear Walet Sifus,

Would appreciate it if I can get some advises and pointers on the business as I have zero knowledge. Recently I came across an opportunity to invest in a BH in my hometown (Perak); this is a scheme btw 4 childhood friends where one of us has 5 acres of agricultural land which is left dormant while another friend has just ventured into Birdnest farming and actively looking for more opportunities.

Hence a business proposal is in the making where the landowner will be a 50% stakeholder while the other 3 will need to contribute RM50k each as capital. A 30 years lease will be signed and RM125k will be used to build a 2.5 storied BH with all necessary fittings. The person with experience will run supervise the overall business.

I would like to know if it is a feasible deal and what are the anticipated pitfalls? Is RM125k a reasonable price? Besides the superstructure, what other fitting should we expect to put into the BH? I know that we will need to have timber structure on the roof, PA system, love portion? ammonia and an automated humidifier; kindly advise on other preliminary fittings.

Assuming that the land price is RM40k per acre, how would other sifus structure the agreement in order to create a win-win situation (we are small towners grown up together hence do not want any party disadvantaged)

OTOH is it a good idea to install solar cells on the roof for the tarrif feed-in from TNB i.e. to sell back electricity to TNB? (the land has electricity line and TNB meter)?

Thank you very much and appreciate the feedbacks

PLEASE DESTROY THE THOUGHT!!!

EVEN AMONGST RELATIVES THINGS ALSO TURNED VERY SOUR.

Advice : Buy land yrself and build. No $$$ ? Sit back and relax see show. Nothing to lose.

Brother, my BH is almost the same design as yours.
1.3 yrs. 90nests. Yours can do better.

i suggest:

do not partition too much first.
for the highest floor, open up a door size entrance on the further side.
close up the window entrance on the nearer side. door size entrance block bottom up 2 feet
to avoid floor reflection. width size not more than 3 feet.
