For your own safety and ease for birds to dive down, why don't consider cascading design at the void ie say 2nd floor void 20ft length, 1st floor void 17ft length etc. 3-4 ft protrusion at each floor narrowing at the ground like how the architect design for some shopping centres void area.

Accidents do happen and if happened, drop down from 3rd floor, land on 2nd so 11ft drop. Drop down from 2nd floor u land on 1st, 11ft drop. Bad but not as bad as dropping all the way 22-33ft down! Still have some hope of staying alive.

Just to share 2 cent hope can spare some lives.

If not scare of accidents, do a reverse cascading design but with sufficient parapet wall height and other safety precautions. May be a swimming pool at the bottom, just a big splash, sorry bad joke. biggrin.gif

Also think/check properly if rubber plantation. Personally have some reservation for rubber land.

Why so? Cos' of the formic acid used?
If the tappers are going for scrap then formic acid will be applied to each cup/bag.
If it is latex then formic acid is applied only at the processing plant.
My neighbor goes for latex.
Or it is something else and not formic acid.
The latex flow stimulant?

Don't think it got to do with the acid. More like the amount rotten fruits. IMO, sawit generates more insects than rubber. Also for rubber, obstruction to flying path the main issue. Got to think whether they can circulate around ur bh, more playing ground for them sort of. Anyway, just my guess.

To understand why, you may need to do Research on it but I don't have the time but beware of it as many failed BHs are at these areas. Something that I observe that on one side of the road, those BHs in palm oil trees have nests while the other roadside , all BHs failed and all planting rubber trees. So, you have rubber trees plantation and wish to build one in it, remember my saying " Beware the rubber trees" and clear a larger area in the plantation to be safer........ but why do it as rubber fetch a very good price and I rather tap my rubber than to invest into something you can't see.

No intention of cursing anyone's BH@ rubber land but my observation on the matter.
*
From own observation and little experience on the animal behaviors and swiftlets in particular do concur with your view point.

Wonder have you seen any of them built 5-10ft higher than the rubber trees, what are the results? Have not seen one so no comments. May be the rubber trees too dense most mosquitos congregate having feast/bf/lunch/dinner at the bottom hardly travel above? Sawit still got gap in btw for them to escape?

Probably need a biologist to do a proper research on this. Swiftlets are capable to travel >100km per day, guess your example above means a lot to the investors. Any biologists around? May be investors should spend 1-2% of the investment to engage the biologist on this matter, better than gave it to the con-cum-in-sultants. laugh.gif

A simple check on the type and number of insects flying above variety of tree tops means a lot I suppose.

Similar like fishes, those who do fresh water fishing will understand. Say a big lake, how to catch certain species? Some species prefer to stay near certain type of corner v certain type of vegetation compares to the others. So if you target tat specie, as a regular fisherman one look at the vegetation already know where to throw u bait.

Ok, from now on many con-cum-in-sultants will start claiming in their blogs they can advise v fees where to place ur bhs ... brows.gif

bro,
you can do yourself on bird test...
when we just started, abt 3 yrs ago
a good friend paid 'well known" consultant RM 1500 to do a bird test. excluding food and lodging
we were a bunch of fools, we thought "bird test" is like , mining gold and or looking for oil, where we need expert to do..
and the report was encouraging " land suitable for swiftlet farming"
he built a massive 50 x 160 , 4 storey..
after one year only 1 nest..
...

so bro, diy and evaluate your own bird test..

again to me, rubber plantation is a no no.. but it is your money.. who knows.

Wow, $1500 for a simple test?! Tat must be well known CONMAN!

Sam in Klang selling a testing set like $500. You can hire like $100 or $50 if not mistaken for a day.

Want cheaper, go to Jln Pasar, get a set of amp player wth dc supply. Either get a batt or pluck into car dc supply and wallah, you own a test machine less than $250. In the past, amp and player separated. Now amp come with player so easy just plug and play. Conman will obsolete one day but again as Uncle Ben said, 'there is a sucker born everyday'.

When I first started 3 yrs ago, 1st thing I found was this is a con industry. $5 stuff they can sell at $100 claiming gold will dropping from sky with this Muster Piece. Newbie no choice got to learn from books and some reliable courses like Pak Hen in order to verify truth and lies before entering. If not just learn the hard way, pay to the nose, pay all ur retirement funds and learn from some Conmen. Not saying Con-sultants all lying but u get slaughter lah when u believe birds will suck in like vacuum machine into ur bh with their kungfu or magic. Tat's the fact of swiftlet industry.

There is no watchdog or regulation oversee the Conmen. Any Hairy Crabi Dicki and Tommi can be Con-sultant. thumbup.gif

Did anyone read the China Press today. Someone told me that the paper reported  that 2 Malaysia Malay Datuk from Govt. Dept. was giving press conference to the chinese that Malaysian Red BN is real and safe for consumption and these red nest are not fake but the Datuks at the press conferance are Fake Datuks.

Is that what is reported in the paper. If's correct, " ini pun boleh! Dulu sarang palsu, sekarang, Datuk pun palsu!!!! "

We have fake sifus that charge thousand per course (but telling you do at your own risk, I no sifu), fake nests, fake Gomen officers, what next?

Hope not fake birds flying inside and outside our BHs during this 7th month. Having double vision or wat, need cuci mata. May be that fake news from China Press laugh.gif

The 10 to 15% yield is on the cost of the solar panels only (quoted RM750 per month for RM60k investment, if financing involved then yield is less) and does not include land/ building cost. Pls. note that the building cost should not be included as it is used to generate other income and the roof would be idle (not generating income) anyhow. Anyway the link : http://www.mbipv.net.my/; I was contemplating bout installing onto 1 of my landed property but if sign 30 year lease (as per the initial business plan) then better use on the BH. Even at a yield of 10% it is very attractive to me

Pesticide as in ammonia? Am abit worried bout other pest such as ants, snakes and musang (since the land is in a jungle/ oil palm estate) What about the 'love portion' to attract mating birds?

How about keeping the amp. cool? Fan required?

Better check properly the ROI. Solar panel alone does not work. It needs inverters to convert DC to AC. Tat's expensive part.

As far as I understand from a seminar, industry people talking about 15-20 yrs payback on paper. 1kW cheapest they were talking abt >RM15,000 using solar cell made in China. Again, all these only on paper. Would they (seller) be around 15yrs later? They didnt tell u whole truth about maintenance cost. PV inverter lifespan hear ~5yrs, luck more. PV like any other gadget can deteriorate when gets older, like young men when grow old walk also slow slow less productive. laugh.gif

Electricity cost generally lower in this country so payback longer. For a developed country, electricity bill higher so payback for PV shorter. Tat's the common logic. All the so call 'green tech' just for show some ministry are working lah. If they sincerely want to go green, should build MRT 25yrs ago or implement green buses like Korea and discourage people from driving Protong. laugh.gif

You bh using almost constant power supply. PV works if power fluctuate so extra sell back to TNB. Don't lah oversize with intention to get money from TNB. Latest heard from radio to make FIT attractive they comparing miserable return with FD. FD better lah if need money can straight withdraw. Cannot sell 2nd hand PV neither.

Latest heard some listed co by the name B** investing wat 1000MW solar power plant in Selangor. Just wondering whether they got con or crack some joke to stir market.

My bh using potable solar lights for experiment. On paper they telling AA battery can last easily 8 mths to 1 yr. Mine start 'kaputing' 3 mths onwards. 8mths probably referring to China dry and cool weather, not here hot any humid. Kena kon doh.gif

PV works if don't have TNB supply at ur bh. If got TNB, what spend unnecessary 60k? 60k better put into quality material for the swiftlet. Walet don't care PV or TNB anyway. laugh.gif

Swiftlet Industry Development Bill
We will soon have a separate law for each farm animal he he.

http://www.thesundaily.my/news/133157
http://www.dvs.gov.my/c/document_library/g...groupId=6661941
Still playing along the pre-framed issue...
He's implying our EBN has the stuff and we need to continue having the additive....what???
Worst still he's playing ...'your exports to us have them too and more ppm!!!!'
Wonder if he's helping or antagonising.

Response by SAM on the above..also published on at least 1 alternative site
http://mmail.com.my/content/83184-more-details-bill-needed
He's advocating putting swiftlet BACK into the CITES list to be again under the jurisdiction of Wildlife Dept.

SAM has always been critical of this industry, can consider as trouble maker equivalent to those that blast their amp as if own the whole town rclxub.gif

Just wonder why SAM never comment on the serious illegal logging currently happening at Hutan Simpan Belum at northern Perak. Feedback from town folks logging yard now filled with timbers after down fall of PR. Elephants, tigers, tapirs kena shoo left right centre. SAM remain MUM. whistling.gif

Ya, many folks trying to play monkey business with this industry for own benefit.

No matter how rotten price going to be, this country does not have much choice left if any.

Crude oil is near depletion, nett importer by 2020. We are running out of natural reserves to push up country GDP. Tat's why they include EBN in the ETP. Try advocating farm BHs, close all town BHs and see, they will dig their own political graves faster. How many BILLIONS need for investment and how many BILLIONS will go down drain with risk factor of 90% failure in the farm land? Go figure.

We will be doomed when we start import crude oil. Transportation, food, rental ... high inflation will kick in. Tat's expected before Vision 2020. No thanks to this legendary Old Horse Dr Ma lah! Burning away BLACK GOLD with his useless Potong in 1-Generation building white elephants! mad.gif vmad.gif

Hope he can live up to 100 yo to see how he destroy a nation with his Disillusion 2020! rclxub.gif

Waa, a lot of interesting happenings behind the scene.

We small flies only see small sky from bottom of well, don't know who's who in charge of the sky. Many flies go to China try to play gods, don't know who the heavenly gods there. Guess when heavenly gods cough, there rest running helter skelter, some catches colds, some dies.

Moral of stories, don't play play v heavenly gods i suppose.

Like now, everyone dump USD, buying gold claim gold will rise to USD2500 even USD5000! Oh, yet US still rank No.1 in gold reserve of the world and they can dump anytime. Who are the bankers, Federal Reserve, CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg ... who's the boss?

Notice the current bad news all attack red nests. They still leave some string attach, not completely tear down the bridge. Believe some big shots behind. My 0 cent. wink.gif
