FrostLance, since my post in reply to pandankia was inevitably removed bcause of his suspension. I wanted to add that the toyota engine in the lotus isnt as expensive as some claimed. yes upgrade aftermarket mods are, (so does any prestige marques) but the oil filter isnt rm280. (it shouldn't be & while i can understand lotus malaysia makes up a little then what you can get outside...a normal oil service is not rm5k & should not be. I cannot claim otherwise if the other supercar marques are so.

the elise S2 is a good choise. the new Lotus S (1zz fe) that replaces all the S1 lotus as the entry lotus (with rover engine). it can get a little confusing with all the lotus abbreviation n noughts.

O found a few S1 model about 100k, just wondering how much a used S2 would cost. I have a budget of about 150k. Wonder if the S2 would fall near those budget sad.gif
and yes, i want the toyota VVTI engine for better parts and maintainence
*

did an engine swap got the s1 earlier. Lotus was kind enuf to assist with the engine mounting positions. I still have the drawings somewhere....... Get the s1, use a b18c engine and u will have a rocket that will have the s2 for breakfast......

wo maddriver, ur post sounds attractive,
but i dont really get it.
what did u actually do to boost the perf?
enlighten me please~~~ normal eng.

so, frost, do roger me if uve found something unresistable.
i also wanna buy this car.
maybe if we buy 2 (u 1, me 1) can get cheaper.
biggrin.gif

i went to the proton R3 division and have a look at the cars there.
they are selling 2nd hand elise s1 (rover eng) with proper service history around rm105K.

im more attracted to elise s2 (with the chrome plating at the rear exhaust channel) (i think, they call it mach 2) but, it is around >RM200K.
so, for a weekend fun car, i havent reach that level la..

What i meant was that when doing the transplant, lotus actually helped with technical imput as to how we placed the b18c engine mountings to suit the elise chassis.....

yea, ive done a lot of research on this car, and i could say that its one of the best sport car to own in malaysia. Im kinda in love with it actually.

The reason for that :
1) The Price. Even for the new one, the price is just superb! Even tho its specs on paper isnt as impresive as say a GTR or a Ferrari, but ive seen on videos, even on top gear where on track, given the high power to weight ratios, could easily catch up to cars 10 times as expensive on track!

2)For a sport car, The Fuel Consumption is AMAZING. 30 miles per gallon on highway, and one of my frens that owns this, well he actually uses it as a daily car , well he said if ur careful enough and drive smart enough u could get in the high 30s MPG. An FQ400 Misubishi EVO is 15 MPG on highway. Insane.

3) Handling. As most car reviewers said, its ONE OF THE BEST HANDLING CAR in the world. nuff said.

4)Maintainence - Most people claim its very cheap given the toyota engine. Still need to do some research on this smile.gif

5)Good Reliability. Unlike most Continental cars. smile.gif

6) Road Tax - LOL. Its a 1.8L sports car. What more could i say. Only beaten by Mazda RX-8 tongue.gif (but FC-wise, Elise pwnd rx8 kaw kaw)

Is there such a facelift? S1to S2? I know my friend converted his S2 into Exige!! Very Nice. If there are such facelift from S1- S2 plz inform me!!! S1 can easily be bought about 100k! With about 50k Mileage!

S2-S2 not sure but S1 is excellent car to mod
You can drop a K20A in and get a killer car brows.gif
And as for maintenance,it is same as Toyota 1ZZ/2ZZ thumbup.gif
Aka it is not high at all
This is very excellent car,it is probably one of the fastest real world condition car

i went there like 3-4weeks ago
its yellow color.

they also offer me 2-eleven, haha, make fun of me.. damn!
other car i saw there is ALOT of evora (newly purchased, bring in by lotus malaysia to the malaysian buyer)
exige, exige 260 cup.

btw, they said that the rover engine is more RAW compared to toyota because its lotus who made the rover engine for rover company.
they sell their engineering.

so, simply said, lotus cars with rover engine is purely lotus!
idk if they said this because they wanna clear up their elise s1 edition

maddriver, frostlance and lilfreak, thx for info!

if you guys plan to do a lil visit for further research/study, please do update here beforehand k.
maybe we can go there together. smile.gif

p/s: have u guys have a peek at Tesla Roadster and Model S? biggrin.gif

the rover engine is 'lighter' but its 1.6L. engine mechanical parts were very cheap & easily available in UK. ONe of the better solution to weekend track day enthusiast in UK. (U Play & U pay - easy on your pocket)

The toyota engines are a lot more durable, newer in design (over the rover)
both the 1zz & 2zz > K series rover engines. do a bit of massage on the engine, they are livelier & just as fun. its just that most malaysian S2 elise dont get enough access to those juicy bits as easily as the overseas chaps with the exception to tengku djan's elise S2.

Evora? man they get the new toyota 2GR engines. (goggle them).

I know one reason Lotus chose Toyota engine is to pass US emission regulation to sell it there after the demise of Rover. Lotus Europa on the other hand uses GM engine.
